BE CAREFUL CUTTING UR BUDGIES NAILS!!!! if you look closely to their nails you can see blood vessel going through each nail. YOU SHOULD NOT CUT TROUGH IT. a budgie might bleed to death. One drop of blood is not a lot for us humans but for a budgie THATS A LOT ok? Honestly id avoid clipping budgies nails and just let either the veterinarian do it or just let the budgies use those perches. YOU DO NOT want to risk it. Please pin this comment its so important :(

Yes it’s always very important to know how to trim a birds nails, and especially important to have an emergency vet number, and flour, cornstarch, or styptic powder to quench the bleeding.

I use waterproof sandpaper, say No.800, wrapping around one of the perches. The nail-sharpening paper files ordinarily sold for birds used at the perch are too coarse....and your budgie eats silica or quartz sands. Though expensive, a rough surfaced hard perch made for nail-sharpenig may be another good choice.

I was about to say! Thanks for clarifying, my birds don’t smell bad at all, they love getting in a big bowl with water, they look like kids jumping in the water, they do that often a week, if not Ill bring them to the shower for a quick mist that they usually enjoy. 😊

Great tutorial ! Always a fan of what you do. We would give Aqua a LEAFY BATH when he began refusing going inside the water itself. We wet the large leaf of romaine lettuce and placed it on a flat clean surface of his cage. He would sit on the lettuce leaf while wrestling with it and get wet at the same time. The spray mist bottle of water( gentle light mists) also helped cool him off during those hot summer days.

I definitely recommend regular check ups for budgies with an avian vet. Avian vets are few and far between but worth the extra drive and my birds enjoy the car trip with cages secured in back seat. Nail trimming can be safely done by the vet or vet tech.

My budgies loved it when I put basil in their bird bath. I think they used the basil scented water to make themselves smell nice 😂 It's always key to pay attention to what your bird likes or dislikes. If something really stresses them out and isn't medically necessarily.. don't do it! For example, my budgies' nails never got too long so I never had to put them through the procedure of trimming them. Take care birb enjoyers ❤

My birds never took to misting they were always uncomfortable with it, with a bird fountain they love it! They can do it on their own time and stretch their wings underneath it, I offer it 4 times a week.

Remember, sometimes birds are scared of water or prefer one way over another. You don’t want to scare your bird, but you also have to carefully expose them to their fear, or their fear will get worse and expand. Try spraying your bird, or putting more water on their veggies, to help them gradually adapt!
