An excellent de-greaser for really dirty door jambs especially by the front door hinge area is to use Purple Blaster diluted 50/50 or even full strength. After you have dried off the areas, I recommend using a light special purpose grease to re lubricate the hinge and arms, as the de-greaser will very likely have removed the hinge grease. A White Lithium Spray, Silicone Spray (WD-40 Specialist) or Teflon / PTFE spray or similar products are all excellent for this purpose. Those sprays will really helps prevent squeaking and rusting. The Lithium is especially good for those winter months as it is very durable in sub-zero temperatures as well as very hot temperatures. Some folks may prefer the ease of the WD-40 Specialist line of lubricant sprays that are available in both silicone and lithium. Hope this was helpful.
@misterlove7034 Жыл бұрын
Which is better, silicone or lithium?
@josephdefreitas56 Жыл бұрын
@@misterlove7034 The white lithium is actually white in color but the regular lithium is clear. The White Lithium is also less messy than regular lithium The advantage of the lithium over the silicone is its operating temp from sub zero to hot tropical temperatures in excess of 100 degree. It is excellent as a metal on metal lube Silicone is also very good and can be used as a lube on rubber as well. So both are excellent. It just depends on your needs.

Hi Pan, Thank you for the video. I always degreased them, and pressure cleaned them, in that order lol. Literally since the 1990's. Then, as I got older, I got slightly more timid. I have been using a rinseless wash lately with a microfiber towel sopping wet on them. If it's really jacked up, I'll use a degreaser first, then a rinseless wash in a separate bucket from the main wash, as if doing wheels and tires. One time, I got paid for an exterior only and thought I was doing a favor by cleaning the door jams and of course got overspray on the seats (as you just did around 10-15 of the video) and the client gave me enough grief that I had to do a full interior because he said his seats were uneven. They weren't. I just told him I did the jams for him and wiped down the seats for him. He took the ball and ran with it. It probably appeared I was covering something. In my world, when getting paid, that is an interior aspect of cleaning. I also separate the cleanings. I don't have something where I do both interior and exterior for one price. I just do my best to estimate somethig to get what I need per hour and to recoup chemical costs. At this point in time I have literally a handful of people I do, but more and more are asking, so I am considering going back into it as a main profession again. I enjoy your videos very much and wanted to see what you did. It was the single only time after just countless cars I had a problem like that. Some people can be just really crappy lol.

The nice thing that I like about my Volvo is that they designed the doors to completely cover the door jams. The doors extend right to the bottom. When entering the car during bad weather your clothes never rub over a dirty door jam. My car is 5 years old and I only pass a damp cloth once in a while to remove dust. That’s it. It looks as new as the day I bought it. However, my wife’s car does need the door jam detailing you are showing us. Thanks for showing us a part of the car that gets missed by a lot of people.

Pan I found that using a pressure washer concentrated through the cracks of the door and trunk openings while closed seems to get enough water on the sills and jambs to allow you to then open the door and trunk and use your soup to wipe down the area. Then, shut the door and trunk lid and hit it with the pressure washer again to remove the soap. It seem to work fairly well and avoids getting too much water into the interior and the trunk.

I'm not sure why, but cleaning door jambs with an utrasoft brush has actually become the most satisfying part of a maintenance wash for me.

I know, right? There’s just something so satisfying about it.

Really enjoyed this one Pan!! Have never tried Wet Coat on the jams. Usually just a QD. Looking forward to trying this.

When doing a polish and coating, I'll do the same for the painted areas inside the doors and trunk lid--although I polish the door jambs by hand since the paint is thinner there. I figure if it's painted, it should be polished and coated.

Great topic, my OCD makes me clean these areas, even under the hood and trunk lid.

My BMW has tons of body cavity wax dripping out of every opening and crevice around the doors, under the hood, and trunk. It's a white car so it looks awful. Any suggestions for cleaning it up?

The most overlooked part of a vehicle and ultimately the most important too, especially in areas where salt is involved. I personally would have used some ONR to emulsify the dirt before rinsing but that is just merely a preference at this point. I've been a huge fan of Green Star for well over a year but Forst has won me over recently for unclogging my Griots ceramic spray coating. Without even using it yet, I'd almost bet that Wet Coat is better than Carpros offering because our buddy in Calgary is also a huge proponent of this fine line. Pan I have to say, thank you for choosing the simplest tools sometimes to show that you can achieve your goals without having the most powerful unit. Case in point, the 1.3 hp air blaster!

Great video! What can be used to remove scratches and dirt from shoes on the door?
@PanTheOrganizer9 ай бұрын
Do you mean the plastic door sills? There aren't miracles for deep scratches on plastics unfortunately. But if they are just some light scuffs, there is a cool trick that I show in this tutorial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/boK3eH-poqx8rZosi=u2V5Qon6Mso_xPmf&t=302

Pan I heard not to use GS on door hinges as it’s a degreaser and can remove it. Any thoughts

I was originally taking my car in a "premium" carwash shop but after initially seeing videos from Pan and Josh, i became the OC person who washes car twice a week! No regrets though. Now my youtube home is full of car detailing vids, thank you Pan for all the information you shared now and in the past (still on the process of rewatching old vids). One question, whats the minimum CFM required for a blower for it to be an effective dyring tool ? EGO blower is not available in our country but we have some available here but at a lower CFM compared to what youre using.

Thanks Mark! Welcome to my channel. You discovered one of the biggest car detailing channels on KZbin as we surpassed 880,000 subscribers and we have over 112 million views! I have been detailing for 26 years and I love to share my knowledge and passion with my viewers. You found the right channel to help you learn everything about detailing. For blowers it’s not only about CFM but more about the quality of the blower. See my blower video where I show my three car blowers: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqbTY3SqnJmeqZI

quite detailed as for me I just use a dedicated microfiber clothe for the door jambs and wipe
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
This method you do perhaps once a month or when you need a deeper clean. Once that’s done, regular washes are simple. A bit of rinseless wash and a quick wipe and you’re done.

Love the videos! Can you use a diluted version of the Koch Chemie Green Star with a ceramic coated car? For the door jams or stubborn spots?
@CMH19911 Жыл бұрын
thanks for the insight. Would you recommend applying a ceramic coating the door jamb area for ease of cleaning the next time?
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
Yes for sure. If you’re applying a coating to the paint, might as well do the door jambs at the same time.

GREAT VIDEO!!! I literally did this just a couple days ago. The brush to reach all the knooks and crannies is an awesome suggestion as I've been using an old wash mitt and my hands and fingers don't get into the area behind the hinges where the front fender meets the door. As a DIYer I would only be doing this complete of a job maybe 3-6 times a year so I wouldn't have a huge brush selection. How would you clean the brush in the best way to preserve it any "tricks of the trade" .Also, since I don't have a big budget and would prefer to not order online, is there a Walmart or Can. Tire available product that could be used as a Wet Application detailer spray that you could recommend? I use the very silicon spray product that you had in your hand for doing the weather strips and rubber seals around the door jab AND the door itself especially along the bottom. Never had a stuck door in many years of doing this yet and we get freeze and thaw cycle weather here between November and mid April quite often ( wet roads during the day and freezing at night equals wet then frozen weather strips).

Is diluted vinegar ok to use on car exterior/interior?

I'm amazed at how many detail shops forget this step or don't do a very good job at it. But those details separate the armatures from the professionals in my opinion.
