saying no to any prospect who tries to get a lower price has been a huge benefit. In the past (when I occasionally agreed to a discount) those people always ended up being the problem clients in terms of scope creep.

The part about offering choices is CRITICAL. It's like proactively negotiating and allows you to set the parameters preemptively as opposed to someone wanting the same thing at a lower price. If they want a lower price, they get less work out of you. Also, it saves a lot of back and forth.

Openly talking about money (in a productive way) needs to be destigmatized across the board. I’ve always been open about my pricing with my colleagues and we’ve all been able to grow considerably based on knowing what each other are charging.

Hi, sorry for hijacking your comment but i had to ask-how is videography bussiness in Sweden? Is there enough work and how hard is the competition? This is absolute gold! This can be so helpful in what is a very touchy topic to discuss in our field. I believe we touched on it between our conversations, but being this transparent and honest is truly the best thing ever. Explaining the how, when and why you charge what you charge will help guide those that are not sure what rates should look like for particular jobs. This honest info I feel that is missing from this platform Thank you! Keep pushing!

Use structure base pricing. This way you never have to ask for their budget.
@Semesem_Ай бұрын
@@samt8017 not every project fits a structure. Ask for the budget if needed
@samt801724 күн бұрын
@@Semesem_ structure base pricing is like buying a car or even a Mac computer. You have a base price and then you ad on what you want according to your budget. For example: Let’s you are filming a talking head. Your base price can be 300 and includes, one camera, 1 light, and 1 mic. Then you give the client options. Teleprompter extra 100, 3 point lighting extra, 100. Second camera, extra 100 and so on. Having a structure base pricing eliminates you having to ask for a budget and gives the client the options they want and, you don’t have to be the one that takes the hit and discount all the time.
@Semesem_24 күн бұрын
@@samt8017 buying a product and buying a service are not the same at all. As you mentioned buying a car and Mac (product) are TANGIBLE , COST OF PRODUCTION , MASS PRODUCED. While services are INTANGIBLE, VARIABLE COST LIKE TIME AND SKILL , and SUBJECTIVE VALUE. It just doesn’t make sense and it’s a easy way to lose money in my opinion.
@Semesem_24 күн бұрын
@@samt8017 maybe it’s important for you to eliminate asking for a budget because it makes sense for your business model , but it doesn’t for mine. For several reason : A clients budget sets expectations , saves miscommunication , allows for Upselling , Ensure a mutual fit, and avoid being undervalued. I just don’t see the point of eliminating asking for a budget for my business personally
