How to Change and Replace the Water and Ice Filter in KitchenAid Refrigerator!

This is a how to tutorial to replace and change the water and ice filter that is located in-grille with a push button on KitchenAid refrigerator. This is also how to remove a push button filter if it is stuck or stuck from the cap not being replaced on the filter. You can remove the grille and use pliers to release the water filter from being stuck if your push button is not ejecting it. This is a replacement of the old water and ice filter with an upgraded Every Drop brand filtration filter. The refrigerator in my video is a Model 2555A. This requires the size 3 Every drop refrigerator and ice filter. This universal upgraded filter also works for other brands like Maytag, Kenmore, Whirlpool, Amana, and Jennair etc. You can check online using your model number that is located inside the refrigerator on sticker to see what filter you require. The every drop filters are sold at local hardware stores and online.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. When I pushed in the new filter for the very first replacement for my freaking $9000 KitchenAid side-by-side the cap (the one that's missing from yours) popped off, which disables the button for future filter replacements and I can't get it back on. What a POS. Now I know I can replace filters by taking off the grill; won't have to have that button working to switch out the filters. Bless you for posting this and saving me the cost of a service call.

Thank you so very much! My problem was that I had to press very hard to get my push button to pop out. I used a flashlight to look into the “tunnel” into which the new filter would slide to figure out the proper positioning of the new filter so that the projections on its end aligned correctly. I have the detachable end cap, which is missing on yours. I saw no arrows anywhere to help me with alignment. I did not unplug my KitchenAid fridge, but I did turn off the ice maker control only because it was easy to do and clearly marked. I am a fairly strong and fit 75-year-old grandma, but I had to lie down on my kitchen floor with my feet pressing against the base cabinets directly opposite the refrigerator in order to get the strength needed to push that new filter in its slot! In addition to the clearly heard push button popping out, I heard a very brief sound that resembled gas escaping. Hope this helps others.

Thank you for the video. Did the black eject button pop out when you installed the filter...I did not hear the click or the water pressure running?? I pushed the filter as far in as possible but, the black eject button did not click/pop out. Is it still safe to use the water?

Tip: video should show pushing in the gray (in my case black ) handle to the left inward. My filter was still stuck.. So, open both fridge doors and while pushing in the gray knob, use a long slender screwdriver and place it behind the small front lip of the stuck filter forward. lt should then pop out.

When the filter is successfully installed, it 'clicks' and then 2-3 seconds of loud gushing water is heard. We didn't hear this because she didn't successfully replace it. Look for other videos for an example of the sound. Without a cap, a tool of some kind is still needed to jam it in with force because a hand doesn't have enough strength. I play drums and so I hammer it in with a drumstick, but even with that it is challenging.

I found this random gray plastic thing laying around our kitchen we bought our house. I saved it for a few months at least, but may have thrown it out. Now, I'm pretty sure it was the cap from the filter.
