If you’re not using a fluid transfer pump, there’s another way to drain the fluid from the pan. Once you remove the first bolt in the bottom of the pan, that plastic tube inside the transmission pan does unthread, it takes a 5mm Allen and it unthreads and serves as a drain plug. I didn’t mention it in the video! Hope this helps!

Dude, Thank you!! A TON!! I've been trying to figure out how to service the trans in my Golf. Your video is exactly what I have been looking for. I have looked for the filler tube since I bought the car, 4 years ago. I saw it when I replaced the starter but didn't know what I was looking at. Thanks again!

Okay so good news and bad news I put more fluid in it like you told me and that seems to be the issue it drove like a dream for the first 3 days but then it started shifting kind of hard and now my check engine light is on and it won't go into fourth gear and I have to get it up to about 4,000 RPMs for it to even go into gear at all could it still be a level fluid issue any suggestions
@ChaseBuiltBikes7 ай бұрын
Go ahead and triple check the fluid on a level surface with the engine up to operating temperature. Make sure the fluid is right in the range, make sure it’s not too low, or too high. After that, you’re going to want to get the car scanned with either a good scanner, or preferably VCDS. If the fluid was too low for too long, that’s very bad for the transmission and may have cause an issue internally. So I would definitely just triple check your fluid level, make sure at operating temp there’s just a small drip coming from the plug on the bottom when you remove it, and after that, get the car scanned and see what codes it is throwing. If the fluid level is okay, VCDS is going to be vital in diagnosing the transmission, where you can look at the parameters and monitor what exactly the transmission is doing while driving. The 01M has a decent amount of valve body issues, the car I serviced in this video, I replaced the valve body on due to a hard shift condition into 3rd gear. You would have to rev to about 3500-4k RPM’s in order to get it to go into gear.

@ChaseBuiltBikes yes if it's not in limp mode it's running 3.5 rpms at 45 mph I put card board under it last night and it's still leaking from some where possibly the bottom gaskets of the coolant box. I couldn't get to those when changing the top ones tday or I didn't get a good seal when I changed the filter all of which I'm about to check. Thanks so much for your help. As a women learning the ropes of working on her own car you've been a Godsend

Nice , question....i just baughtva 1999 vwvjetta 2.0 automatic...and tranny engages after 1 minute aftervi putbitbin drive , could it be low on fluid...it drives fine afyerbi start driving
@ChaseBuiltBikes11 ай бұрын
It could be low on fluid, there may also be an issue with the valve body, possibly a sticking solenoid (Common failure point on the 01M Transmission), and lastly the transmission internals could be worn aswell. I would definitely inspect the fluid, and if that’s okay my most likely guess would be a valve body issue. It would be best to get a VAG COM cable and use VCDS to look further into the transmission.

my 2012 Jetta Turbo diesel trans overheated, will changing out fluid and filter save it?
@ChaseBuiltBikes Жыл бұрын
It depends on how long your transmission was overheated for. Changing out the fluid and filter will help, I would also inspect your transmission cooler, and make sure everything there is good. If your level was low, there wouldn’t be enough fluid to cool the unit which could lead to an overheat.

Thanks for the video. I changed my Jetta 2002 TDI automatic Trans fluid have the car level(on jacks) proper now it won't turn the wheels over?? Any thoughts?? Thanks, at a loss
@timothypeterson5847 Жыл бұрын
Proper fluid level I might add.
@ChaseBuiltBikes Жыл бұрын
@timothypeterson5847 I would just triple check your fluid level is correct, make sure that your tube is in the pan and it’s not just the plug in there, when you pull the plug you’ll see another Allen in the hole and that’s the check tube, make sure that’s in there. If the fluid level is good there possibly could be an issue with the filter, possibly it got plugged. It could also be that something got unplugged while removing the pan. I would check all connections near the transmission and on the valve body as well
@timothypeterson5847 Жыл бұрын
@ChaseBuiltBikes thanks, it's a new filter but, stranger things have happened. It's in my (cold) garage. Maybe filter was frozen when I but it in?? Not sure. Will triple check fluid level. Many Thanks It sat for two days with the fluid out of it in my cold garage. I warmed car up to operating temp but still no go in running it trough the gears 1,2,3, D and R.

I have fluid leaking from my coolant box. While I'm down there i might as well replace the trans filter. I've got a 05 2.0 jetta. Would you know by chance what specs the bolts in the coolant box need to be tightened to? I'm a chick who is SICK AND TIRED of asking for help and not getting it so I'm trying to do this myself

Are you looking for torque spec for reservoir or the oil cooler? The one mounted on top of the transmission? And good for you for taking action! We need more people like that.

I didn't use a fluid transfer pump while changing the fluid and the filter for the transmission I originally had a leak from the coolant box I was able to change those gaskets and stop the leak change the filter and replace the fluid but I didn't do it with a pump does that matter because now the car won't even go into gear at all I'm thinking it may be because the pump somehow pressurizes the transmission any suggestions
@sabrinafelix25118 ай бұрын
I was looking for the specs but I got them and we were able to get the bolts tight enough that the leak has stopped
@ChaseBuiltBikes8 ай бұрын
@@sabrinafelix2511 there’s two things I would check right off the bat, one would be to double check your fluid level with the car level and the transmission warm, make sure you’re getting a ready stream out of the check hole, and two, if you just replaced the gaskets on the cooler that’s mounted on top of the transmission, check that the wire harness that runs under that cooler didn’t get pinched during installation. That’s the main harness for the transmission and it runs directly under the cooler mounted directly un top of the transmission, and if that is pinched it can cause a whole bunch of issues, including no shifting.
@sabrinafelix25118 ай бұрын
OK and how would I go about fixing that? Just loosen the bolts again, and what exactly am I looking for. I am a women and as I'm not your average chick I am new to working on my own shit at this level.

That is not the fluid for that car. You have to get fluid from VW or a source that has the correct mineral oil tranny fluid that is a detergent and the MK2 was the last model that took that fluid.
