Thanks man, I'm not a car guy by any means but this video was incredibly helpful for my new Saturn!

Got an "old" 2003 Saturn ION with 191K miles now (bought new with a bit over 60 miles on it). Learning new stuff with this video... Got a Starter acting up so been meaning to lift from the front (as shown in the Video) and get more room (to the Starter) then I usually get just lift up on the Driver's side (For Oil Pan access). Used a 1 1/4 inch Socket for the last 20 years... Until February 2024 when I tried using it on my (new to me) 2014 GMC Terrain which uses the same Oil Filter Housing/Ecotec combo... BUT the GM Engineers thought it was a good idea to allow the Oil Filter Cap to get tucked under bits of unmovable Engine Components. So finally invested in the Low Profile Socket. Works nice for it and the ION (less adapters/extenders needed)

Thank you so much for clarifying this only takes 4 quarts. I have seen many Google sites saying that it takes 5 quarts. I'm getting ready to change my daughter's oil and don't want to screw anything up. Of course, I don't have the manual 🤣. You got another lady here that doesn't like paying a lot for that muffler!

Thanks for the tip to lift/stand from the Front of the vehicle on that Support... Been "tipping" from the Driver's Side (which helps the drain toward the oil plug) front tire lift point for 20 years. With over 191,000 miles my Starter has been acting up so been meaning to pull/test/replace that (and could use some extra Elbow Room), along with an Oil Change (going to try Valvoline's Restore and Protect, hopefully to "fix" both Oil Consumption from sticky rings, and reduce higher wear numbers (per Oil Analysis).

Thanks for this video. I may give it a shot with my Ion. Just curious, shouldn't you change the oil first before the filter so the new filter doesn't have the dirty oil?
@JoeKurzawski3 жыл бұрын
On most cars I would say yes but these engines have the filter on the top. So before or after it won’t make a difference.

@@JoeKurzawski Just wanted to say that I finally changed the oil in my Saturn Ion yesterday. Your video was easy to follow and brief. Hardest part was getting the tools needed. Thanks for your help!

Ever have any problems with the ignition. Like with the recall Saturn has with the ignition switch and car not starting in the cold.. I ended up switching it did the re-learn process and still havin same issues. Happens when it’s hot outside as well
@lgoamity3 ай бұрын
Might be late to the issue... But if it hasn't gotten the recall (new switch), start there,. I know LONG AGO (early/mid 00's) my local Saturn Dealership had "upgraded" (replaced) the part of key/switch assembly that, particularly in Freezing Temps, caused the "grease" inside to solidify and cause intermittent/poor electrical signals causing the Security System to not recognize a valid key... (I'd experienced the problem several times and I had to "warm up" the ignition via a Hairdryer. Let me tell you using one in -17F Weather it is still blowing "Cold" air...

2003 Saturn ION. Over 191k miles, Full Synthetic much of the last 20 years. Planning to use Valvoline's new (as of early 2024) Restore and Protect... Take care of increased wear numbers (per Oil Analysis) and hopefully unstick the Oil Rings (Oil Consumption the last few years)

A 32 mm is huge, far larger than the one you used in this video. You must be mistaken.
@JoeKurzawski4 жыл бұрын
Jon W 32mm for the plastic oil filter cap not the drain plug. Sorry for the mixup
@jonw12354 жыл бұрын
Joe Kurzawski no problem. What did you use for the drain plug?

Jon W 15mm

Joe Kurzawski thanks. I asked for a 32 mm at the hardware store and the second I held it in my hands, I knew it was way too big for the intended purpose..lol.

An Ion 2.2 takes 5 quarts of oil not 4. You're down a quart there
@JoeKurzawski5 жыл бұрын
Broken Fuel Gauge manual we had said 4. Never had an issue or the dipstick show that it was low. Put like 50-60k on that car and traded it in. After you commented I looked it up and saw that some people had typo manuals saying 6 quarts as well
@lgoamity3 ай бұрын
Was going to comment that my 2003 ION uses 5 (with new filter).

Do you HAVE to change the o ring? It's not filtering oil or anything so if the one that's on it is still good why change it?
@JoeKurzawski3 жыл бұрын
It comes with the oil filter so might as well they can always get brittle and crack overtime so if it comes with it for free takes about a second or two to change it why not
@lgoamity3 ай бұрын
I tend to replace the O-Ring every few changes or when I replace the Oil Cap itself (usually when it looks rather beat up/worn down). Occasionally find the Cap/Filter (with O-Ring) on sale for less then what many stores charge for just the filter alone. So no brainer to just "drop in" the whole thing Ready to Go out of the box. (Keep the old Cap(s) as a backup in case of any future "accidents")
