I like your drop shot setup but, the very best way to save your line is to throw on another swivel on the bottom and use a rubber band to attach the sinker. I learned this with bigger setups for ling cod in Humboldt Bay fishing from the jetty. This saves a ton of time not having to re-tie the leader whenever you lose a sinker.

It can depend on what the fish are after. Sometimes just the natural current in the body of water is enuough movment. Sometimes you'll need to reel it along slowly and give it a pop once in a while. Water tempature can dictate how much action to give the presentation too. Cold water = slow movement Warmer water = More movement. There is no exact science to it. So definatley try both ways.
