This is the best pool filter cleaning video on KZbin. I have been using it for over a year. Also, if your spa and pool jets appear to be circulating water more inefficiently, it may be the clogged pool filter. Clean it thoroughly and watch the results. Thank you for this video! 😎

Very informative thanks for posting. After watching this I gained the courage to clean mine. First time in the four years we’ve had the pool and they were disgusting. In my defense the pressure in the system was still below the “clean” line. Anyways i was able to put everything back together and my house hasnt exploded yet so I must’ve done something right!

what you mean you have not cleaned your filter in 4 years! Holy moly!
@nielsendc1 Жыл бұрын
@@GuitarsAndSynths So I think its actually been three years but I’m guessing that still sounds like too long. When the guys installed the pool I was told to keep an eye on the pressure gauge on the filter. When it gets above a certain level it indicates it needs to be cleaned (build up of junk causing higher pressure). But the pressure when running the filter at our standard speed never goes up. The last time we cleaned it, it was after two or three years and there wasn’t all that much to clean. Thoughts? Do you think I should just clean it periodically regardless of a pressure reading?

I found an easy way to reinstall DE filter pads that needs to be shared. I don’t do videos so perhaps you can add this to one of yours. I was one of those who struggled with getting my Hayward filter pads realigned after taking them off the manifold. There was always one or two that would leak DE back into the pool on completion. I thought one or more may have torn but it turned out the filter pads weren’t seated properly to the manifold. I found it by running the pump in the backwash mode (cover off) and seeing water leaking from several of the connections. After disassembling I turned the manifold upside down, started with the short pad and worked clockwise outside to inside making sure all pads were well seated into the manifold and there correct spacers. The hardest part was getting the long bolt back into the manifold hole and it wasn’t that bad. All in all this was a much easier task than working from the normal position and no leaks or DE back into my pool. As a side note, I almost purchased a new filter set at $100 plus.

It might depend on how strong a pump you have, I don’t know, but for my pump it was about 30 seconds I think? Plus or minus 10 seconds. I could hear it filling up though so it’s not a sudden surprise.

Very informative, useful, and to-the-point video compared to the other ones. The only things I carried forward from the other ones were to wear gloves and to be aware of the pressure release mechanism to let out air and then water and be careful after switching on to avoid getting hit by an incorrectly installed filter dome cover. Otherwise, this video was a 10/10, and thanks again! My filter cleanup was a breeze with the help of this video despite it being my first time! Thanks Nick!

Hi Daisy, normally after a filter clean, a pump could take 3-5 minutes or so to prime. if it's not filling up and water shooting out of the air relief valve. you might need to look into re-priming the pump by putting a bucket of water into the pump.

Great video. 2 questions please. 1) Simple Green cleaner, are you worried about that cleaner getting back into the pool and effecting the chemical balance or hurting the plaster? 2) is there any type of lubricant you use on the O-ring when reinstalling to ensure a good seal? Or is it necessary? Didn't see that in the video. Thank you for your insight.
@geezer2tech1542 жыл бұрын
2. I'm certainly no expert as I did my first one today. I washed the upper and lower grooves where the O-ring rests with a forceful jet of water, though I guess you could use a scrub brush on it if you are really meticulous. I rubbed my palms with dish soap and worked my way around the O-ring, then rinsed and repeated one more time (if convenient, washing in a sink full of soapy water would probably be even better.) After it dried I coated a rag with silicone spray and worked this around the O-ring. It seemed to work very well. I saw someone use silicone spray in another filter cleaning video. Someone commented below that you should use silicone jelly from the pool store to avoid possible petroleum ingredients which may attack the O-ring, however, the Gunk Silicone Spray that I used says that it is compatible with all metal, rubber, and wood right on the front of the spray can.

after you twist the thing on the top to release the air, how do you know it's complete and that all air is out? also, do you turn it back to original start point before moving on to next steps? and mine has a lever - when I flip the lever to prime my lines, when the air is all out water spurts out the opposite side of the lever - it's not *this* lever I'm adjusting, it's the whole top piece, right? TIA
@Lick1Nuedtke6 жыл бұрын
good questions: Once all air is out of the system, water will start spraying out of the air release. go ahead and close it. if you have a lever, that's ok. turn on the pool (after the filter clean process) then flip open that lever until all air is out and water is spraying out. then close lever. good to go!
