you have to learn and absorb as many styles as you can. understand their history, culture and community. You also need to study, analyze and research choreography. There is a lot of information that you have to understand to create a piece and that dancer can interpret it. write your choreography, choose the styles, generate movement and let the whole ensemble flow. general guide look for info in your area or schools.

I feel like I'm weird when it comes to choreography. My choreography comes from freestyle so usually I feel the atmosphere of the song and it partially comes naturally. Then I commercialise (make more suitable for a choreo) then from there, voilà 👏🏿. Can anyone else relate or I'm just being weird? 😂🤷🏿♂️

i sucked at identifying beats in school, like if it was 5 counts, 3, or something like that. 8 count is easier ofc. Last year i did a choreography to an old jazz song that i just could not identify what the count was so i just used the sounds like ta ta ta ta ba ba swoosh, and it worked like a charm. I also always try to imagine the scene in my head before i start on the choreography so i know how much i even have to do, and what parts will be moving on the stage, formations and such. Usually that way i don't really have to sweat myself too much with a superlong choreography, and it looks cooler

I feel like I beat box(try) when I try learn a choreo, in my own head. The multiple sounds with the layers of music/instruments, a different sound comes out of my mouth until I can get a rhythm. Repetition of movements with the flow of music is where it all comes together.
