Wow! The brake piston magically receded back far enough that it fit right back on the new pads!

The video presents a high-level overview of a rear brake job on a B6 Passat; this is clearly not a step by step DIY video. I greatly appreciate that the video identifies the proper Torx bits required for the job. Major shortcomings are: 1. The obvious failure to tell people you have to retract the rear electric parking brake as mentioned by more than one person in the comments. There are various videos how to do this retraction manually or with the proper computer tool on KZbin. 2. Mechanics are instructed to NEVER let a brake caliper hang by it's rubber hose while changing brake pads; support it with a bungie cord or a box stack up if bungie grab points are not available. 3. Torque values. As mentioned by another member, it is always nice to have the torque values presented in these videos. 4. Please tell people to lube the caliper guide pins. The mechanic in this video completely ignored this step. If you are at the point you need to replace the caliper, it's time to re-lube the guide pins. AutoDoc, thank you for providing the overall video, but attention to these details will make your videos, parts and product sales that much better.

I like how the bracket bolts came out so seamlessly with only first try., Either that bracket had been removed before or you "braked" the bolts with impact.. I worked on my and gave all the hand torque I had with bar but needed impact wrench

There is no thing as a TORX 14mm! The right description is "Triple square MT14". Also, I'm stunned by the fact that you don't even consider using a torque wrench. Besides that, I like the fact that you keep it clean. You might also add for this task, that a VW dedicated scanner, or one which has MAINTENANCE features built in, will be ideal to be used to retract the elector-mechanic brake, falsely known as "electronic brake".

Ebrake need VCDS or VAGCOM, the carrier bolts need triple square bit 14 mm and they have a TON of torque on them!!! With jackstands not enough room to maneuver the breaker bar.....but got it done finally!

and yet that is NOT how to do it . after a while you will ,,upset'' Parking Brake and it will flag a fault as WM has 3 procedures - retract pistons via computer prior to install new pads, fw piston after replacing and basic settings after to ensure good function of parking brake and/or auto-hold function.

I tried this and the motor on the caliper is now broken. You definitely need a computer for the module and ajust the motors. Nothing beats a simple, analog, ebrake with a cable.

I was able to successfully do this manually by winding the piston back with an allen. I believe it can also be done with a torx.

This video didn't show that in order to retract the ebrake you have to remove the motor and the turn and push the piston in, in order to retract it manually. It is a spline bit to remove the brake caliper bracket and not a torx. This information is incorrect, and not professional.
