How to Color on Wood Slices with Colored Pencils for Day 11 of 12 Day of Creative Christmas

Hi everyone! Whew, we are almost done! I am so excited about today's video - it's something I really love doing though I only usually do it around the holidays when we create handmade ornaments and it's coloring on wood slices! I love using Colored Pencils and maybe one day I'll try watercolor (hence the reason I used a watercolor ground on a couple of these but I didn't get to it this year -- an idea for next year!) I hope you enjoy the video today. I wear 5/8" plugs in my ears. I've been making my own earrings out of 5/8" wood dowels for the last 15 years, as I've found they're the most hygienic and comfortable. This makes me excited, I can add some color to my earrings!

These are so super cute wish I could color and blend like you, I also don't like the pencil marks when I color on paper, but wish I could master color pencils.

Colored Pencils are the hardest medium for me as well. I LOVE the look and texture but they just do not come as naturally to me as Copic markers or Watercolors. Plus, it's an exercise in patience because it also takes the most amount of time. LOL

did you put anything on top of the image, like a clear coat, to make it last longer?

Yes, I forgot to mention that! I seal these with a Crystal Kote or Krylon sealer in gloss or matte. Just depends on the look. Gloss actually looks really pretty on the wood slices and makes the coloring pop.

I did it myself. I used Woodglut woodworking plans for this.
