After a few small catfish we got the catch we were looking for, a nice alligator gar. Insanity ensued as we got the lines tangled and had a step bank to pull the fish up

Nice catch yall! Im finally gettin out there to the trinity and i found a way to catch bait its making a world of difference in how many runs i get but no gar yet imma keep at it until i get one tho

Keep at it! Catching bait is one of the main issues for many. In a pinch I’ve seen guys use chicken from the grocery store. Once the weather gets cooler and the water temps drop the gar will go mostly dormant till next spring.

I use my carp bait. Bread crumbs, sweet corn and jello.
