I have an older Subaru Forester and removing the fuel tank was probably as difficult as removing the engine itself. The fuel pump diaper (strainer) kept getting clogged because of all of the rust. I managed to follow your advice without removing the tank by using a paint mixer drill attachment to agitate the acid/water mix. The tank was super clean and it was followed up by a soap and water cleaning after. It flash rusted the next day because I did not let it dry and used ethanol gas for the first refill. To any other viewers that want to try his method, follow it 100%! Thanks for posting this!

right on time. i need to clean both my tanks on my 93 Lightning I'm restoring. Fairly certain the gas is from 2016 as the previous owner stopped using the rear tank after the fuel pump supposedly went out. I'm still fairly certain is was his ECU though, it was corroded to hell and when they gave up on the truck it wouldnt start so i replaced it along with a few other things and got her fired up after years of rotting. Sorry went off topic, thanks for the video, ill be hitting up your amazon links for sure!

Thanks Chris. I'm not a mechanic for 5 cents, but I'm having problems starting up my 1990 EB, so your video is just right. I can't hear the pump anymore when I start it. I'm afraid I have to do the big tank job. First of all I have to check all my relays and kill switch. No gas pressure. Here in Canada, Quebec, it's very difficult to find parts like the unit in the tank (pumps and sendind unit. Nice work and thank you for your videos and your help.

its kind of funny. my original tank was completely fine when i replaced it a couple years ago. it only got swapped out because of the dent that was costing me around 2 gallons of capacity. it was amazing that it was completely clean inside and it was around 30 years old when i swapped it. gotta keep em moving and a good cap on it.

Need advice. 90 bronco eddie bauer fully original. suspension for city driving mostly, steering wheel moves a bit up and down, piece between the headliner and the top like molding, new rear bumper system that hold spare...old tire rack bent the quarter panels. Thanks for any advice to solve these last few issues.

Steering wheel sounds like bushings. If your tire carrier has damaged your rear quarter, I’d simple remove it as the metal has been compromised. I sell the topper trim as well

I am working on removing rust from a fuel tank right now using evaporust. I drained the evaporust and rinsed out the tank but noticed flash rust very quickly. How did the seafoam spray work afterall? Any flash rusting happen?
@BroncosandPartsGarage Жыл бұрын
Seafoam, did stop the flash rust. We installed the tank then topped off the tank with gas. The Acid removes some of the galvanized coating. We pulled the tank 8 months later. Still no rust. That said, I would still coat the tank after cleaning or just make sure I didn’t leave it empty for long periods of time. The seafoam obviously is washed away with first tank of of gas. Bronco tanks are $100 new. So easy to swap. Older classic cars and trucks, this video is a lifeline.

I have a 13 gallon tank off of my 1941 tractor. It has rust in the entire tank. Would one gallon on each work with rolling it all around so that the entire surface of the tank is hit, or do I need to add more. Thanks!

I think one would do it. Maybe try 30% vinegar. Mixed with some water. Less acidic. Add some nuts n bolts and shake it. Wear protective gear.

Do you have any tips on cutting an access door to reach the fuel pump from the inside so you don’t need to drop the tank to fix or replace the pump?

I’m not a big fan of that. It’s a great time to drop the tank clean out your skid plate and prevent any type of corrosion. I would post it in the Facebook group broncos and parts Garage if you’re not already a member, and I’m sure someone has the dimensions if you go that route

To clean more of the tank, could you add 3 gallons of water in 3 gallons of that acid?
@BroncosandPartsGarage Жыл бұрын
…. You could. Usually the entire tank won’t rust, just the bottom. I’d slosh it around. Safely. It will chew into the galvanized finish eventually. When your done, pout in the baking soda until ALL the fizzing stops to ensure you neutralize the acid. We did not reseal our tank but we had no issues. I still recommend drying and fogging it asap.

Damnit man that was a good video on getting the rust out. I want to do this on a generator fuel tank holds 5 to 7 gallons. Do you have a go on how I could get all the water out, cannot get hands in there. Maybe let the sun dry a few hours pretty hot out right now. I plan on using the marvel oil should the inside of tank be completely dry first?

Yes, used dry compressed air to avoid flash rust. then coat with a light oil like you have planned. something that can be added to a gas tank normally.

Really not any rust in that tank. All the acid did is eat the coating off of the inside of the tank, so now it will definitely rust as you didn't coat the tank. I would have used acetone or alcohol to remove the gelled gas.
