Great video. I have a 15x15x10 room and a 12" was really struggling especially with the tower speakers and power going to them that I have. I went up to a hsu 15" VTF-15H MK2 and it is outrageous by comparison to my old 12" Klipsch. Way more rumble and punch. It actually pressurizes the room, I always say get as much sub as you can afford and I'd also say over do it by a lot rather than under do it by a little. You can always adjust it down...can't go past max.

Still have the hsu? How's your opinion of it now? What's low end like. 30hz and below.. 10hz isn't a huge deal for me but 20hz is a must and must do with authority.. why I'm replacing klipschs now
@brianhorrorfan

@@chrisjones6165 no idea what the Hz range is as I've never checked or worried about it TBH. I can tell you this, I still love it, it still works flawlessly, and it rattles my bathroom window which is on the same floor about 25ft away from the sub through two walls while watching the new Dune. The options are great on it as far as customizing it to your specific needs to so if you contact HSU they can tell you how to set it up with the EQ and other tuning options to fit what you want it to do..... But all that being said I would look at the new Monoprice monolith 13" thx Sub. Due to the prices of HSU going up and having pay for shipping the HSU is going to run you $1354 now. The Monoprice monolith 13" thx is on sale for $1549 right now with free shipping. You get much more power and if you read the audioholics review it is a monster that dips down to 10-12hz in room at insane SPL. For my money starting new I'd 100% go the monolith 13" thx or 16" thx for $1550/$2100 route .

1250 cubic feet - I think about SPL-150 (15" sub), I live in a flat, so won't be maxing this. Will it be ok or should I AVOID it, because sound will be worse than with 10" sub? Or I can get 15" and sound will be better compared to 10", just won't be able to use all this power?

Hi Technodad. My room is 28' x 10.5' X 8.5' so 2500 cubic ft (enclosed) But want to build an additional wall (similar to Superdave) to create a sort of media closet behind my TV. creating a new 5X10.5 closet. (with the tv wall being 10.5 feet long) So room changes to just over 2050 cubic feet. What do you think for this set up? dual 12s? I am a little in danger of running out of wall space with a 75" TV and two Tower speakers (unless I place subs under the TV?) It works, but the wall is PACKED and I'd like to get a nice floating TV stand,console under the tv. I know I don't HAVE to place subs at the front of the room, but I really like the look.

This video was a great idea. Worth making BUT...while they are general guide lines...we know one "12-inch (driver) sub" is not the same as the next. One might have more power. One might have nicer built-in amps, less rigid cabinets...etc. Then there is how the room walls were treated for sound--were they sound "suppressed"? Do they have absorbing and reflective panels? Does it have wall-to-wall carpeting? How much furniture...etc. So many variables... And where did you come up with...1500 cuft room should have 2 10" subs...etc.? Just personal experience? Curious.

Yes I got a few questions for you. I have a BIG MANCAVE almost 9,000 cu ft. My single Velodyne DEQ-10r subwoofer which has 195 watts RMS and 390 watts dynamic which is placed in one corner does actually pretty good. However, I do not get the heart rumbling, wall shaking like I should for movies, I am mostly into movie watching a little music but not so much, so bass in music I don't really care it its there or not. But movies is a different animal. I am looking into replacing the subwoofer though. I don't like the footprint of the SVS PB 4000 (to DAMN big) and the PB 3000 is a little more tolerable but not to much. Here is the question. Question about the SVS PC 4000. Do you think that one PC 4000 should take care of the problem, I am thinking this has 1200 watts RMS and 4000 watts peak, at the Minimum power out it still is putting out 6 times the punch of the Velodyne. The PB 4000 is just to damn wide and deep for my liking. But the PC 4000 has a great footing to it. I understand that its like a used glove you get use to it and don't want to change gloves. I have talked to individuals at SVS doing my homework and research and they are telling me that I should run duels but I don't think its necessary I am thinking its a sells pitch to spend more $$$ lol. I am thinking since the Velodyne does what is does with the minimal watts it does put out ONE bigger sub will do great. I am also in the process of resetting my Home movie system. I am trying to reset my 7.1 Surround system. I am running a Marantz A/V receiver model SR 6006, 100 watts per channel. I need some help in the speaker settings. the following is what I have set it to. But I am not sure if these are correct. can you help me out and give me the proper settings for the best quality. ...... AIM8 Two In-Ceiling (Speakers) A/V Receiver / Processor: Speaker/Subwoofer Crossover Frequency (Hz) 80 Hz Stereo Pre-Amplifier or Receiver: Low Pass Filter Frequency Setting (Hz) N/A Hz Low Pass Filter Slope (dB/octave) N/A dB/octave AIM CINEMA ONES (Front) A/V Receiver / Processor: Speaker/Subwoofer Crossover Frequency (Hz) 80 Hz Stereo Pre-Amplifier or Receiver: Low Pass Filter Frequency Setting (Hz) Hz Low Pass Filter Slope (dB/octave) /octave AIM LCR 1 (Center) A/V Receiver / Processor: Speaker/Subwoofer Crossover Frequency (Hz) 80 Hz Stereo Pre-Amplifier or Receiver: Low Pass Filter Frequency Setting (Hz) Hz Low Pass Filter Slope (dB/octave) dB/octave I am very open minded and keeping all my options open. But I really need help with this situation. Also I have high frequency hearing loss due to my 20 years in the Military combat tours etc etc. I don't want to lose the rest of my hearing so I am just a little concerned about the subs output. What is your opinion on this.....I look forward to hearing from you.

My room is 18x14x8. A little over 2000 sq. ft. Several years ago when I first set up my home theater in that room, I tried 2 8" subwoofers which didn't work for me. So, I went with a single 12" SVS sub which I loved. Recently the amp in my sub went out. So, not learning from my first try at dual subwoofers, I bought 2 10" Klipsch subwoofers. They just couldn't reproduce the bass I was accustomed to with the SVS. So, I ended up returning the Klipsch subs and buying another 12" SVS which I love. The plan now is to eventually replace the amp in my first SVS sub and try dual SVS subs. A single 12" SVS sub is enough for the room, but I want to try dual subs just for fun.

Hi, I’ve short listed these two sub woofers, the Polk HTS 12” and the BIC America F12. I haven’t auditioned any of these yet. My room volume comes around 2000 Qubic. I have this Polk S20 Bookshelf Speakers for the front channels. I am using it for purely music purposes and I have plans to upgrade the system to 7.2.2 or 77.2.1 later. So my question is which sub should I choose for my room ?. The sub should sound excellent for music(like EDM) and movies that is the end goal. Please suggest one!
@TechnoDad
@TechnoDad 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Manoj! I would go with either. They both look like solid performers with a ported enclosure which will give you better bass extension for both EDM and movies. So pick one and see how it works. You should be able to return it if you want to try the other one. OR...but both and try them out, and keep the one you like.

Unfortunately returning will not be possible in my area. and I can only get the audition of the Polk HTS 12 at most. because BIC F12 is not available near me and have to order online and they will not accept return!. so I have to depend on other experienced peoples advice on this situation. so please take this in consideration and replay

Channa hi nice channel I am more of a diy person more satisfaction than buying a brand wanna have a perfect audiophile stereo and 5.1 setup. Have you tried using a receiver as a Pre amp and say 4 channel poweramp with Active crossover with passive dual 10” peerless subs the poweramp will run my subs so I don’t need plugs where I put the subs. I felt surround not a big deal and also the center I use the reciever or maybe add another poweramp for them what’s your take. I like diy cause I feel I can make it look better than commercial speakers and not make home minister unhappy with boxes around. Room is 3000 cub ft

I have a small 1056 cu ft room. I’ve had dual 12” R12SW Klipsch front firing subs. I thought they would be an upgrade as they are Reference line compared to my older Klipsch down firing SUB-12’s Icon line subs. I don’t get that deep bass feeling in my chest from the new subs like I did my old ones. I ended up buying the old SUB-12’s again and after comparing specs notice the old ones have 100 additional watts each and go lower in HZ.

I have a PB4000 and although it puts out a good amount bass, I don’t “feel” it. Just measured the volume of my room and I am at 4400 cubic ft, plus an open stairway that leads to the entire first floor. (Theater is setup in the basement.) So do I just add a second PB4000? From everything I read when running duals, ideally they would be 2 identical subs. With the addition of a second PB4000 will I be able to “feel” it? Or do I need to move up to the Ultra series?
@TechnoDad
@TechnoDad 6 жыл бұрын
I think you should probably be good with another PB4000. 1200 watts RMS x 2 should be enough to get that impact you're looking for. Yes, in a perfect world, you would want the exact same sub to get rid of any dead zones in your room.

Question for you guys. I have a room that's approximately 18 feet deep 7 and a 1/2 feet ceiling and and 12 feet wide. I plan on using two 12 in subwoofers for a dedicated theater room which I'm building. Am I going overboard ? I know everyone swears by multi sub which is finally why I decided to do it upstairs in my living room which sounds absolutely amazing. Only problem is I don't want to upset the wife and disturb the kids with a loud noise. Which is why I'm building downstairs in the basement.

Techno Dad, does the viewing area reflect the size of the sub? So if your airspace is 4,000 cubic feet but your sitting 6 feet away from the subwoofer. Could you still get by with a smaller sub than you recommend? Like a good quality 12"?

Hi Eric! Yes, it probably does. Since you are so close to the sub, one 12" should. Now if you were trying to get even bass in all seating positions, that might be a bit difficult.

Don't you have to consider how low a subwoofer hits and the power it is fed? I have a dual 10 inch subwoofers that goes down to 23hz with 300 watts of power and 1200 watts dynamic. I do understand that bigger subs are able to take more power and should be hitting lower frequencies but end of the day it's the actual specs that matter right? My room is 3000 cubic feet approximately and it opens up to other areas but I had to set the volume on the sub to 1/2 and on my receiver at - 3db for the low-end to not overpower the speakers themselves.
@TechnoDad
@TechnoDad 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, all very good points. Balance is a topic I got to in another subwoofer video, and probably what I'll get to in this series as well. Getting the proper balance between speakers and sub are very important as you don't want to overpower the sound with too much bass.

For home theater I've had Celestion, Klipsch, and SVS. For car audio, I've had Orion, Boston Acoustics and JL. My best car system had three JL 12" subs in a custom fiberglass enclosure built into the spare tire well with a new false floor in the trunk. Very awesome system, until the car got stolen, lol!! I would love to see what JL has for home theater, and I'd also like to try out Velodyne subs. As far as dual subs, it's about even bass for all seating areas.

@@TechnoDad Thank you so much for the quick feedback. Yes, I kind of figured that, but I have two specific questions that maybe you can help with. First for “reasonable listening levels across classic rock, traditional jazz, prog and some classical, would I be better-off with a 2-3 large 16 Ultra SVS subs, a greater number of 4000 series (e.g. 4-6), or even more of the 2000 series (all add up to about the same price I’ve budgeted for). Finally, the room is very asymmetric with mostly non-parallel walls and such, other than the floor-to-ceiling axis (slthough it has large cove molding along the circumference of the ceiling). Also, it is open via 5-foot by 12-foot hallways at two places, and has a connected kitchen area, open wet bar/pantry and a partially recessed sitting area that I am sure create areas of different fundamental resonances at various gain function levels. Given all of this complexity, I am at a loss for how to determine optimal subwoofers placement using standard methods- other than trial and error (which is definitely NOT my first choice). As such, do you have any recommendations in terms of process, software or otherwise to facilitate this?
