@@RiichyyRiich123 hey thanks for the comment. The coolant can only be added to one place and one place only. The coolant reservoir as shown in the video. There is a link in the video when is playing that shows how to replace the water pump. At the end of that video I show how to fill the coolant properly. Just scroll to around the 1/2 way mark and there is a symbol in the top right corner click it and you will see the other related videos. If you have any questions just let me know. Thanks :)

@GarageKing

Hey there, ya could be your water pump. I wonder how it shoots up at your mirror? The only way I can think of that is if you took off the cap with the engine hot and it came flying out. If your pump is not circulating coolant properly for some reason (like a blockage or something) then the ECU will command the pump to stay on as the ECU (computer) doesn't know any better and it will just command it to stay on until the temp comes down (which won't happen if you have a circulation problem)

@@kobe_goat_24 Hey sorry for late reply, I had to go into the raw footage to see the pump part # Its a Doorman 599-960 model. I did use a genuine BMW thermostat, but the pump is aftermarket. I found the connector was REALLY REALLY hard to push together on the water pump, and I even used a set of pliers to compress the fitting. I thought I was going to break it. I'm wondering if yours is plugged in all the way, I could see the plug not being seated an issue, because it would work, and then vibrate loose a bit and loose its connection. The 2E84 can be caused by a bad ground so make sure the ground terminal that you had to screw onto the front of the pump in clean and tight, and check the connector. I would be curious so let me know if that helps at all.

Most likely it probably is, and a good sign is when you are driving faster the engine does not need the water pump as much as there is more air flow cooling the engine. Here is how to change your waterpump kzbin.info/www/bejne/gV6tiaiDfcyJgKc

@GarageKing
@GarageKing Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the comment, you fan will only come on when ac/defrost is engaged, or the coolant temp is hot (close to or above boiling) The pump should be ok, as it is variable, so cycles during driving and does not run full steam the whole time. Just make sure you you get all the air bubbles out so you don't confuse a weak pump with one that is pumping air/water mix. During the test it is suppose to keep cycling. If you have a scanner with bi-directional control you can test the pump and also see the temp when the T-stat opens and you can get a better picture of the engines efficiency.

Hi, I have a question I replaced the water pump twice already between only 4months. My question is why is it still breaking is there any problem that I could look of why my water pump keeps breaking?
@GarageKing
@GarageKing Жыл бұрын
Hi There, 2 pumps in 4 months is way too much !!! A replacement pump should last a few years. The things I see.... 1. Make sure pump is properly bled, air bubbles cause the pump to run too much and can cause failure. 2. Make sure the connection (plastic connector) is good. Its a real ***** to get is connected and sometimes you have to use pliers to squish it together until it clicks and its got to be straight. A bad connection can simulate a bad pump when really the pump is fine, its just the connector wiggles out or someone broke it putting it in. 3. Ground - make sure the ground connector is good as a dirty ground can cause problems.

Hey man brilliant video. I do this cycle and the water pump doesnt kick in and my cooling fan runs. Do you have any ideas?
@GarageKing
@GarageKing Жыл бұрын
Hey There, well you may need a pump. A sure way to check to make sure is with a bi-directional scanner. Just make sure you are doing exactly as show for the test. It would suck if your timing was off and your pump was actually ok. If you go through and the pump still does not work, you can check if there is a fuse that is blown. (I'm not sure which circuit the pump is on) If have to replace your pump this is what you have to do. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gV6tiaiDfcyJgKc If you are doing the test right, then most likely you need a new pump.

@GarageKing

If your pump is operating below spec you can still get that code. It could still be your pump. At times the wiring can cause this as well (you can get a replacement harness for the pump) but many times its the pump. You should have quite a bit of pressure when its operating (bleeding)

I’ve had a few coolant hoses go recently on my N53 and when it is losing coolant quite fast it makes a weird buzzing noise but different to the one in this video. Could this be related to the Waterpump too? Or maybe just the pump running dry with the loss of coolant?
@GarageKing
@GarageKing 2 жыл бұрын
You have a good theory with the buzz noise being attributed to a dry pump. I have never heard a pump run dry, but it's a possibility. I'm not sure what else it could be, unless the coolant you are loosing is spraying out and hitting something hot, or hitting a thin piece of metal and by the time the sound travels back into the cabin it sounds like a "buzz"
@jordanclarkson2010
@jordanclarkson2010 2 жыл бұрын
@@GarageKing Yeah, it was the coolant pipe that goes to expansion tank and it was leaking onto the radiator when the car was warm, so I guess that would kind of explain it. The buzzing noise could only be heard from outside by the way. Thanks for the reply 👍

My check engine light just came on my 328xi. Said the engine was overheating around 250F but there is a leak around the valve gasket. Would that be the cause or could there be more issues. Your help would be appreciated 🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾
@GarageKing
@GarageKing 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, and thanks for the comment. Valve cover leaking would not cause a check engine light, or cause the engine to overheat. It will only result in an oil leak. Your overheating is caused by a problem with the cooling system, or the radiator fan. 1st thing to check is the coolant level because if you have a leak there won't be enough coolant for the pump to circulate and the engine will overheat. If the coolant is full its most likely the water pump, thermostat, radiator fan (or the relay or electrical system that turns the fan on)

I have a 2000 323i wagon. The other day my temperature gauge went to RED rather quickly. It’s never ran hot before, the only part I’ve had to replace is the fuel pump. Anyway, it was completely out of coolant, and there is a massive leak that I am about to look for. Any advice?
@GarageKing
@GarageKing 28 күн бұрын
If it was completely out of coolant, that’s a pretty big leak. I would look for a split hose. You could always put a pressure tester on it and pump it up and listen for leaks (air coming out), or just fill it with water and see. Good thing/or bad thing is the leak should be fairly easy to find.
@markhenderson8832
@markhenderson8832 27 күн бұрын
@@GarageKing so the leak was my expansion tank. There’s a light blue sensor/ plug on at the bottom that was hanging loose, so that’s where the massive leak was, lol. Should I replace the whole thing? Or does that sensor just plug back in ? There’s no damage that I could see, given that it just completely drained itself in a matter of seconds. Sorry for the dumb questions, I’ve always taken my car to the dealership for scheduled maintenance and the only repair I’ve had to make was the fuel pump. I’ve never had to work under the hood on it.

Does driving with insufficient coolant increase the chance of water pump failure?
@GarageKing
@GarageKing 10 ай бұрын
Yes it does, as the water pump is designed to run in coolant with no bubbles. When your coolant level get low you can introduce bubbles and your waterpump won't be as effective so the computer keeps speeding it up to get more coolant flowing, but there is not more coolant so what happens is your pump runs at a higher rate of speed and can burn out faster.

@GarageKing
@GarageKing 2 жыл бұрын
Hey There, probably not the waterpump as they don't generally make that sound. I doubt its the crank as you would have a low pitched "thud" that raises and lowers with RPM. I think most likely you may have a bad bearing in one of the idler pullies for the serpentine belt. You can take the belt off, start the car and see if the noise is gone. You can alway use one of these amzn.to/3QHUnEZ to listen closely. I have one and use it quite a bit.

@GarageKing
@GarageKing 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, you may hear the water pump, but its really quiet when the pump has failed. You can check the fuse for the waterpump, Its in the fuse box under the hood on the passenger side. You need to remove the fresh air filter cowl from the top of the engine, in order to remove the cover. There is mostly wires in the box and its made out of white plastic. I think its a 30amp fuse. It may be the only fuse in there, you can pull it and look to see if its blown. If its ok then most likely its your waterpump and you are going to want to watch this on how to replace it. Also if its blown, a bad pump drawing too much current can also blow the fuse. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gV6tiaiDfcyJgKc

But when the car is running its a nice strong stream. Should i replace thermomstat an water pump anyways?
@GarageKing
@GarageKing 7 ай бұрын
Humm, I'm wondering if your pump is intermittent. Because of the speed deviation I would lean towards changing the pump. The speed deviation usually means the pump is not operating within parameters all the time which is usually a sign it's going. Now it could go on for a while, or go downhill fast. Some last longer than others. But before you go changing the pump make sure your coolant is full. If it's low, that can cause deviation as there can be air in the system.

It could be that your pump is not flowing enough. Sometimes they kind of 1/2 fail and they don't flow enough. If you pump if flowing, but not enough your car will still overheat. The other thing is if the system has dirty coolant something could be plugged, you may have to flush with water and refill with coolant. Hi there, I wonder if you introduced air into the system. I would try to bleed the system of air, and activate the pump, just like in the video a few times, as it pushes air out of the system. You most likely have an air lock "a big air bubble" in your system.

Hey There, I did film the changing of the pump, but I didn't edit it yet, so I have about 4 hours of footage that I have to make into a 12min video. It can be done. You have to jack up the car, remove the underskirt, and if you look just behind the steering rack its there. There are aluminum mounting bolts, and you have to get ones ones as they stretch. Its not the easiest job, but if you take your time and allot a good portion of the day you can get it done.

My z4 did not overheat, a hose broke and coolant was dropped but I turned the car off inmediately, no overheating at all. 3 hours later when checking the hose the mechanic tested the pump and it seems like it is not working, the car was cold at that moment, could it be that the pump starts working until the car reaches it's working temperature?
@GarageKing
@GarageKing Жыл бұрын
Hey there, the pump actually doesn't run when the car is cold, and its variable so as your car heats up it runs faster, then you also have your thermostat. You should still be able to do the test on a cold car.
@luisleal4169
@luisleal4169 Жыл бұрын
@@GarageKing Hi, thanks so much for your reply. Checking if my understanding is correct: So if the car was cold, it is normal to not see the pump active until it heats up, once it starts heating the pump will start functioning. However if I do the test(start electrical system but not start engine, press pedal 10 seconds) it should trigger the pump and it should start working.
@GarageKing
@GarageKing Жыл бұрын
@@luisleal4169 Yes you are correct, and maybe try the pedal test again with even timing between the pedal pushes. I know once you activate the car you have to start with the pedal fairly quick, if you don't the car will think you are just pushing the pedal for no reason, there is a small window of time to begin the test.

If your car is pump has a strong spray like in the video, there is the possibility that it could be the thermostat. If you have a scanner with live data, one like this is cheap kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnWvXqd3ntuoeqM as it only costs about 50-60 bucks. You can monitor your engine temp from a cold start and see when the thermostat opens (if it does) and then see at what temp the fan comes one. Very helpful.

Hey there, I know the connection for the water pump is tight from the factory. Here is the link to the water pump replacement video kzbin.info/www/bejne/gV6tiaiDfcyJgKc if the connectors are not tight that will surely cause your problem. Also there is a tight ground wire you must secure. You could also look for a blown fuse. I'm not sure which circuit the water pump is on, but you could check that.

Here is the video to replace the water pump if you need to kzbin.info/www/bejne/gV6tiaiDfcyJgKc Now the first code is fine if your water pump failed, but I'm curious about the other two. If you changed the thermostat you would have taken the waterpump out so I'm wondering if you forgot to connect something fully and the plug wiggled out? I would check all your connections first. I can't see the Blue Devil sealer causing any problem but you never know. I tend to stay away from those sealers as they usually don't work long term, they are more of a temporary patch.

@@mdang3662 You are right but, its still a fairly big job, most do both at the same time. Most times running hot is the water pump not circulating fast enough. Hey thanks for the comment and thanks for supplying your engine code. You have the 4 cylinder engine so you may not have the electric water pump. I’m not sure. An easy way to check would be to look at your serpentine belt under the door and see if it’s driving a pulley that looks to be attached to a pump. The other thing you could do is call the dealer and give them your Ser# They will tell you what type of pump you have. If it’s not coming on when you test it, it could have totally failed so you could have an electrical pump. I would call the dealer and have them check for you. This way you know for sure.

What causes a water pump to break down?
@GarageKing
@GarageKing 11 ай бұрын
It could be a number of things, as it's an electrical device. They break down with age and use, just like a starter motor or alternator. Some last longer than others. Good vehicle maintenance such as regular coolant flushes, and keeping the engine clean can prevent corrosion which can contribute to problems.

Hey there, if your water pump is bad it should overheat after a little driving. The one in the video that I posted overheated pretty quick and it was in the winter. When I did the test on the vehicle in the video and listened closely I could hear the buzzing on and off. When you tried it could you hear any sound? You can definitely hear a good pump run. After I changed the pump and did the test I could easily hear the pump turning on and off. If you car is not overheating your pump is probably ok. What’s going on with you car? What’s the symptom ?

Hey there, make sure your fan turns on when it gets hot. You can test your fan by turning on the defrost. You don't have a fan clutch, but maybe you meant the fan relay. There is a fuse, and its on the passenger side in a white box under the hood near the cowl. BUT if your pump is running the fuse is fine. If you are getting flow like in the video, then you may have a bad sensor which is telling the computer your car is cold, when it is really hot so that's why the pump is not turning on. You can check this with a scanner that has live data. Start the car when cold and monitor the temp on the scanner, it should increase and if it doesn't then you have a bad sensor. I just did a review on a cheap one that works really well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnWvXqd3ntuoeqM

You mean your car stops suddenly on the road? When your car shuts off if your temp high? If your temp is high you could either have a leak and your coolant level is low, your thermostat could be stuck, or you may need a water pump. There is also the possibility there is something wrong with your charging system, but then I'm not sure if you would have been able to restart 8 times.
