Got the exact same scooter, identic color. honestly I've checked my oil this morning because I found my oil pressure light to take a bit too long to disappear when starting up, and I thought Man, what fool of an engineer decided it was a good idea to put the dipstick there? hats off if you can check your oil without burning your hands on the exhaust and if you can get the dipstick back in at the first try. Only italians can do this kind of thing.

Hi Robert, I followed your channel with remarkable interesting. Thank you very much. One question: should I screw stick for checking oil level? Verbatim from Vespa HPE manual: "Engine oil level check (03_01, 03_02) Every time the vehicle is used, visually inspect the level of the engine oil when the engine is cold (after completely unscrewing the oil cap/dipstick). The oil level should be somewhere between the MAX and MIN index marks on the level rod; «A»; while the oil is being checked, the vehicle must be resting on its centre stand on an even, horizontal surface." I am looking forward your information. Thank you Francis

I wonder if the first dot rule on the gear oil level is also true on a 2009 250 GTS Super? I just checked mine and it's filled to the top dot. Should I be concerned?

Great video sir thankyou for taking the time to make them.Im having an issue locating the oil filter on my 2006 Vespa Piaggio fly 4 tempi. On all the videos I've watched on most scooters the oil filter is beside the drain plug which I've located its easy to get to. However I can't find the filter it's not beside my drain plug.

Filter is located on the exhaust side, just in front of the exhaust, near the header. Hope you can locate it...

Quick question - i see conflicting info on the correct hub oil level of the GTS300 HPE. The owners manual with the bike states the first line on the dipstick (first line above the dot), and the HPE Workshop manual actually states the second line on the dipstick is the max level? Any idea which is right?

Well, you didn't laugh or throw up when describing new dipstick location. What was Vespa thinking, you might wonder, but they weren't, when they designed the oil filler. It will be a detraction from what I am sure is an otherwise excellent scooter. Perhaps they were trying to cool the oil using the water pump, to cool the motor from the results of getting more power from it, but even then, the filler could have stayed where it was. Alternatively, perhaps a large syringe would work, such as used for the gear oil. As usual, an excellent and informative video.

Hi Robert, I am having a GTS250 engine and have been getting different info in terms of the gear oil level. Not sure what's your thought on this? Is it the 1st line will be good for MAX? or we should be using the 2nd line on the dip stick as the MAX for the GTS250 model? appreciate the input and advise man. Thanks

Really depends how much you have exceeded the upper limit. It it’s 1 or two mm; you should be ok. There is a margin of error designed in. If on the other hand it is 3mm or more above Max you will need to let a little out. I would loosen the sump drain plug (ensure you have the right bolt) careful to not undo it till it all comes oil. Just loosen the sump plug until it seeps out at a rate of a few ml/ minute. Regularly check the level trying to aim for the max line on the dipstick.

Hi Robot!.. I'm looking a discrepancy after reading the Vespa GTS 300 2023 manual. The manual says... (after completely unscrewing the oil cap/dipstick). The oil level should be somewhere between the MAX and MIN index marks on the level rod; Does it means you need to check the oil without screwing back the dipstick?

Hey Robot, I was gonna check the oil level when I noticed that the plastic rod had broken. I'm afraid the tip has gone down the oil shaft. Is it safe for me to ride around anyway, or do I have to bring it to the service? The oil filter should prevent the plastic piece from doing any damage, no? Thanks for the help! Great content.
@VespaMotorsport
@VespaMotorsport 3 жыл бұрын
The plastic will post likely be obliterated by the moving parts inside the engine and any debris will be collected by the filter. Wouldn't hurt to change the oil/filter sooner than later, just to be safe. Let us know if you need a replacement dip stick 😉

It's quite a relief to see this answer directly from vespa motorsport. Why? Cause I did the same exact thing to my new 2021 gts on the first 600 mile service when I changed the oil (what a God awful design for a simple dip stick) I was fuming. I scoped thru the hole and I can see the broken piece resting on the bottom. I assumed I would open the drain nut and check the strainer, then the oil filter and hope the piece was there.. Nope. Then I removed the side of the oil pan(with the help of ROBOT) expecting it to be lying there , and I would just take it out. Nope, not there either. then i took off the small plate inside the oil pan that contains a sprocket and chain for what I assume is the oil pump. No luck there...then just to see,, I did a test with the plastic that the dipstick is made of, and it sunk to bottom of a cup of oil (it does not float). At that point I buttoned everything up and called it a day. I'm hoping that piece will eventually find its way into the strainer or the filter. The thought of a foreign object in my Vespa is not sitting well with me. I am meticulous about its care. It appears others online did this too. There really should be a recall. Perhaps a stainless steel dipstick would solve this. If any tech from Vespa San Diego have seen this, or have any opinion on what to do , feel free to comment. To those going forward, that dipstick has to go in at a presice angle , if it does not , and you try to screw it in, the tip of the dipstick will break off with no way to retrieve it. ThNk you Vespa SD for the quick shipment of the new dipstick and oil pan gasket.

Hello Robot. My 2020 Vespa 300 oil warning light began coming on at about 800 miles or so, back in august 2022, while my scooter was still under the manufactures warranty. The oil light intermittantly comes on, and will stay on for a while both when I'm sitting still, and when I'm driving. I did have my first service on time around 500 miles.When I am driving, the oil ligeht will sometimes go out , but will come back on. the Vespa dealer where I bought my scooter from did a diagnosis of the problem back in August of 2022, and determined that the oil pressure sensor needed to be replace. They told me they ordered the part back in August 2022, and the part arrived sometime in mid Nov 2022. I took my scooter in to let them put the oil pressure sensor on in mid Dec 2022, when my scooter had about 942 miles on the milage gauge, and my oil light was still coming on after replacing the sensor.. If you were to take an educated guess, what would you say is causing my oil light to come on? I've been subscribed to your channel for couple of years ow, and I have watched a gazillion of your Vespa video's, so I don't really don't believe you have to take an educated guess to determine why my oil light keeps coming on the way it does after the oil pressure sensor have been replaced! The mechanic did say he was going to call you, and then call me, but I haven't heard from him, so I reaching out to you myself. please help me. Though I haven't been riding my Vespa, the problem hasn't mechanically prevented me from riding it, and my oil resevoir is full. Sorry for the lengthy message.

The service manual of my Beverly 300 clearly states: "visually inspect the level of the engine oil when the engine is cold after completely unscrewing the oil cap/dipstick." The engine and the drivetrain in my Beverly 300 are exactly the same as in the Vespa GTS 300. But in this video the dipstick is fully inscrewed to measure the oil level. Can somebody clarify?
@orfeas92

You must screw again the dipstick before inspecting. This is for all piaggio engines. For most of the other bikes, you check the oil level without screwing the dipstick.

@VespaMotorsport
@VespaMotorsport 4 жыл бұрын
You sure could. The fender with headlight bucket will mount up no problem. However, getting all the lighting tied into the existing system can get pretty expensive if you want it to operate as if it was from the factory. We've had requests to do it in the past and no one's gone through with it after they see the cost involved.

I have two motorcycles and I can't believe what I'm seeing and hearing about these scooters. No engine should be using oil, there's something obviously engineered poorly. I wanted to buy a scooter but after watching many of these videos everything looks so poorly engineered and cumbersome to work on. If you're paying a premium price you should be getting a premium scooter, especially one without so many plastic parts. I have never seen a company use zip ties to connect one part to another. A zip tie is not a clamp and should never be used as one. If there's anybody who can change my mind your opinions are welcome.
