Thank you very much for the video. It was very helpful! But I have one big problem. While installing the new battery, everytime i connect the cable to the negative part, the car starts to honk VERY loud! Do you know what the problem is? I have tried pressing the key (opening the car) but the honking does not stop...
@SanKraNsWorkshop
@SanKraNsWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Hmm, there might be a couple of cases that causes the horn to honk when changing the battery: 1. Check the Battery Terminals - Corroded or loose terminals can cause all sorts of electrical problems, including making the horn sound randomly. 2. Check for a Short Circuit - The first thing you should do is check for a short circuit. The best way to do this is with a circuit tester. You can pick one up at any auto parts store, and they’re relatively inexpensive. 3. Problems With the Fuse - Test the fuse with a multimeter to see if it’s blown. If it is, you’ll need to replace it with a new one of the same amperage. If your car’s fuse is blown, it can also cause the horn to sound random. The fuse is there to protect the wiring in your car from getting overloaded 4.Wiring Problems - This can be caused by a number of things, including loose connections, damaged wires, or corrosion. The best way to track down a wiring problem is to use a circuit tester. A car horn that starts going off randomly can be extremely annoying. Fortunately, it’s usually not a very difficult problem to fix. In most cases, it’s simply a matter of cleaning the battery terminals or replacing a blown fuse. As such, you don’t have to take your car to a professional every time this happens. However, if the problem persists, it’s definitely worth taking your car in to get it checked out. There could be a more serious underlying issue that needs to be addressed.

@@SanKraNsWorkshop Thank you so much for the quick and thorough reply! Just leaving this comment here in case someone else has the same problem: The Terminals were fine and the fuse wasn't blown out either. For the rest I'm not technically skilled enough so i contacted Land Rover over the phone and they told me to close all the doors + the hood of the car and press the key several times and also to try and start the car. The motor started running but unfortunately we still couldn't get the honking to stop... I ended up just pulling the fuse out so i could at least drive the car to the mechanic. They guy at Land Rover took a look but even he didn't know whats causing it. I now left the car there to get it checked. Sometimes modern cars are a mystery 😅

@@haeschensk8er Thanks, I always try to reply as fast as I can, usually within 1to4 hours, I know that sometimes the situation is dire and a fast advice is much appreciated, and Indeed, in this modern day where we rely a lot on hundreds of sensors, you will be amazed if you ever want to change all the wiring on a car after 2013, you can cover miles and miles if you put them in a straight line :)) Thats why the mechanics uses the diagnostic tool because without it they will not be able to troubleshoot the electronic issues. And if the diagnostic tool doesnt trow any error code, they will provide you a stupid answer like you have to live with it or change the car, it happened to me on a Renault Clio :)

Do I have to have a diagnostic tool? One video I watched said to leave the car running whilst changing the battery to get around that.
@SanKraNsWorkshop
@SanKraNsWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Hi, Barry, the short answer will be: NEVER change the battery while the car is RUNNING! You can google "battery replacement while the car is running" and you will see all the bad things that you risk going through. "Never remove the battery from your car while the engine is running or the ignition is on, regardless of the year, make, or model. By doing this, the electrical system can experience a high-voltage spike that could harm electronic modules and/or the charging system."; And to answer to the question regarding the diagnostic tool, you need to understand better what is the BMS (Battery Monitoring System) So on short and with my own words as the name states its a battery monitoring system that controls how much power goes to certain modules, so to create a visual image, imagine that you are in the city and you have all resources that you require (new battery) and your car is running lets say "standard" voltage then over the passing years we reach the other scenario when you go out from the city into the desert and you dont have all the resources that you need (old battery) then the BMS module will restrict the current(goes into a lower voltage) that the car gets in matter of energy so you can run normally through the day so it will survive the desert, so if you put a new battery and dont reset the BMS module the car will see that you still have the old battery and will still run/distribute the energy like you are in the desert. So for that reason, we need to reset the BMS module so the car knows that it has a fresh battery and can run standard voltage once again. If I get 2 more requests on this topic I can create a short video about it and explain it in technical detail. So basically it's not mandatory to reset the BMS module, but I STRONGLY recommend you to do it, get a diagnostic tool they are cheap these days, and anyhow you will need it for the future car jobs that you will do on it. Like cleaning the particle filter or brake pads change, or to read the voltages needed, etc.

Hi . What is your voltage while driving ? Is it always more than 14.00 V ? In my Evoque at the beginning is 14.5 volts , then 12.90 volts, then 13.5 volts. I'm not sure if this is OK....
@SanKraNsWorkshop
@SanKraNsWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Hi Pies, while you are driving, the battery charge should range between 13.7 volts to 14.7 volts, if you have values below that, first check the battery terminals, to not have some white dust around them(corrosion) if they have some, get a sand paper and polish the terminals a bit to clean them and apply some electric grease over them then, make sure that you tighten the terminals very well, and do the voltage tests again, if there is no change and the voltage is still below 13.7v then you should suspect a faulty alternator. You can use a tool like this one kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaiuiZuGjb2Dbrs i have a video on it and you can check also the alternator to see if it have high or low voltage load. (in my case the load with all the consumers on it ranges from 14.3 to 14.5). Let me know if you find the issue/culprit.

@@SanKraNsWorkshop All connections and cables are like new - no problems at all. My story: I have a manual gearbox. The battery in my car was 11 years old. This is a big success ! This year the resting voltage in the morning was already below 12V. During the drive to the workshop (2 hours without stopping), the voltage was 12.9 volts. Of course, when the engine was turned off, the voltage immediately dropped below 12 volts. They professionally installed for me the same battery as yours. Driving home for about 1 hour, the voltage was 14.7 volts - and then only 12.9 volts. It interested me , so I started checking it out. I noticed interesting things: 1) If the car has the engine running then when the driver's door is opened the voltage immediately changes to 14.9 volts (And is maintained all the time! - if I close the door is again less than 13 volts). 2) While driving, my voltage is usually below 13 volts. If the car is accelerated and I let go of the accelerator pedal - then the voltage rises to about 14.5 volts (engine braking in gear). If I press the accelerator pedal again, the voltage drops back below 13 volts. My conclusion: my Evoque has an alternator controlled by the ECU. The computer decides what voltage and when to give the alternator. Sometimes it recovers energy. Sometimes it stops charging completely (probably when the battery is full). And this seems to be the standard behavior of this model. Perhaps if you check in your Evoque over a longer distance it will be the same.... What do you think about it ?
@SanKraNsWorkshop
@SanKraNsWorkshop Жыл бұрын
@@Green_Smoke777 there might be more consumers on your door than mine, for example i don't have the memory modules for the seats in door, i got mine with less electronic gadgets to avoid some electronic issues for example also without the electrical pillows on suspension and also my model has automatic transmission, but in the end i think you are overthining to much the behaviour of the battery. The main cases that you need to take care is 1.That when the car is stationary the battery voltage should not drop under 12 volts(this means a good charged battery) for a good maintenance of the battery you need to drive long distances so you keep it charged at more than 12 volts, and 2.If the car is stationary with engine running and all the main power consumers ON(ex: headlights/AC unit/Radio/Nav etc) the voltage should not drop under 14volts(this means the alternator is charging properly). And yes there is a module that handles all the power distribution, all new cars with more electronics on it, like ours, have them. Its nice that you monitor the behaviour of the car you shared some interesting information, but i would say not to worry, you have warranty for the new battery and if the case 1 and 2 are fine, i see no concerns in this regard.

As you could see in the video, after you replaced the battery, you need to register the new battery in the BMS module(BatteryManagementSystem) via the diagnostic tool, and do a visual inspection and recalibrate the sensors that require to do so, for example the date and time needs adjustment for the clock, the windows might require adjustments etc.

Only if you want some sparks/errors to go with it. If you want a tutorial on this topic just let me know and I will create one. The right way is: “Positive first, then negative. When disconnecting the cables from the old battery, disconnect the negative first, then the positive. Connect the new battery in the reverse order, positive than negative. It's true that on some older cars the mass is a negative terminal but here is not the case, this is a 2015 model.

Why does the new battery voltage shows below 12v??
@SanKraNsWorkshop
@SanKraNsWorkshop 10 ай бұрын
Batteries lose power if they are not used or recharged, Once the battery is connected to the terminals the modules will start the energy drain, after the first ride the alternator charged the battery and it was somewhere between 12.6 to 14.4v. That's why if you have multiple batteries or cars you need to get a charger to keep the juice in your battery full. For that you will need a NOCO Genius I have a video with him here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKWwXoWHhch-maM

@@gottieduardo7536 The best thing to do is to get exact specs that you had on the previous OEM battery, this days our cars have a whide net of electronic infrastructure, and its designed to drawn the right and exact amount of power for each module, in your case you are under the specs, so go get the code from the OEM battery search for it on the Battery shop and get the exact match, otherwise you might risk to burn modules, fuses or other critical components. Coding the battery is sometimes more expensive an it will not fix the main problem, unless if you get a bigger battery than OEM but even then you need to replace also the alternator with a bigger one because it will not fully charge the battery.
