Great video, and a tip i got off of svrider is to attach the bolts and washers to a large zip tie. So that removal can be easy and you wont have to worry about counting them.

Great video. The filter you cleaned is actually just the strainer. There's an actual fuel filter in the black plastic part of the pump module. These seem to be only available from Suzuki for around £400/$500.

Mate this video is amazing, thank you for doing such an in-depth walkthrough. You've really helped take a load off. My bike has been sat a few years but landlords are selling the house and I have to move so I'm under pressure to get it sorted (amongst everything else!) I thought it would just be a case of reconnect battery, fresh fuel, and flush out some fuel lines/injectors. But after reading more I've realised what a nightmarish rabbit hole I'm going down. Of course the tank has gone rusty inside, I honestly didn't even know that was a thing until last week so it's been a massive learning curve figuring out how to deal with all this mess. I'm dreading the tank bit, but at least your video has demystified the pump/filter assembly and I can concentrate on just the cleaning bit rather than deciphering everything as I go. There are old forum posts but lots of them don't have the original photos anymore so this video really is invaluable! I'll be doing the external filter mod at same time and wasn't sure where I had to backflush the existing filter element but you've helpfully shown that (indirectly) in this video as well. It's really lessened my anxiety and I'm looking forward to this part of the task now so thank you once again. I hope you're doing well all these years later. Ciao from New Zealand!

I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I have an 03 SV1000S and was having what I thought to be fuel delivery issues. I found your video, went through the process of disassembling and cleaning the fuel filter and pump today and the bike runs better than when I bought it a few months ago.

Same pump for k1-k3 gsxr 600, for anyone who has that model. I took mine apart but accidentally broke the black plastic outer casing that fits and holds in place the actual pump. Plastic can turn brittle after many years of gasoline exposure. Just a tip. So be very careful when removing or inserting the pump and not forcing the plastic. Replacement if getting OEM is not cheap!

thankyou so much for this detailed vid! my SV is finally being resurrected after 2 or 3 years standing. i had the tank cleaned out and was going to leave it at that. until i came across this vid. Invaluable assistance! let's just say my pre-filter an sump was about 20x worse than yours! I just hope the main (high pressure) filter in the factory heat sealed part is OK. from forums people have backflushed this but they say it's rather fragile and can damage it so best do as a last resort....also appears to be a clever fix where you fit in a FI in-line filter (see the Vstrom fix). thanks again!

Is there a sock or mesh style "filter" that fits around the pickup from the factory? I recall years ago someone saying there was... If not do you know if adding a thin one wouldn't affect flow? Sure would be nice to have one especially for us folks who live in gulf climates and have to deal with both bad gas and calcium/corrosion causing us woes

In case anyone is doing this and also wanting to de-rust their tank like I am, here's a tip. I am making a plate to block off the hole but it turns out that the holes are not spaced evenly on the points of a pentagon as I thought they were. This is presumably to ensure that the pump can't be reinstalled out of rotation.
