How to Catch, Transport, and Store Skipjack Herring

Fishing tips for the ultimate bait for big Catfish!
In this video I show you the easiest way to catch, transport, and store the best Catfish bait in the south. Skipjack Herring! I start off using two inline Marabou jigs. They are normally used for Crappie however Skipjack love them when they are reeled in a certain way. Once I catch a Skipjack I show how to brine freeze them so you can transport the most fresh bait possible. Once I am home I show the best way to store them for the long term.

We don't have Skipjack in Texas but I do that with Gizzard Shad and Bluegill. The only difference is that I dry them as good as I can and try not to let them touch when vacuum sealing them. I've kept them for months in the freezer and they don't get soft when they thaw out. I've done that with Carp chunks and it works pretty good on that too. I try and vacuum pack them the same day they are caught but that's not always possible.

Why salt Billy?

Salt makes the ice-water colder by reducing the freezing point of ice. It also melts the ice. Its a weird process that works good to insta-freeze the skipjacks.
