How to Clean a Door - Pro Tips

Ok, it’s just a door, but they get bloody dirty! Learning how to deep clean a door is handy if you are moving out, selling your house, overdue for a spring clean or … of course … if you are a cleaner.
For a normal door (flat painted surface) you will only need the dishwashing liquid spray, a wet microfibre cloth and something to dry it with. You’ll be surprised what will come off with dishwashing liquid - it really is good stuff!
Don’t use abrasive cleaning products or tools for any door - or damage them you will.

Products I used to clean this door:
Good old dishwashing liquid with water in a spray.
A scrubbing brush for the nooks a crannies.
A wet microfibre cloth.
That’s it!

Not really. I generally stay away from cheap no brand stuff. But most branded versions are fine.

My dad has a house with lead paint on the doors. Is it safe to do this for situations like that or would it be best to repaint the doors?

That’s a good question Mandy. I’ve never cleaned lead paint that I know of. I imagine it is fine if you don’t scratch it or use anything too strong. I only use a brush on this type of door but mostly I don’t use the brush. Just the wet cloth and spray.

Stiff bristle brushes that you use in the bathroom are good for this but otherwise there are usually a few good options in any supermarket etc

Dog hair and other hair can get stuck under doors. Just see sawing a towel back and forth under the door will release it. Then get out the vacuum.
