Good lord that was more of an ordeal then I thought it would be (working on a 99 Monte Carlo). Easily the most complicated battery I have ever removed. You saved me and my girl a decent amount of money and gave me some needed mechanical knowledge (of which I have very little). Thank you Erik. Great video man.

It's in the top 5 for me for sure! Ive been a mechanic for a while though. I think batteries, wheels, wiper blades, oil change should never be hard. This whole right to repair thing is getting out of hand. This was a taste of some of the things they do.

I have taken on some fairly difficult DIY automotive tasks in the past. The Lumina battery is the far and away the hardest battery to get to of anything I've ever worked on! I'm guessing most shops won't do the free install with battery purchase ;-)

the leaking oil onto the hot exhaust are a manufacture defect at least for the 1998 i have, if you take it to a chevy dealer they will fix it for free, incase any one has that problem. your video helped me 10x+ more then the chilton i bought.

My grandfather had a 95 Lumina. He had a habit of sometimes leaving the interior light on. I ended up doing this job 3 times. Just makes you want to shoot an engineer. I mean, if they were hurting for space, why didn't they move it to the trunk instead.

@@TheCraftyTech Thanks from Chevy girl/ truth seeker! I had a 1993 chevy 1500 silverado manual v6 4.3 liter engine pick up. Bought it in 98. It got totaled about 2 weeks ago after I put over a grand into it. Sure do miss my truck. This car was given to me, so can't complain. Good thing my brother in law is a mechanic. It runs good so far. Has electrical issues. Owner disabled the doors automatic locking system. Need to get that fixed.

First time servicing my car, I agree with everyone, the engineer who designed this car must have been fired for such a ludicrous design. I just pulled it out, don't understand why and how the engineers fitted most of these batteries like this

This car has some of the worst engineering as far as the battery goes that I have ever seen (2000 Lumina). And not just as far as replacement, trying to squeeze the cable clamps in there when jumping is a huge pain in the ass. Who's idea was this? Just another thing people had to come into the dealership to replace. Seems like a grimy scheme to make more money. Kind of like Apple with their near impossible to repair devices.
@JTOwens895 жыл бұрын
What year is your Lumina? My '98 has an accessible positive terminal separate from the battery.
@MFRiley5 жыл бұрын
@@JTOwens89 2000 I believe. The side post terminals have like an inch of clearance, and there's a hose that has to be pulled out of the way. I always feel like I'm going to mess something up when I jump her car. You just have to jam the cables down in there, and you can barely get the clamps on. It was a terrible design. Her mom actually has a 98 Lumina, and yeah, much easier to get to the battery. Not sure what happened with the 2000, guess they tried something new, wasn't a great idea.

Tell me about it. I used to own a Samsung galaxy S5. You could take apart the battery in two seconds, just remove the cover and pop off the battery. My stupid iPhone 6s battery is like glued into my phone. I had to buy a kit to pop up the screen, break the seem. Then also had to unscrew the connection. Then pry it off. In the videos people takeoff the entire screen, but I kept my 90°. But I understand your point, just like iPhones, these were designed to be throwaway cars.
@TheCraftyTech4 жыл бұрын
On iphone 5 they had a thing you pull to release all the glue. On the iphone 5s they snipped off the tip you grab and used the same glue. Then you had to destroy the battery to get it out. Dumb assholes lol
@an2niotransitproductions8134 жыл бұрын
The Crafty Tech Yeah, I drained it just in case I punctured it. Never actually put back any glue though, surprisingly is holding up fine. But anyway, how is the Lumina doing now?
