I use my crochet hook for all my cast ons now, but ive been using the one you use in the provisional cast on, only diff being is instead of going between the needle & hook (which is how i did do it until i saw another way) now i go around both. Is there a reason i shouldn't be using this/provisional cast on as my main cast on for most things? Im an advanced crocheter but still a beginner knitter! Also, love ur vids, you explain things & show what ur doing very clearly, so a def sub from me & now im off to binge watch more of ur videos 😁

If you like how that looks and feels for the edge of your project, then by all means keep doing it! I have never paid much attention to how stretchy the provisional cast on is (or isn’t?) so make sure you pay attention to that if stretch of the edge of your project is important. My only other concern is just making sure that your beginning and ending stitches are secure and cannot come unraveled. Thank you so much for watching my videos, it is deeply appreciated!

Could the provisional cast on style be used for Tunisian crochet in lieu of chaining and picking up a loop in the back bump? Instead of a starting chain, maybe do a slip knot and then that style? I realize you are technically using the back bump as the TSS loop, but isn’t the effect essentially the same? Just wondering your thoughts.

It could I suppose - the only problem I see with that is the fact that you will then have to pull out the beginning and ending chains of the provisional cast on and try to weave them in as nicely as possible. Are you asking out of curiosity, or are you having difficultly with the 3rd loop anchor point for the first forward pass in Tunisian?

@@iHeartYarn No, but I will frequently do a knit cast on to accomplish the first 2 steps with one step (I had seen this recommendation on another site). The only issue i have is that the long tail cast on creates a different sort of finished edge that looks to me a little heavier. I was just thinking as I watched this that if you used a slip knot to start the “provisional” cast on, instead of the chains, could it work like picking up a loop in the back bump of a chain, have the same look and all, but accomplish the 2 steps in one. Does that make sense?
