A quick "how to" video for centering a blade on a traditional slipjoint pocketknife. Here, I demonstrate using a vintage Camillus TL-19 with a VERY off-center blade.

Really found that interesting. I knew how to fix the blade play but wasn't aware hoe to fix centering. Thanks for sharing that trick.

My Victorinox Ranger 53 and me are saying thank U so much! The blade was nearly touching the liners, now it's close to perfect. Greetings from Germany.

This helps a lot. I have a boker that has an identical mechanism. Right now the only way to get the auxiliary blade out is to pry it up with a tool and I’m pretty sure it’s the alignment of the main blade. Probably gonna be stubborn to make it work but worth a shot

I tried looking around the workshop for one, and came up empty! This was about as good as I could manage at the moment, but you're totally right!

@@practicalknifereviews1600 it worked wonders! the knife went off center during reassembly. after I removed the wire stripper/flat head tool. that main blade has great walk n talk

Great job. I've done the stick the blade in a vise trick. Wouldn't reccomend that technique unless you really know about bending steel. One of my former jobs was bending metal tubes, stainless steel & aluminum.

Always was SUPER afraid of doing that! Tempted to try a few times, but never actually bold enough to do it. xD

Great video, thanks. I have a question. I have a custom slip joint with wood bolsters and ivory scales. I heard your warning about not trying this method on knives with natural materials as there is a risk of them cracking/breaking. Any other recommendation on centering the blade on slipjoints with those type of scales? Thanks.

Some knife blades are off centre because the manufacturer uses the same blade for knives with a second small blade that fits in the other side.

Nice and helpfull video. Tank you !!! But what exactly happens in the knife while doing your method ? are you bending the blade, the liners or is it a real centering by changing the tension between the liners ?
@harpomarx77773 жыл бұрын
" ... and the centering is still good" he says as his finger and thumb push the blade over to the center. Not convinced. Next time use a "C" Clamp and bend the blade on the edge of a table, varying the pressure to coax the blade.

Anyone try this. I have a bone case and it’s touching the liner. I know says no bone but it’s annoying and marking the blade
@remixato Жыл бұрын
I think it is more bending than real centering or do i am wrong ? Such a folding knife with fixed rivets has liners and the tools. When the liners or the tools Not have a 100% symetrical axis then happens that it comes to off centering. So i think when you do this technics or an other technic the only think Happens is that you Are bending the tool or the liner

i would use indirect tapping, like put a piece of wood where i want to hit and tap the wood not the blade
@grahamparr39333 жыл бұрын
So basically you bend the blade, vice would be easier

You got the right idea, but not the right tools...you need a copper or lead block...the blow is done with a cutler hammer with a narrow fin..under a piece of thick leather...one or two blows ur done....what you are doing will not work...it needs a hard resist and a sharp cutting blow or two....done!!
