How to change the engine oil on a Mk5 R32 basic service.
The engine oil was the next thing to change on the R32, as the basic service was due.
Lets get stuck in and try to avoid getting oil up the arm!

Glad to see someone else 6mm hex filter drain bolt is stripped ;) Now I am more at peace for draining twice already by just removing the whole plastic filter cap. I suggest putting a big (15+ cm wide) funnel under it at the same time...

Mine isn't actually stripped now, but it wasn't coming off previously, so the entire housing was replaced. Hard to beat a big plastic tub to catch the old and for an easy drain off :).

New coolant bottle anti freeze changed new oil and filter took about 3hrs and about £100 running sweet as now thanx pal. Maybe the haldex service next 👍👍🤜🤜

I have subscribed. Enjoy seing work done on the MK5 platform. I would use Castrol LL3 5W/30, but I guess that oil is not bad?

Honestly not sure. I do believe that use a different filter, so possibly not.

Good job on the service. Quick question with all the fluid changes etc you have done on the golf recently, a normal garage would record this in the service manual and stamp it. With a DIY job as such are you concerned about the sale of your R32 in future with most buyers wanting a full service history stamped up on the service manuals?thanks

Hi Andrew, thanks for the comment. I have a fully documented service history with receipts, videos and mileage records to prove. I would say that's worth much more than a stamp in a book that doesn't guarantee things have been done, never mind done right.

Neil Magill yea this is true, I would far rather do a lot of work myself on the motor but feel anyone buying the car would always want a stamp from a mainstream dealer which is a shame as we know they can cut corners at times but charge plenty for the supposed work they do!keep up the videos, a POV drive in the R32 would be a good job to hear the note from her!!

Hi just confirming if 19mm is original r32 size? Mine has a leak at the moment and not sure if I should put in a larger sump plug?

The ones in use here are actually my dads. Pretty much any store sells similar, Argos, Halfords, Amazon, Ebay etc.
