I'm severely colorblind which has always made art very difficult for me. I put it down for a long time due to getting frustrated and not knowing how to continue. Would this cause issues if I took your course? I've put art off for a long time because I wasn't sure how I'd be able to work though a course such as yours once color came into play. I figured I'd reach out because it looks awesome but wanted to see hit you up first to get your feedback. Thanks!! 🤘🤘

hi can i ask you what is exactly cell shading (since i am a total beginner) but i think it s a style of shading right ? and is there other kind of shading ?
@AkujinGG9 ай бұрын
@@linnnnne "Cel-shading" is just replicating the "style" of painting you see in animated shows. In those days they drew in "celluloid" sheets (cels) for every frame and then hand painted them with solid colors, hence the term.
@linnnnne9 ай бұрын
thank you for replying. but is there other style of shading beside this on and the realistic one ?@@AkujinGG

When talking about cell shading i think its very very important to talk about shape and forms. I would love to see a class on that, took me a long time to get good in shapes and lines, and when putting cell shadowns on 3D surfaces it is very important to know how to use shapes to properly translate the form you want to show. Each artist and style usually has a shape that works best for them, but it take a while to get that on your own.
@DiogoDiogoDiogoDiogo9 ай бұрын
Shapes and lines are very important in any drawing but are rarely mentioned. It doesn't matter how good the colors or shading are if the lines and shapes are bad

This was just what I was looking for! Every other cel-ehading tutorial just has multiply layer for shading, when I want to hand pick colors. Now I know to have each color portion on a seperate layer. Thank you!
@lonestarr14909 ай бұрын
You can combine the two approaches. Makes it easier to keep your shadows continuous and somewhat consistent over several different areas. A multiply shadow pass gives a good starting point, from where on you can adjust the shadow color for each element (and switch it back to normal mode in the process).

If you use AI like I do, both in Art and Coding, it's not even disgusting at all. I generate a bunch of images to find a general mood or pose for inspiration. I don't trace it but try to thumbnail the pose itself and compose it in the way it fits what I'm going for. Similarly, for coding, I don't have AI write code for me, I actively try to avoid having it put out something like that but rather explain broad concepts to me or give me some insights on workflows I should incorporate.

(To preface, someone may have already said this, but I haven't seen it yet. Sorry if this is repetitive!) For those working with CSP, you can achieve the "Outer Glow layer style" that he mentions! While yes, you could technically go around all your highlights with a soft airbrush, there is a faster method as well that will give you more even results! This handy tool is called: ~*.Gaussian Blur.*~ Gaussian blur works very similar to the blur tool in that it has to have a color or layer to interact with and it can bring your colors outward with a little transparency so it isn't as harsh. TUTORIAL--- #1 If, like him, you have your highlights in their own separate layer: Name the original layer (This is optional but it can be easy to get confused. You can do it by double-left-clicking on the layer in the layer navigator thingy.) and copy it. Name the copy something like "Blur". #2 On the Blur layer, click the 'lock transparent pixels button'. It's like having a clipping mask for only that layer. This is how we're going to change the color of the layer. Make the hue shift to a more red-orange and the saturation should be a little over halfway towards the pure red-orange. What we're trying to recreate is something called sub-surface scattering. You can see it in full effect if you put your hand in front of a bright light. This seems to be a much more noticeable effect on lighter skin tones, while not so much on darker ones. #3 GUASSIAN BLUR TIME BABYYYYYYYYY. Go to the 'Filter' tab at the top of your screen. Then, in the menu, click on 'Blur >'. Then click on 'Gaussian blur...'. Once you're in the pop-up menu, adjust it to your liking! Experiment and you'll find what works. #4 Take that Blur layer and move it to be under the highlight layer. #5 BASK IN YOUR NEW SKILLS AND CONQUER!

you can also use a multiply brush tool this allows you to go over blush and water or oil effects (lets you respect the base color, lines and add multiple hot cold shades) and add brush tools to make beams of light (with add you can make a surf bord look waxed and chrome metals for example) set an overlay as a filter and the entire image pops (makes foreground an background look like the same environment) the lighten brush also colors lines incredibly well because your lines are the darkest color lighten will only touch the lines verry few layers if any are needed with these tools

that's been my main coloring style for years, i find it helps me maintain a reasonably correct rendering without getting lost in the nitty-gritty of the shading, which often make me lose focus. Plus, it takes me far less time to render this way (for obvious reasons) hence allowing me to make a lot more artworks. One thing that works for me is, instead of shadowing dropping the base color but using no fusion modes, i'll use a indigo or magenta-wine color (a dark, slightly desaturated purple basically) as my base shadow color on a clipped layer set to multiply and around 50% opacity (though it varies based on what i need the shadows to do)

I think a good understanding of value and shadow/highlights are first giving your eye the chance to understand what is a base value vs a shadow/highlight value. Try to put your colors in black and white and see how the values are set in comparison to your other shadow/highlight colors. It also gives you the chance to limit those color palettes as you are shading/highlighting. Understanding your form will help where you place the shadows and highlights as well. Hope that helps!
