Very good and detailed tutorial. If I may ask, how does it bleed off air if the entire cooling system is fully closed? Some mechanics let the radiator cap open while bleeding the air out. What's the correct way to do it?

it will produce the same effect even if the radiator cap is closed since the air will find a way to get to the coolant reservoir and out to the environment:)

Crisanto De Luna Coolant lang po na 50/50 pre-mixed. Nasisira po kase yung ratio ng concentrated coolant and distilled water kapag dinanagdagan ng distilled water. According to the owners manual, ok yun kung emegency and mataas na yung temperature sa dashboard:)

I bought a new Wigo TRD S today and a few kilometres from the dealer, when I drove on badly surfaced roads, there is a rattling noise from the steering column/dashboard area. I wonder if you would know what this is please? It sounds like plastic knocking on something, not metal.

Martin Henneberry Congratulations on your new Wigo! Re rattling noise that you heard from the steering column/dashboard, my 2017 unit has a USB cable inside the glove box. I don't know if the 2020 model has the same thing. If it does, it's possible that the noise came from there:) Also, did you attach the new key to a plastic key chain? A key chain can also be the culprit.

Hi... My avanza 2014 had a coolant flush 2 weeks ago. Now i notice that it keeps on losing coolant in the radiator about 5ml from time to time when i check the radiator. It loses that amount of coolant even i dont use the car. Any idea about this?

hi. some coolant would evaporate due to high temperature (especially this time of the year) and that's normal. also, the evaporation rate would increase when the engine is cold:) if it's a 2014 unit, you may want to check the radiator hoses, caps, and even the actual radiator for leaks (replace them if you have the budget) also, check if you put the right type of coolant as recommended in the avanza's owners manual. you may likewise consider replacing the old thermostat:) i think a 5ml drop is not really alarming since you just changed the coolant two weeks ago:)

Hi again Allan. I went to Toyota and got two of them to drive the car around, but on rough roads at different speeds. We didn't find much rough road but aimed at drains and any uneven stuff on the road. It didn't make any of the noises I experienced yesterday, so now I'm scratching my head!!! This morning when I left home it made the same noises in the dashboard as yesterday, but when I came back home the same route today, it didn't make a single sound. I can't explain it other than maybe in the heat today, the parts that caused the noise yesterday have now expanded and are no longer causing the noise?

Hi Martin. Intermitent issues on automobiles can be a pain in the neck:( Because the owner of the unit needs to catch and replicate the problem for Toyota tech personnel. I hope that you would not hear the rattling noise again or determine exactly where the noise is coming from. I suggest that you check the engine bay too for any plastic stuff that might got in there by chance.

Once po nag open na yung radiator fan twice and mag bukas na yung thermostat sa loob, all the unwanted air inside the cooling system would go up to where the radiator cap and radiator reservoir are located. once mangyari po yun, considered bleed na yung cooling system:)

normal lang po that the coolant level would drop even for a fairly new vehicle. apparently, it's due to engjne temperature and other factors. replenish nyo na lang po near the full mark.as long as are no leaks in the radiator hoses, cap, and reservoir i think your 2020 unit is ok:)

I thought coolant is just an antifreeze and consumers called it coolant (i dunno why), but basically it is not really responsible of cooling our system but the mixture of water with it. If no water, it is plain useless and can cause damage to our engine right? that is why there must be a mixture of water and there is also a premixed 50(water)-50(antifreeze) out there. If u are in a cold place, 30water, 70antifreeze is recommended. So it is not the coolant that does the cooling but the water component into it. I believe one component in an antifreeze(or commonly called coolant) liquid is ethylene glycol which is a type of alcohol that helps water's boiling point go higher but really it is not the antifreeze that does the cooling as what the name itself tells (anti-freeze). But maybe i am wrong, plz share your thoughts. :) Thanks po! :) another DIY video- salamat tlga!

I've just checked and there is no USB cable in the glove box. I think it is two pieces of badly fitted/manufactured plastic mouldings knocking together. I'm taking it back to the dealer tomorrow morning and I'll drive a technician around and let him listen to it. I'll let you know the outcome.

Hi Teacher Aaron. I think pwede naman:) Although you need to do it twice siguro if you want to replace the old coolant in the engine block. I suggest kung schedule na ng wigo mo for a coolant change, you can drain and fill the radiator after a month, do the drain and fill process again to fully replace the coolant. Also, you need to siphon the old coolant from the reservoir and change it with fresh ones if you don't want to remove the cooling fan and other stuff. You have to do that on the first drain and fill. You can use an aquarium tubing and a turkey baster to siphon the old coolant:)

Jenifer Devera That's ok because after burping the coollng system using the new coolant the excess coolant will be transfered to the radiator. And in my experience I still had to add some more coolant on the radiator up to the filller neck after using the vehicle for three days:)

you can use a siphon na may maliit na tube so you can remove the old coolant from the reservoir po. nagdedeteriote kase yung quality ng coolant over time kaysa recommended na pati yung nasa reserve container palitan. may nakita ko once sa lazada na small siphoning gadget that uses an aquarium tube. i think it will work.

Thanks for watching!:) You can refill the coolant with the same or similar type of coolant as long as your unit's odometer has not reach the recommended interval to change and flush it. If you have the budget, you can also get a specialized siphon device to suck the old coolant from the reservoir.

Nagpa coolant replacement ako sa shell pero hindi nila hinaluan ng distilled water as in pure coolant lang po, tapos after a week nag overheat po ung engine ko (nagpakita ung indicator sign) and pinapalitan ko ung auxfan, tapos si fan hind sia ng aautomaric kahit mainit na si engine, need kopa buksan ung aircon bago sia turn on ung fan. Hi sir question. Pano yung water na naiwan sa engine? Pag refill kasi ng 50/50 coolant sa radiator hahalo sya sa water na naiwan sa engine block. Thanks

vauntace26 walang engine block coolant drain plug sa wigo, so after mag open ang radiator cooling fan at least twice bubukas ang thermostat kaya nalinis at napalitan na din yun ng bagong coolant.

Okey lang po ba mag halo ang tubig at coolant kasi flushing puro tubig tapos diretso coolant. Yung last flushing pure water na lumalabas so buong system nya tubig na ang laman at pag nag didrane laman lang ng radiator ang natatagal di kasama yung fluid na nasa engine block na for sure tubig ang laman. So ayun po may emty na yung radiator pero may tubig pa sa engine block pag nilagyan na ng coolant yung radiator at pinaandar mag hahalo napo yung tubig at coolant

pwede naman top up lang if the mileage is less than 160k kms. use na lang pro 99's pink coolant:)

Hello Sir Allan, Gusto ko lang po malaman kung mali po ba yung ginawa ko? Nagpa gas po ako sa shell station, they check the engine bay, and found out yung coolant is below normal level na. So sa takot ko po na baka mag overheat si wigo, nag offer po ng binebenta nilang coolant si shell. Yun po ang nilagay nila para lang po ma- maintain yung level ng coolant...Okay lang po ba na nahaluan ng ibang brand ng coolant? na ang original color is pink po (na mukhang coolant pa from Toyota), pero nahaluan sya ng coolant from shell station? What do i need to do po? Masama po ba yun sa radiator and cooling system ni wigo? Do i need to drain and bibili na lang ng coolant sa Toyota?? Please advice po?

hello po. I think ok lang po yung coolant na nilagay since it came from shell station and pink din naman. don't worry about it.

kung wala pa ang odometer sa coolant replacement schedule, you can simply replenish the coolant on the reservoir.

Sir Allan, may video na po ba kayo nagawa on how to change the fan clutch oil on radiator fan? Yung wigo ko po kasi hindi na maganit ang ikot ng fan kaya mabilis na uminit po ang side at hood. Nakakapagpabagabag lang baka magoverheat kapag hindi po naagapan.

Sir normal po ba na magbawas ng coolant? 6months ago nong nag top up ako ng coolant sa may reservoir at ngayon nagbawas siya ng kunti lang naman siguro mga isang baso ang nabawas. Salamat

Sir patulong nman, hinahanap ko kung saan yung thermostat ng wigo. pag matagal aksi nag o on ang overheat sign nya. nag palit na kami ng bagong fan sa radiator pero ganun pa rin. sabi bka sira daw ang thermostat. mas mainit yung itaas na hose nya papuntang radiator kaysa dun sa radiator hose sa ibaba na papuntang water pump.thanks

hi mikee, apologies for the late response. the thermostat is located at the end of the upper radiator hose. kung magpapalit ka ng thermostat, you need to replace din the coolant and burp the cooling system.

Well just don't forget to turn off the AC, because if the AC is on usually the radiator fan will turn regardless.

Kung sa casa 3k yan. Time consuming lang and gas kalaban mo dyan. Di mo na need baklasin yung radiator reservoir para kunin yung coolant dun. Gumawa ka na lang ng suction tool like what I did. Syringe tapos dextrose hose lang hanggang sa makuha mo lahat.

Ren Bryan Castillo When the wigo has already reached its normal operating temperature after i put in the new coolant (umandar na yung cooling fan twice), all the possible air pockets trapped inside the system will go up the radiator cap sa loob. they look like small bubbles so, when i top up the radiator with additional coolant lumabas na yung air sa loob ng system.you just need to top up the coolant then it's considered bled or burped na:)

Not advisable. By introducing distilled water into the system, you've diluted the 50/50 premix coolant solution. A simple drain and fill is more than sufficient. At most, you should flush it with 50/50 premix.... more costly, but it will not mess up the premix concentration. Just an idea.
