Hey, JR. I was practicing and videotaped myself. I used your calculation and found my rev rate. Mine was (11 revs ÷ 2.7 sec) x 60. My rev rate is 244 rpms. Wow!! Thanks my friend.

Seems like there are alot of variables that would make getting an accurate rev rate a difficult task. It would seem to me that rev rates are always changing based on things such as what ball you are using and the lane conditions, which are always changing as you bowl more and more games. There are other factors as well. It is hard for me to grasp how anyone could actually know their rev rate when it is probably something that is not consistent.

It's better to do the calculation for the first 3-5 revs, that way the ball is still in the oil and the calculation is not affected by how long the pattern is. The ball is going to rev up on the backend and falsely increase the result.

The way I was taught to check rev rate is like this: Using the idea of a Clock Face, take a standard video at 30 frames per second. Pause the video at the moment right before the ball is released off your hand. Measure how many hours the ball turns in 10 frames. As an example: My ball, after my fingers come out, rotates from 12 o'clock counter clockwise to 4 o'clock in 10 frames. That is 9 hours. Take the 9 hours and multiply it by 15 which equals my rev rate. 9x15 = 135 rpms. Much lower than the formula JR is using which gives me 171 rpms.

I'll do it right down the oil. If it's house ill throw it right down the middle arrow so it hits full oil. Since breakpoints will give you more revs. If you stay in the oil it won't really hit dry so it'll be more true

I beg to differ, you HAVE a high rev rate JR. Yes Two-Handers are higher, but they are special animals. Super Revvers. Most "normal" bowlers are 350 and under. So you are in that "high" category for one handers. Using your formula I come in at 171 rpms. 8 rotations in 2.80 secs.

nice video JR - where do you put the coloured tape - from above your fingers to your pap ?

Should technically be placed from above the ring finger down to your pap

From the time by revolutions calculations I’m low to mid 600rpm range, by the other method ppl in the comments are talking about I throw 540rpms off my hand

The type of ball you're throwing matters if you're using this method. Balls with a lot of surface will slow down faster and appear to have less revs over the length of the entire lane. Polished balls will not encounter the same friction and therefore will not slow down in the same way. I would imagine that using a polished ball would therefore give you a more accurate reading.

I think you're being too generous honestly, a 450 rev rate is getting pretty up there considering most pros are in 500's and you're not far from that. Just my opinion, but good informative video.

Actually his real RPM is lower due to the method he used to calculate it. The correct is here if you're interested : kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5ianIqIq55_pNE

450 is the nut low. Most of the highest level players are somewhere in the mid 500s/low 600s. JR is in the low 400s.

I guess if you throw it slow enough you're in the 400s. Speed plays a big factor in this method.

@@Tenpindoctors but the rpm of the ball is not constant the whole way down the lane. It's faster on the backend...
@Tenpindoctors
@Tenpindoctors Жыл бұрын
@@amleto300 see my other comment on the other persons post. I said that. But lowering your ball speed to make it have more revolutions before hitting the pins doesn’t make your rpm’s higher unless you actually spin it faster which most don’t they just throw it slower. That was my point that I don’t think Chaz understands

How much does the type of ball/layout affect this equation? I got 350ish on my 1 handed shot. 477-520 on my 2 handed shot. Got one at 586 on a strong Asymmetrical. Will the higher reving cores show more? Or did everything just go perfect on that shot? That seems way too high. I'm more of a medium Rev 2 hander.

This is a bad method, it has too many variables. Try this one --> kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5ianIqIq55_pNE
