nice explanation.can wax be used on coating after a couple of washes
@MichaelMorrow-v4j7 ай бұрын
Helpful video! If you go the route of Power Lock + 845 Wax + Beadmaker and you need to recoat after the 6 months, what work do you have to do to recoat again with this trio and have a good/proper contact with the base clearcoat? Will a good wash and full decontamination (chemical and physical) be suffifient, assuming you are still happy with the paintwork (minor swirls, etc.). Or do you have to also use a Panel Prep as part of the recoating process?

This might sound like blasphemy but I had some honest questions.... I have a 2021 Tesla Model Y as a daily driver, sometimes kept outside sometimes in garage. It has never been "treated" other than I hand wash it and apply Gyeon Wet Coat occassionally. 1. If I go down the Sealant/Wax route, how will you tell when you need to reapply both? 2. If I go down the ceramic coating route how do you tell when to reapply? Is the answer when you run your fingers over the paint you feel resistance and that "eee eee eee" rubbing sound? Or is the answer to just estimate in month's time like stated in the video per each product? Thank you, it's been ages since I detailed a vehicle to perfection!

Great question! The first thing to know is that maintaining protection on your paint is not a perfect science, regardless of what people may tell you. A product might say that it will last six months or two years, but that's just an estimation. Depending on the condition, it costs to stay one day or till the end of time. The best thing to do is pay attention when you're washing. You should look for slickness or the "Eee Eee" sounds you mentioned, as well as water behavior. So, is it beading well, or is it holding on to water? Those are going to be your best indicators of the health of the protection. That being said, it might not be a bad idea once every year or so to stip your car of all protection and apply a fresh new layer. Especially if you live is a state were it snows. Hopefully, that was helpful.

Gtech is better for trimwork. But I have yet to see a coating last more than 12-months (give or take). The cost of 845/PowerLock ($5 per vehicle in product) vs CSL/EXO is substantial.

I'm not sure what it is, but I'm starting to see more "coating failed in less than a year" gripes too. Not sure if it's lack of care, crappy run of product, or some combination. I was going to try a ceramic coating on my new truck, but I can wax a lot of times for the cost if that's the case.

@@HammerPowered They claim to last long. It's marketing. The 845/Polylock is a good combination. Especially when using P&S BeadMaker as a drying aid. I have yet to hear any indication that OG Drying Aid plays well with 845/Polylock.

Can I put regular or spray wax on top of ceramic coating? Seems to me that might be the way to go. I use turtle wax ceramic spray wax in case that matters.

Yes you can put a form of wax product over a ceramic coated vehicle, but no, the reason is because when you’ve put a wax over on top of a ceramic coated vehicle, you’re masking the effects of ceramic coating ie hydrophobic behaviour, self cleaning abilities and chemical resistance. Best get a ceramic detailer to freshen up the ceramic coating after each wash :)

You can put a wax over your ceramic coating but the answer is no, the reason because your wax will then mask over the properties of a ceramic coated vehicle I.e hydrophobic properties, self cleaning ability and chemical resistant. Best get a ceramic detailer to freshen up your ceramic coated car :)

My bassist got one last year. He got paid out for design app and but that, a Macan, an M3 and a new home on a nice lake. I've polished and installed Gloss Coat on the M3. The GT3 is getting done before winter, as is his Ford pick up. He rolled the Macan back in Feb on some black ice..
