SO question...I ran across a family SUV this week that had the worst soiling I've ever had on seats and I've been detailing a long long time!(almost 40 yrs) The SUV was a fairly new and low mileaged Sante Fe. The seats appeared to be a vegan leather(pleather) and I tried almost everything in my shop to remove the imbedded soiling. Started with Mckees and a leather brush but after a half dozen rounda they still looked horrible, I tried Express and a soft drill brush nope, I tried Purple Power at like 10:1 (maybe even a little a little more diluted than that ) with a scrub ninja. I emptied my bag o tricks but nothing worked...it looked like body soil embedded in on almost every seat(6 kids) . Lastly I tried my steamer with ONR in the water. Nope. I toyed with the idea of a degreaser that I'd picked up form that OFF Road line of cleaners, or a mixture with dawn or similar soap but time ran out. I applied some leather conditioner and sent it on it's way after two days work. The conditioner helped with feel and even appearance but I know what lurks beneath that and I hate not being able to deliver for my customer! What is the most powerful cleaner you've had to use on this type of thing?

Thanks for the tutorial. My interior leather is saddle with light saddle stitching so it's difficult to clean as it tends to darken when wet. Assuming it does clean up, will the ceramic coat help or prevent the stitching from soiling?
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
It will help make cleaning a lot easier for sure, and help to protect the surface from being stained or have dye transfer. Keep in mind these coatings are for clear coated leather. If your leather is aniline (no protective polyurethane top coat), then it won't work. To know if you have aniline leather, drop a few drops of water on it. If it soaks in and stays humid, it's aniline. If the water just beads and stays on top, not creating a soaked wet effect, then you have coated leather. 99% of modern leather is coated leather, but in some rare instances, some people have aniline leather. For more on leather care, see a video I made with leather care experts here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqeue4t9h9OYgMk

Regardless of what leather you have, leather is leather. This procedure applies to all cars with leather seats, or vinyl surfaces (i.e. fake leather or synthetic leather) as well.

New to the game and learning. What is the main difference between using this method vs using the P&S Xpress Interior Cleaner and a leather conditioner?
@PanTheOrganizer2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kelvin. Modern leather is coated, with a polyurethane type clear coat, much like the principle of the clear coat on your paint. So conditioners aren't needed on modern leather that isn't damaged, as conditioners won't penetrate that top protective layer. What is needed is to protect the leather against friction damage, UV rays, dye transfer, fading, cracking, and make liquid spills easier to clean. Hence why I made this tutorial. You can further your knowledge on leather care in a tutorial I made with some of the best and most known leather care experts in the automotive industry in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqeue4t9h9OYgMk Welcome to my channel. G'day Pan, I'm playing catch-up with your last 2 videos. 2 years ago I protected my new cars leather seats with Car Pro Quartz Leather. I have a couple of questions that you may be able to answer. How do you remove the existing coating from the leather seats before applying another coating? All my passenger seats have not had anyone sit in them, front passenger (3 people) in 2 years. Would the coating still be good or does the coating deteriorate over time whether they have been sat in or not? Thoroughly enjoyed the video. Ozz.

The topper i will be using cannot be used a drying aid. Thks in adv. Cheers!

Love your videos. Just got a new car and looking to protect the leather. So I understand all of these steps but I didn’t see anything about leather conditioners. Is that something that should be incorporated to maintenance to ensure the leather doesn’t dry out and crack over time?
@PanTheOrganizer5 ай бұрын
Hi Chris! On new cars, with modern leather, you don't use conditioners. Pretty much all modern leather has a top coat (a clear top layer made from polyurethane, like the clear coat on your paint) and that top coat is impenetrable by the conditioner, so it's pointless to do that step. Conditioners are designed for older, worn and cracked leather, where they can actually penetrate and go moisturize and rejuvenate the hide under the top coat. So for new leather, all that is needed is a good cleaning, and then applying a sealant or leather coating that will prevent fading, cracking, friction damage, dye transfer, and make cleaning the seats much easier. Here's a newer leather protection tutorial I just made: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fn6cf6OHjqyGq7csi=bX331yDwGGHTWaJT Welcome to my channel. Hey Pan, enjoying your site and binging some detailing knowledge now. I have my first new car with leather seats. It's about 6 months old now and was wondering if there are any pro/con to using the Colourblock system you showed for < 3 year vs the Gyeon or Carpro. Are there any advantages to one way vs the other?

The Colourlock sealant lasts 3 months on average. The Gyeon Leather Shield EVO can last up to one year. But even better than both is the new Geist Repel coating. See my review here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fn6cf6OHjqyGq7csi=RyAuj2lOo79A9w_H

Thank you for the video Pan. This video popped up just in time. I am going to protect my leather seats on my new X5. I have already purchased Gyeon Leather Shield and this video is perfect! Question: Will the Leather Shield protect/ condition the leather or do I need to condition the leather prior to applying the ceramic coating? Thank you again for this and all your videos!

Conditioners aren't needed on new modern leather. They don't penetrate the plastic clear coat that lies on top of the leather. So it's best to clean it, and protect it from dye transfer, UV rays, fading, friction damage, etc. Like in this tutorial. Also, we dive deeper into everything related to leather in a video I made with leather experts from world leading Colourlock in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqeue4t9h9OYgMk

Good day to you Pan, got to say that I love your videos you are very professional with some humor. Hi Yves! Welcome to my channel. You discovered one of the biggest car detailing channels on KZbin as we surpassed 1 million subscribers and we have over 140 million views! I have been detailing for 27 years and I love to share my knowledge and passion with my viewers. You found the right channel to help you learn everything about detailing. On a brand new car, you should absolutely start protecting the leather. But you don't need a conditioner. Conditioners don't penetrate the leather's top coat (polyurethane clear coat). Conditioners are only used on older worn leather that has micro cracks, so the conditioner can penetrate to the leather hide. What you need on new leather is to protect with a leather sealant or leather coating, against dye transfer, friction damage, fading, cracking, and make them easier to clean. Just like I showed in this video. You can also see what I applied on my brand new Porsche's ventilated/perforated leather seats in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fn6cf6OHjqyGq7csi=DCglM_48mvokRMPq

Back in 05 i bought a new ford taurus with leather seats and i obsessively took care of them. When i sold the car even the drivers seat was just about perfect, you could see where the leather flexed, but there were NO signs of cracking, the biggest were was just sections of baby butt soft leather. Only had the car for 80k miles, but those seats were beautiful. Even though you read things saying that modern leather is sealed, conditioners are a "feel good thing", etc, continued attention with conditioners and moisturizers does enable them to make their way in the hide over time. If i ever have leather again i'm doing the same thing.

Took care...how?
@volvo094 жыл бұрын
@@toffeltoffel7589 just by constantly using lexol conditioner (and sometimes the cleaner, but very rarely... Only when jeans stains or dirt showed up). I only used that easy to find / average conditioner, but especially in the summer i'd hand rub the conditioner in and leave the seats wet to soak in the heat, and sometimes i'd leave it if i was leaving for a weekend and i'd buff off the remains later. Nothing expensive, but i just did it often. Guess what i meant to say with my original comment is keeping up on it with anything is better than getting expensive or designer products and rarely doing it.

@@PanTheOrganizer Fair point. And it seems that since modern car leather has a synthetic clear coat just like exterior paint, a good APC diluted to an appropriate ratio for the degree of dirt will do just fine and no special “leather” cleaner/conditioner is needed if the clear coat is present and undamaged. Since I already have the APC, this helped me save a few bucks and space! :)

Pan, love your channel! I noticed in this video you don't use a leather conditioner, whereas in the past you've recommended the Chemical Guys line of products (cleaner, conditioner, serum). Does this two-part system (cleaner, protectant) have leather conditioning properties as well, or is a conditioner no longer needed with newer leathers?
@PanTheOrganizer2 жыл бұрын
You would only use a leather conditioner on old faded and cracked leather, or in restoration purposes. Modern leather is clear coated, so there is a top layer, usually polyurethane based, like the clear coat on your paint, and that layer isn't permeable to conditioners, so they don't actually go to the leather. Rather, on modern leather in good condition, you apply a leather sealant or leather coating, to help protect the leather against friction damage, dye transfer, UV rays, fading and cracking, and make cleanup of liquid spills much easier, etc. Like I explained in this tutorial. More on that topic in a video I made with leather experts from Colourlock here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqeue4t9h9OYgMk
@peterolsovsky Жыл бұрын
Pan, between the Gyeon leather cleaner and ceramic coating, shouldn't you use some type of leather conditioner to prevent leather to dry out and develop cracking?
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
Hi Peter. Pretty much all modern leather is "coated" leather, meaning is has a clear coat on top of the leather (similar to the clear coat on your paint). Typically polyurethane based. So conditioners don't actually penetrate that clear coat. Hence why we only use conditioners on older, cracked or damaged leather to recondition the leather hyde under the clear. On new leather, or leather that's in good condition, all that is needed is to clean and protect the clear coat from dye transfer, friction damage, fading/cracking and make cleaning easier. Just like in this tutorial. I spoke about this in great length with leather care experts in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqeue4t9h9OYgMk
