Never fished a baitcaster before. Just purchased my first and practicing in the backyard this morning. First cast: backlash 😂. After watching this it was relatively easy to remove. Thanks bro for your great content. You’ve taught this noob more than I could ever imagine in the past year. Tight lines! 🎣

If it's kind of bad, I tighten up the drag and reel a few times with my thumbs over the spool as tight as I can. I then pull. This usually undo the backlash by itself so I dont have to pick the lines. Works 80% of the time.

I just retired and bought my first baitcaster ever (a Kistler) and went with quality because I was expecting a learning curve and didn't want to wonder whether it was equipment. I did get some backlashes my first time out and couldn't figure out why because I had gone through the whole tuning procedure and was careful practicing feathering with my thumb on a calm day. I finally figured out that it was my release timing. I was releasing too early (it's a bit different than spinning and I was trying both side casting and overhead). I finally figured out that I was releasing just a bit too early, had too high of an arc and the lure was slowing at the top at the top of the arc for a fraction of a second while the reel continued wanting to spin out at the same speed. Lots to learn but man, can you get distance with a baitcaster when you do it right.

I am mostly a fly fisherman but I have used (inexpertly) a baitcasting reel a few times. What I really like about them is that it takes skill to use. More interesting than a spinning outfit. My perception is that a person can be really accurate with them.

Really great tip in here that a lot of people fail to mention - when you finally go to reel back in, hold the line TIGHT are you are reeling it back and slowly. Without that tension you are just going to be screwed all over again on your next cast. TIGHT LINES YALL.

Funny, I taught myself all of this. Great video though. Have you tried KVD line conditioner? I thought it was gimicky, but it actually works well. I always use a braid backer to a fluoro leader (fg knot), and I find that picking out those knot stoppers is easier with braid. Again, great video. Thanks. Also, just wanted to add that your intro is one of the best on KZbin. So many are just cheesy and too long!

Great video man very intuitive an educational! I've been a fineness angler sense I could start fishing. But here recently I've got my feet wet so to speak with bass fishing. I've caught plenty of decent bass on my spin cast rod. But I find myself very interested in the hot an heavy action that goes down when a bass thumps a bass jig or Texas rig on a bait caster! Needless to say I'm a beginner bass Angler. An the reel is beyond my compression it seems like or nobody i talk to about them is truly educated on a bait caster or how they work?? Would you do a review an explanation of a good budget bait caster so I can finally catch bass on a regular

What fluorocarbon line do you prefer to use? The few that I’ve tried have a lot of memory it seems like. Ive mostly used braid on my baitcasters but I definitely need to switch it up
@TylersReelFishing
@TylersReelFishing Жыл бұрын
bit.ly/3JXWxfj I’m in love with this line, especially for the price. Stretching out the line will help a ton with memory. Tie it to a tree and walk backwards with your thumb on the spool and then once you get two casts lengths out, start to pull and get the memory out. Doing that every few weeks helps

I had a backlash once (Like learning how to use a bait caster and doing so well then getting a backlash while practicing the 2nd day was learning and i made a bad cast and the lure hit the driveway and it backlashed) The backlash was probably about halfway into the spool and it was BAD! I ended up having to cut through probably 80 feet of line with a knife on the spool to get it out lol. haven't touched a a bait caster since. I should probably add that the line was braid and there was KNOTS INSIDE the line.

I watched the other video and was wondering if you have fished round reels and the difference casting them. I fish abu , penn, and 1 millionaire. They all have the spool tension knob but no brake. My son just got me a abu bass rod reel combo for father's day. Haven't strung it up yet, I was thinking 10-12lb fluoro?

12 or 15lb would be best for him. I’m not sure what you mean by “round reels” but I use baitcasting and spinning. I’ve got lots of videos to help you out!

@@texasroofer8650 It's similar. I have a shimano calcutta 151 that I use for reds and snook and its probably a bit easier to remove a birdnest tbh.

@@texasroofer8650 no problem. Yeah I fish round baitcasters exclusively in saltwater. I need a good winch to get fish out of the mangroves and low pros feel too small since I have bigger hands. Tightlines!

Here's a tip for unraveling nasty backlashes that you can't seem to fix: next time you're at the dentist, ask the dental hygienist if he or she will give you an old dental pick. File the ends smooth and use it to find and gently extract the line that is looped over your casting line on the spool, then grasp it and gently pull it out (you may have multiple snags, so keep at it)!

How often do you change the line out?
@TylersReelFishing
@TylersReelFishing Жыл бұрын
Depending on use, at least every 6 months. Braid can last a year or more, but for fluoro, I try to replace the line on the reels I use a ton every 4-6 months

I can remove backlashes with more skill than the skill it takes to cast. I use a crochet hook when it gets bad. But here's a tricky tip; First, loosen your drag almost entirely; find where the line jams (usually it's a loop that wants to kink a loop around the standing line) and you pull that loop forward (not the main line) as you roll the spool backward (direction of normal reeling) about 1 to 3 full rotations, then pull the main line toward the guides. It will free it up until the next kinked loop. Repeat the process. Don't pull tight! It kinks and tightens the nest. Key is, get the loop pulled from forward/under the spool, then pull by the main line. If you are using 10 lb braid, get out a crochet hook and pray to the knot angels for help.

I’m definitely the rough guy pulling on the line 😂 But then I found out cutting one of the tangled lines allows me to just pull it out while the rest of the line goes back to normal. Probably not a good idea but I’m still learning 😂

My Seagar invizX unspools itself and adds backlash as I'm removing it! It's replacing it as I'm getting rid of it! Loops that weren't even there, bubble up and in. How do I know if it's because of old line?? It has no expiration date on it. I guess that's next. But how do I know if the spool is too old? Could that explain the auto-backlash?

@@TylersReelFishing You're right. :/ I finally set "ON" all 4 brakes and dialed it up to 6--max'd out. I'll be darned, the Invizx started behaving--no more springy uncoiling. Yay! Dropped 6 down to 3, still bombing. I'm surpised a 1/2oz jig w/Bandito Bug needed that much braking. I do keep the brakes well-oiled, though. Happy casting!

@TylersReelFishing
@TylersReelFishing Жыл бұрын
Because I don’t like that big of a connection knot going through my guides. It’s just one more potential thing that could break on a hookset. With spinning combos I will always go braid to Fluorocarbon because the knot is not as thick, but baitcasters, I either go straight, braid or straight flouro
