Everytime I drop the pan on any of my vehicles to change the trans filter I always first buy a $10.00 fluid transfer pump from Walmart. Shove one hose down the tip stick tube and the other hose into an empty gallon jug of whatever I can find and pump as much out as I can. Makes dropping the pan a whole lot less messy and also easier to remove the pan without it bending from 5 quarts or so of trans fluid moving around.

The transmission service whisperer, I liked the pro tip of putting a bolt back on the side to avoid the pan from dropping while working on the back bolts👍🏽 I now appreciate Honda putting a drain plug on their transmissions.

thank you for the video,very helpful I have a question regarding the vehicle I have a leak from the transmission pan and you said that the gasket is reusable so in my case do I just torque the pan harder or do I have to change the gasket?

You should be able to just evenly snug the bolts up like we did in the video. If it is leaking and doesn't want to stop you may need a new gasket. Hope this helps you out.

I did my 14 expedition without even jacking it up. New trans pan with drain Added dipstick kit Changed trans filter Flushed all trans fluid Flushed all power steering Drained and replaced trans case fluid Flushed cooling system Flushed all brake fluid Changed diff fluids Changed serpentine belt Never even lifted it up.. slid under, 20in factory rims and factory suspension.

What type of fluid you are using?. Ford recommend Motorcraft Mercon SP.

Do I have to replace the filter every time I replace the trans fluid? In my case the reason I will put new fluid in, it's cause gasket leaks.

The transmission filter should be changed along with the transmission fluid. The filter helps to filter out any debris floating around in the transmission fluid. The small particles of metal are what can cause a transmission to not shift properly. Hope this helps you out.

It was just bearing grease we purchased from the local parts store. It was more than likely the Timken brand. Hope this helps you out.

I just bought a 2012 Expedition King Ranch with 39k miles. When should I drain the fluid and filter and should I make a drain plug?

Mileage wise you're all set, but the truck is 10 years old. I would replace the filter with a new one and top off the transmission fluid. The truck has to be level when doing this.

What kind of grease did you apply to the gasket? It looked red. Is that a RTV sealant or actual grease or petroleum jelly? The Haynes manual Chapter 7 Part B - Gasket leaks - states: "If sealant instead of gasket material has been used to form a seal between the pan and the transmission housing, it may be the wrong sealant."

All that was is a little wheel bearing grease it plays no roll in sealing the pan. We use it to visually make sure that all of the bolts on the transmission pan are tight because it oozes out of the sides. You can reuse the factory gasket if it is in good shape.

Can you drain through fluid through dipstick hole using a suction gun?

You may be able to use this method, but the proper method is the one that is shown.

Not sure about reusing a gasket ? Would be pretty annoying to have to redo the whole thing. Because the gasket is leaking .. worse still it runs low and damaged the tranny! I like to do it all myself at least you know it’s actually been done

I've rebuilt approximately 2,000 6R80 transmissions at the largest transmission excange with the original "Reusable pan gasket" never had any issues with the gasket itself

It says on the Ford pan the gasket is reusable. It is not a cheap, weak gasket. It is like metal with a rubber attached around the edge.

Filter and fluid is like 450 dude. Full flush is 600. You can do this for 80 bucks.

The lack of a drain plug on the transmission pan is not just a Ford thing very few vehicles have a drain plug on the transmission to let the fluid out. Now most of the transmissions in vehicles are sealed so you need to have a machine pump the old fluid out and cycle new transmission fluid back into the transmission. It frustrating.

@@HomeOwnerRepair Yikes. My 2011 Expy has abt 165k and just today I noticed a transmission pan leak. So I guess it's time to open that up. Autozone gave me two choices for the filter: F-307 (long neck) and F-323 (short neck). My tranny is a 6R80. Any thoughts on this?
