I absolutely *love* my matador soap bag. Coolest container ever. I use it at home all the time for my solid leave-in conditioner/curl cream bar. I haven’t seen a ton of people talk about this, but another great option is getting a small mesh garment bag that has super fine mesh in it. It works really well, and is often a better bag than soap-specific ones I’ve found since they are designed to go through a washing machine and tend to dry out very quickly. And can double as a loofah/scrubber in a pinch, haha

Thats a great idea, I have seen some people recommend those scrubbing gloves as a place to put the soap while it dries too

My girlfriend and me are planning to go on a one year trip around the world, so we've found out the best for us is Lush soap with their metal soap holder. The biggest reason is that we are able to get Lush soaps in almost all countries!

That’s great! Yes I’ve seen their stores all around but haven’t tried their soaps yet, any in particular you recommend?

I have a very very old plastic case where I put a eye glasses cleaning cloth + I have Lush metal case for shampoo and solid conditioner. From Lush I like soap called Karma, the ingredients are also insect repellent (and I like the smell). From Dr. Bronner's I like Tea Tree scent as this one is good for shaving - minimal skin irritation. I just cut few soaps I like into smaller pieces and stuff them into those 2 containers :)
@PackingLess3 жыл бұрын
I have tried the tea tree bronners too, recently I've been using their eucalyptus one because it has similar properties to tea tree and is another native australian tree that makes me nostalgic haha.

I travel frequently and carry a specialized soap bar. I purchased a great item from Amazon several years ago. Inovat 2 Pcs Plastic Soap Case Holder Container Box Home Outdoor Hiking Camping Travel. They work well and the price was affordable. I keep one in the shower and the other in my travel bag.
@PackingLess4 жыл бұрын
Just had a look, looks nice and solid. Do you let the soap dry before closing it? I cant see any drain holes
@anthonycbrown19524 жыл бұрын
@@PackingLess There are ridges at the bottom of each holder. I put the bar in the container right after the shower. The bar dries quickly and I pour off any water that may have collected under the ridges before snapping the enclosure shut.

Make a silny pouch that exactly fits the bronners bar open on one end with open end folded back 1 inch. Wet new bar insert and squeegee the air and water out and let fully dry for a couple days. Rinse outside of pouch clean. Use as roll on while showering but don’t let it get really wet. Step aside from the water and roll onto entire body and leave it outside the shower. Will stay dry inside pouch and wet end will dry very quickly. Throw it in a nylon mesh pouch slightly larger than the bar. Fold back more of the open end to expose as it goes. Like this one bar of Soap will last 6+ months of use.

wonder does a 1L dry bag works the same as the Matador Case. i have plans to travel for a year however cannot travel now due to covid. So far i never travel more than 3 weeks so usually just bring liquid soap, may i know if any one can share one soap bar can last how many months?
@PackingLess3 жыл бұрын
a regular sealed bag traps the moisture inside and makes the soap soft and soggy. This matador one has a special material that allows air in and out to dry but not water, so its quite impressive
@johnhuttenberger6278 Жыл бұрын
I would go matador. But I’ve traveled for 3+ months up to a year a few times. For those longer trips sometime the Timothy Ferris model works. Which is bring enough toiletries for the first few days and just buy regular bottles while ur there. If your moving around a lot though, u can pick up travel bottles along the way just like grocery stores here in any major cities around the world. Safe travels!!

They're a great option, although personally I prefer to stay away from hard case options because when the soap gets smaller or its empty its taking up space. Whereas the soft case options I showed here rollup to nothing.

I wonder why nobody has made a regular soap box with a rubber sealing yet. that would be the only soap box anyone would ever need, as there would be no leaks and there would be absolutely no need for matator and similar inconvenient inventions :D
@JAFrk3 жыл бұрын
I don't think you understand what the word inconvenient means. Your "idea" will literally slowly melt away at my soap bar unless it's fully dry (which is an inconvenience), and a plastic case is not size variable which will take up unused space unless the bar is somehow always the same size as the box. There is a reason why travel soap boxes are rarely featured on blogs talking about minimalist travel, because it's literally INCONVENIENT.
@os-qt1hc3 жыл бұрын
@@JAFrk well, I have the matador soap case and for me it really is inconvenient when I take a shower. I cannot use it as a soap bar holder (this is essential for me) and every time I want to put the soap back inside after taking a shower, it is a pain in the ass. I can never open it wide enough so that the soap does not leave its residue all around the opening. then it is all messy and I have to carefully clean it with a toilet paper because it is impossible to do so under running water. and only then I can put it aside. as per the regular soap box, I just close it and it is super easy to clean under running water and I can dry it with a towel. it is not as messy. and the size is not a problem, as I always take a full size soap bar on my travels so that it lasts as long as possible. when I pack my stuff I am counting with the soap's full size and I do not need the soap box to shrink in time as the soap does. I need the soap box to be convenient both when in my bag (I need it not to leak) and when taking a shower. not just when it is in my bag. so, from my experience to fit my needs, the only thing that a regular soap box misses is a proper sealing to stop it from leaking and it would be the best and most convenient soap box for my travels. I always travel only with one backpack, so I also try to save as much space as possible, but saved space is not as valuable when it causes other inconveniences.

Its not only about weight, its about convenience. If you have solid soap, you dont need to put it in a clear screening bag for security generally. And also its not going to have the possibility to spill or leak during transit.

It’s also to move away from plastics, reduce waste, and use sustainable materials. Most liquid forms of soaps come in plastic containers.

Solid soaps clean better than liquid body wash. With body wash your armpits start to smell straight out of the shower, and with solid soap my armpits stay odor free for 12+ hours; I use deodorant. My guess. The soap is stronger and has a better way of destroying bacterial cells.
