I only have the Triglyceride form of high strength Omega3s from Nordic Naturals in gel cap form. Excellent absorption. I rotate it with Krill oil from Sports research and other omegas 3-5-6-7-9-11 in a complex. Note: You need adequate bile and lipase output for optimal assimilation and absorption of omega3s. You need 1000mg for ageing brain and heart, and 1500mg for therapeutic applications. That's only DHA+EPA. Other omegas like 5-6-7-9-11 must also be kept in balance. It's not as simple ad just guzzling omega3s. Tip1 : Store your omega3s gel caps in refrigerator. Do not buy non-encapsulated omega3 oil in bottles, it will go rancid fast ! There are many brands, but Nordic Naturals triglyceride form rules. If you are looking to optimize liver, heart, brain health also consider methylated B vitamins, glyine taurine, methionine, carnitine, potassium, magnesium, zinc, essential aminos. Tip2 : If you are prone to ROS and oxidative stress, combine your intake of omega3s with mixed tocopherols dry vit E which inhibits lipid peroxidation and will inhibit rapid oxidation of omega3s.

To get phosphorylated DHA/EPA (APOE4 gene needs it), do these brands provide that as well? Or is krill oil the only option? Unfortunately krill oil is more likely to have high concentrations of microplastics because krill are filter feeders. Is there any vegan alternative to phospholipid DHA? This might be less likely to have microplastics.
@quantumphysics46927 ай бұрын
Personally, I think supplementing with a high quality algae DHA made in controlled conditions is the way to go for purity reasons. Also each pasture raised egg provides roughly 100 mg of DHA (already converted in the chicken from the ALA). The data shows the fat soluble pollutants in the ocean are high and some of these pollutants the body cannot really break down or eliminate so they bioaccumulate over time. For every gram of wild salmon you’re consuming roughly 6 nanograms of PCBs. If you were to eat 3 small 5 ounce portions of wild caught salmon per week you would end up with roughly 2.7 micrograms of PCBs per week. The problem is they bioaccumulate and aren’t really eliminated likely staying there for many decades (which is why studies show the Inuit have far higher levels of PCBs the older they get). This means that cumulatively 2.7 mcg per week would be roughly 130 mcg per year. Doing this for ten years straight and you’re looking at around 1.3 grams of PCBs stuck in the body and brain. Some cogeners of PCB have half lives as little as 7 months others as long as 133 years but the most common forms of these pollutants in the ocean are PCB 138 and PCB 154 with half lives of 3.4 and 15 years. There are many other types of PCBs in the ocean with half lives around 15 years being typical. There are also potentially higher amounts of some other man made pollutants like PFAS (which never break down), POPs and PBDEs found in varying amounts close to 100 nanograms per gram in wild salmon in Patagonia (one of the most remote pristine regions of the world). As a result of the PCBs, the affiliate hospital under the Mayo Clinic is recommending people eat no more than one small 4 oz serving of wild salmon every month. Other doctors in other areas are recommending 2-3 small servings of low food chain fish like wild salmon or sardines per week. I don’t even want to do it moderation anymore. I am trying to stay away from seafood and fish oil altogether as there are multiple other ways to meet or exceed the recommended daily value of DHA. Just my thoughts on the matter.

Very informative. What about flaxseed and chiaseed? Are there good alternative?
@quantumphysics46924 ай бұрын
@@AK-ox3mv Yeah you just have to eat a bit more because the ALA has to be converted to DHA and EPA and does so around a 10% rate. You can definitely get enough through the seeds and the purity will be vastly higher than from fish.
@Codysurfsup4 ай бұрын
@@quantumphysics4692 Unfortunately, you have to eat a lot of seeds to get even 500mg of EPA & DHA combined. Just did a ton of research on this. Seems like ALA converts to EPA at 8% (at best) and DHA at 4% (at best). To put it into perspective, you'd need to eat about 5 and a half tablespoons of chia seeds to get the minimum omega-3s per day. That's a TON of fiber and is very likely to cause digestive issues. Not to mention, high ALA levels, we're not sure what long-term effects this has. I've also looked into SDA since it converts to EPA more efficiently, but there are very few studies on it, and the ones that have been done seem to indicate that it doesn't really improve cholesterol or triglycerides, despite improving EPA levels. The biggest conclusion I'm drawing from the research I've done... It probably isn't just EPA/DHA from fish that improves health. There are likely other factors. This is likely why studies are unable to provide conclusive evidence about fish oil supplements.

I highly recommend his two books on fish oil.

The main advantage attributed to krill oil is the phospholipids to which the Omega-3s in krill oil are joined so that is likely to mean that milligram to milligram you could be getting a lot better effect from krill oil Omega-3. I do think there may be some phospholipid oriented fish oil supplements out there, you would have to check that. But yes the amount of Omega-3 that you get in one krill oil soft gel is pretty small by comparison, so if you are going to try to take large dose omega-3 you will need to go with fish oil rather than only krill oil.
