"you'll get confident, you'll get cocky" :D this is so spot on it's ridiculous. Started getting cocky 1 hour into casting my first BC and instantly lost a bait

once you learn, you will never want to use fixed spool reel again

not overly much use when you need to cast a 1.5gram mepp thou as a tool for medium and bigger lures its second to none but the fixed spool still has its place

Shimano FX reels are no doubt the best reels for spinning…super light & smooth and cheap ! not multipliers

I have cracked off heavy lures because of backlash and to light braid, when i was first started out and a couple of times since (12 years) not very funny when your £15 favourite super catcher lure goes flying off to the horizon but hilarious when your mate does it!! 65lb + braid will go along way to stopping this if you get an unexpected back lash and dig in and your spool stops spinning mid flight

Hi, love your video’s !! do you use the westin powershad rod for all kind of lures? Softbaits, swimbaits, jerkbaits? Is it to heavy for lures with a maximum weight of about 100 grams? I am looking for a “allround” rod for pike fishing of the bank!

I'd recommend 0.4 or 0.45mm braid on a setup like yours, really easy to use. Also 6' jerkbait rods are best avoided if you're new to baitcasters. Go with an 8' one, like you use, it's a lot easier.

Can you recommend a beginner kit? But not for heavy lures , let's say max 60-70 gr and a medium price. Thank you for the video , i want to switch to baitcast and it is really helpful.

It might be useful to do something on pitching under trees, etc. Some of the worst birds nests I've had have been caused by the lure just catching a twig or reed. Even a nanosecond of interruption to the flight of the lure can cause backlash. I've had other backlashes from similar slight touches to vegetation, twigs over or behind me! The worst was tipping the stonework of a bridge.Good tip about starting on mono. It took me three months of practice to become proficient--and three spools of Spiderwire braid. Sickening cost, but you have to keep on!Also good to mention keeping your eye on the target--a bit like using a shotgun. If you watch your thumb on the spool it's usually birdsnest time. You need to watch your lure fall towards the water and then apply the final pressure on the spool.Worth persevering, though, because as said elsewhere, once you've mastered it, fixed spool reels seem slow and primitive and less useful for covering water quickly.

Thank you for doing this videos. I have had baitcasters before and just wanted to throw them in the lake! Got a cheapy again ...watched this video last night. Loaded the reel with 40lb braid...went fishing today....total transformation!! You explained everything in an easy to understand way. Got 1 backlash when I clipped some reeds with my lure...carefully picked it out. Will now be looking to buy a better quality reel,as I really enjoyed using the baitcaster. Thanks mate 👍

Mate, that was spot on. I've had a baitcaster for about 18 months and it's still in its box! Going away this weekend and there's a lake with pike in close by so will be practicing. Thanks Well I have just been down to the canal at Horbury Bridge to use my baitcaster for the first time after watching this video. First cast I over spooled, birds nest and came home again. My thumb wasn't doing its job well enough. Think that's it put away for a year now!

I’ve been using an ABU ProMax reel on same make 6’6 rod for a month.. I’m in a position where I’ve pretty much got it.. but I still birds nest in some small way probably a couple of times every trip out.. usually can unpick it (30lb braid) but I’ve had big ones and had to cut the line off twice in the month.. but .. I tried going back to a fixed spool and it feels useless now for casting lures! .. so inaccurate and time consuming! I’ve got my brake on about 50%.. will keep going with the bait-caster as the advantage is worth it.. but wind the brake back on for now.. cheers👍

For the best performance use no spool tension with just a hair of side to side movement and adjust with your cast control on the side. This way you'll get the most distance, a better working drag, and reduced backlashes. The rest is thumb work. Tight lines out there!
@BUSHCRAPPING
@BUSHCRAPPING 5 жыл бұрын
thicker braid and more strands makes it LOT easier, i started on 4 strand 15lb braid quite a few birds nests, i switched to 50lb 16 strand and now i really dont get them unless my drag has bedded in too tight or i hit a bush or whatever, now and again you switch to a lighter lure and get one but they always come out. i dont even use tension knob at all anymore, just 25% magnetic drag

also have you thought about trying a BFS set up mate? like an UL baitcaster for trout and perch and chub? im tempted to get one when trout season starts, but i also want a heavier pike rod hahah.

That gives the beginner hope again. Had a birdnest a few weeks back on thinner braid as well. 3 times and the last time I had to cut the line of. Lost 3 big lures and was very demotivated. I like your style of fishing and bin using it as an example. Keep catching and keep filming.👌🏼 cheers.
