In this tutorial video I'll show you how to change colors in crochet to create stripes in your work.
Hi I'm Donna Wolfe from Naztazia. Changing colors in crochet is easy with a couple of tips and tricks for doing so. In this video I'll show you how to change colors every row by carrying the yarn as you go. And I'll show how to change colors every two rows or more by carrying the yarn along the side of the work. For my sample I'm using 100% worsted weight yarn and a size H 5 mm crochet hook.

Thank you for showing how to do this!! I am working on a blanket using two colors, I have been changing colors the "old fashioned" way and have a ton of tails to go back and hide. I was going to just do a fringe on the ends and use the end pieces in the fringe, but I found out that the person I'm making it for doesn't want fringes on it at all. I am half finished with the blanket but I'm definitely going to finish it using this method! You saved me so much work!! ❤️❤️ I appreciate your videos. I'm a new sub!

I basically exaggerate my stitches. I pull up loops higher than normal, when I do yarn overs I pull the loop a bit farther through existing loops than normal, etc. Plus going slower helps too.

For smal project it us ideal, but if you have a large project e.g scarf of blanket it will take a lot of yarn.

For the 1st example, that is a nice concept. Love it! However, doesn't that use extra yarn?
@naztazia

It uses a little bit more, but you are carrying only a single strand along. To change colors every single crochet, your other option is to start a new strand of yarn at the beginning of every row, which accounts for at least a 5 inch tail end, then another 5 inch tail end at the end of the row. Then you have to weave both of those in. If you are making a scarf that is 12 inches in width, you are only using 2 inches more of yarn every row, and not having to tie and knot and weave in 2 strands on every row. Seems like a better option to me!

I'm frm india. Which yarn is best. And needle brand . Kindly refer. I'm a beginner. You r my tutor
@naztazia
@naztazia 5 ай бұрын
You have beautiful yarn in India! Here in America, we have different yarn than you do, so I'm not sure our brands would be the same. I generally recommend starting with a medium worsted weight yarn, sometimes it has a [4] on the label. It's not too thick but not too thin either. I find 100% acrylic yarn is easy to work with, however, in your area maybe 100% cotton is more readily available. For crochet hooks, they generally come in different sizes based upon millimeters. I generally suggest with a medium yarn to use an H 5 mm crochet hook. It doesn't matter what the hook is made from, plastic, wood, bamboo, aluminum. Whatever is available is fine.

I tried this method, but unfortunately it caused the dimensions of the rows to be out. The blanket was fatter on the ends as it had more wool at each turn. Does this make sense? If anyone can help that'd be great. Thanks. 🇦🇺

does this method work with moss stitches? feels like you can see the second yarn in the stitches 😅
@naztazia
@naztazia 19 сағат бұрын
Carrying the yarn can show through if the colors are very contrasting or as you stated there are chain 1s in between the stitches. It can work with the moss stitch if the colors blend together, like a light pink and a medium pink. Plus using a smaller crochet hook makes stitches smaller and then makes the gaps less noticeable for the other color to show through.

So basically at the end of every row we don't finish it and then we add our new color?
@naztazia
@naztazia 8 ай бұрын
Right, don't finish the last stitch fully, then add the new color with the last pull through.
