I'm late to the party and new to guitar. This was a HUGE help as technique and of course, practice, matters. I'm 59 years old and retired and decided it is time to work on my bucket list. I love metal and just want to have fun with some chugs and gallops at home. I really want my play to start to sound musical as well and sound better. I'm using a Katana Boss MKII amp and an Epiphone Les Paul Standard. Even on the internet your guitar sounds SO GOOD and I wish I could get that sound. Do I need a better amp or guitar for that quality of sound or is it something else? I did start lessons, and my instructor has set one of the presets to the best sound we could come up with. He thinks it's fine for now, but what do you think I should do or buy? I ask because I know that good sound keeps you motivated, and we all need motivation! Thanks in advance!

@@BrianAz I just ran the guitar direct into the pc.. I used a mixing board that had a USB output.. so the sound was just direct in.. no microphone.. the mic I was using to talk was also just into the mixer. And direct into the pc. I got the mixer for like 60 bucks there not very expensive to get a direct sound

Thank you for showing the very basics. I recently bought my first guitar because my piano doesn't want to chug.

3:30 3:33 Holy crap, man! Any idea what BPM that comes out to be if you're counting that as 16ths? Or however you count it. That's gotta be crazy big numbers as BPM, I think we could maybe better understand how quickly your hand is moving if we could figure out what it is in Hz. And that's not entirely tongue in cheek. BTW, I don't know if you're still active on here or not, but I wanted you to know that I've been playing at playing the guitar for many decades and you confirmed something for me that I'd started doing almost as if by instinct but had never gotten confirmation as to whether it was a valid technique was the angled pick thing. I've taken a liking to massive picks, Dunlop Flow 4.20mm, and it's tough to keep it from digging in too much it you're coming at it with the pick face parallel to the string. The pick wants to hook into the string especially on the upstroke whenever I try to get any kind of giddy up in my gallop. Well, sorryu for rambling on, but I feel like I just learned more from you in this video than I feel I ever got from any one of the few handful of hour long lessons I've taken over the decades. Thank you!

Talking about the alternate picking chug, I'm struggling so bad, man. I do angle my hand in order to make the motion fluid, but it feels like it's kind of forced in that position and I'm not feeling confident. I sometimes tense my hands up unwittingly and/or move my pick with my fingers instead of my wrist and end up giving up my practice, completely frustrated and unable to find a solution to prevent that from happening. I don't have anyone to watch me whenever I play, so I cannot check what I do wrong. I so wish to have a "metal" teacher or at least someone over the internet I can exchange feedback with. Any tips?

I would say from as you have explained. It's not always about the fingers or the wrist movement.. may play with wrist .. and others with fingers in that motion.. From what I know it has a lot to do with the mute.. having that part of your palm In The right spot... is really important.. So it's in a way making a proper muffle. Just do what feels comfortable for you. And what works best for you and stick with that.. We all do things diffrent.. and try to find the basic of that sound in the strings. Then you the tenique that is best for you. And practice that. Over and over.. but make sure it's comfortable for you to do.. Don't force it. Relax with it. And that is the best way to go about it. But the mute of the palm. And where it is on the guitar is the most important. As we all may do things differently. The guitar will always respond the same. No matter how we get there. The guitar will let you know always. So don't think of it as what your doing. Moreno then what the instrument wants... or need to get what you wish to achieve.. If this make any sense or helps? But if you ever wish for a one on one and I have time.. I'm happy to help in any way I can. Thank you for the great question and comment.. In the ends make it your own science with what works best for you. And just keep going at it.all things take time and the muscle memory and feel will come with time. 🤘🧡🤘

@@ThamsWorld I don't think I have quite gotten the whole thing... But your point is that I should keep on practicing? What if I'm practicing the wrong way and it's hindering me from playing the right way and picking up speed? I'm tired of feeling pain in my fingers and stumbling between the strings because I'm not fast enough. One thing is true, though, that I don't practice enough, because sometimes it gets boring repeating the same thing over and over...

Einfach "Art of Guitar - Adam Jones techniques" suchen. Viel Erfolg 🎉
