TeaDragon i just got bit by a tarnatula so i came here to figure out how to catch it. i almost threw me 3ds when I SAW the spider, and nearly cried when it bit me... (I have arachnophobia so im scared of spiders, scorpions etc...)

TeaDragon I was seven the first time I saw it and have always had arachnophobia and even though its not a spider it looked like one and I was on the verge of tears (such a smol bean)! To make matters worse it happened three times that night and then again with the scorpion. Long story short, Wild World completely traumatized me that night and I'm almost fifteen now and still afraid. Nope, I will not try and catch them (goodbye golden net) I'all just catch all the other bugs.

It is a commonly mis-stated fact about walking around with your net out. It does not aggravate either the tarantula or the scorpion. The only thing that makes the tarantula and scorpion halt their random walking is if you simply get too close to it while walking. They will stop, turn to you, and wait for you to stop walking. If you keep walking, they will attack. If you stop walking, they'll finish their hissing animation and go back to walking around. Walking around with the net out is the best idea. Once you see a tarantula or scorpion, go into creep mode and slowly stalk them. As you get closer, they'll turn and threaten you, but if you stop moving, they'll calm down and you can take a few steps closer to swing your net and catch them easily.

Colonel Dookie I noticed that actually. The other day I had my net out and didn't hear the sound and I almost ran into the tarantula and it didn't attack it kept walking. When I saw it and did hear the noise I ran for the freaking hills (a.k.a the nearest building) cuz I have arachnophobia and even though they aren't technically spiders they look very alike and just NO!

Here’s what happened to me: Completely lucked out and found a scorpion near the river, but I took my net out and walked right up to it and swung my net, caught it btw. THEN after donating the scorpion I was walking back to my house and found the tarantula. I did the same strat and it worked again. And the funniest thing was that the game (basically) said that today was my unlucky day 😂

I had no idea the tarantulas were rare. I just started playing on the 17th and saw one that same night on a cliff when I was on the beach. It of course disappeared. I saw another one last night and started sneaking from far away and it turned right toward me but didn’t move and I got it. Since I couldn’t afford new horizons and a switch, I decided to get new leaf for my 3ds. I’d never played animal crossing before but wanted to see what all the hype was about and I love it! About 3 months into the game (last night) I had my first encounter with a tarantula. I didn’t know they existed in the game and was walking around holding my net to catch moths so it went strait into attack mode. I’m 21, but a huge arachnophobe, I started genuinely screaming while trying to run away from it only for it to chase me! 😂 Scariest moment of my life 😂😭

hah, and I was going to ask if you had already made a how-to for those elusive (and extremely irritating) bugs... I remember the first time I found a tarantula I freaked out so much that I spent the whole night trying to catch one (since the first one just disappeared (like in 0:56) and I was so, so mad >.< and very nervous, I thought the 'sting/bite' animation would make me faint in real life XD I'd just ask you (since you're a lot more experienced) why you would first approach them without the bug net. I do it with the net in my hands and I just start 'creeping' towards it. Most of the time they're turn around at you, freeze in a 'I'M GOING TO MURDER YOU' pose and just wait until you attack... It's easy to catch them this way because they won't move anymore :D

I just find if you'd moving too quickly with your net out you're more likely to be attacked. You're definitely going about it the right way though, I usually find the best time to catch them is after they freeze and hiss at you :P

Ok, I know this is WAY late, but as I was hunting for the elusive scorpion and tarantula I got so disheartened watching them crawl off cliffs or into the river. I'd gotten impatient with one tarantula in particular and decided I'd inch toward him AS SLOWLY AS POSSIBLE (like when you're trying to catch a golden stag. There's different levels of sneaking with the net and it seems the SLOWEST didn't initiate anger from the bug) and I caught it first try. The tarantula never stopped staring at me to turn and run off the cliff. I saved and less than 2 minutes later stumbled upon a scorpion and gave the method a shot and caught it the same exact way. Don't know if my character had good luck or not, but it seems I didn't actually have to stop approaching when they look at me. Only go as slow as humanly possible.

2018, here's a funny story. Back in 2016, me and my mom we're playing animal crossing. We had found a scorpion and a tarantula that night. We tried and tried to get the tarantula, but we keep restarting back to our house which is where you would go back too if the spider bit you. Now, we STILL haven't caught the spider but we have caught the scorpion.

Cutting down all your trees helps as well, as you'll be able to see these two eight legged critters much better. Unless they come out of a patch of flowers, they won't be able to surprise you. The downside to this trick however is that you would have to re-plant a nlot of tree saplings. And only one is available per day at Leif's (please correct me if I spelled that wrong). As far as fruit trees go, I highly advise putting a few of each fruit types in storage.

I'm positive XD They do disappear after a little while though (or "kill" themselves) so if they're already in the process of disappearing or going to a cliff or water they won't turn and charge at you :P

Well that's all they do. I run past them and I see them for a split second and then commit sepaku on a tree or a rock and fall to their doom in water. The first encounter was a tarantula and I panicked. I was like what do I do, he is near people, where is my net? I say I was 10 blocks (in game blocks) away from it then it fell it water cause I did nothing. I could have caught it if I wasn't so scared. Now the three tarantula encounters were near my house and every time I was too slow and I didn't have my net...doesn't help my place has alot of trees cause I wanna get Jacob's Ladders. And all they do is walk, hit a tree or a rock and die
