HOLY! WHAT THE HECK!?!? I;ve been toying with green screen compositing (poor man's virtual production) in Unreal Engine, trying to get a feel for a good workflow ... this just BLEW MY MIND! This completely changes my workflow.

If you are rendering as a multilayer exr from UE5, then I'd recommend not importing them on the edit page, but to import them as loaders in the edit page and then use the split exr script to shuffle the passes inside Fusion. Also, instead of using CST, use the OCIO colorspace node, it has more stuff for better compositing workflows.

Thank you so much Casey for this excellent tutorial.I learned a lot of new things. I am working both with Unreal and DaVinci for some time and think it is amazing what's possible. In the beginning it was a lot of try and error. The tutorials from William Faucher then also helped me a lot regarding the right settings for render in Unreal engine before the material comes to DaVinci. Did so far one Unreal scene in fusion with fast noise texture, 3D image plane and planar tracker. Was good. Looking forward to do more (and yes oak milk)

Hi this is amazing. Really finding fusion a good way to go for dealing with unreal output. What input color space do I select in fusion for a default exr output from unreal without having changed any color space options within unreal. What is the default color space from unreal because you mentioned "if you are using the aces work flow" which I haven't set up. And secondly, what's the best way to set up the exr output in unreal to be aces.

Just starting the video. This is going to be a good one. I need a hat to hold on to. Getting a proper computer Friday so I'm diving into Unreal. I think that's a good path for filmmakers who can't come up with the big bucks to run a traditional production. Plus it's super cool so heeeere we go......

Ok, wow. I thought my EXR renders were broken and deleted them all. I've been rendering in Rec709, and been frustrated that some DR grades look terrible. This is a golden video, Casey!!! 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍

in fusion, why do you work before the color space transform node? wouldn't it be best to work in davinci wide gamut + davinci intermediate?

Great one, Casey.... I didn´t know nothing about exr files and this integration before your video. But let me add another tip to this great tutor. If you add another mediaout and take the output of the ship matte(for example) in to the input of this media out. You can use it in the color page. Just add a input (in color page) and select that this input will came from that mediaout you created and use it like a mask. Tks, Casey.

I would love to know how to do this! I've rendered EXRs with object ID pass and in Fusion I've added the cryptomatte node, and selected my object, but then do I take the output from the cryptomatte node to the mediaout in fusion? And then once adding a second source input in the color page, how do I make it the mediaout from fusion? Looking for clarification. Thanks!
@RepaireroftheBreach
@RepaireroftheBreach Жыл бұрын
I think I got it mostly working. But when I have my object on an alpha and send it to the mediaout, when Im back in the color page that object comes in with a black background. I cant get the black background to go away, like when I feed it through the layer mixer to combine my object on top of the main background. But for some reason, if I just have the object ID go directly to the output, back in the edit page the black is an alpha and works normally. So I have to create two clips in the timeline, one for the object ID and one for the main background, The drawback here is that Resolve needs to read the clip twice during playback bringing everything to a halt. Would love to figure out out to retain that alpha on my object ID from fusion through the color grading on the color page!

Great video as always! Just an idea for a video, would be cool a tutorial about 3d tracking your footage (maybe greenscreen with trackers?) and then import the.fbx camera to Unreal to make the background or add foreground elements. I see a lot of videos with AE(+ Cinema 4D) but nothing with Fusion. Additionally, would be amazing to see the full workflow from going to the Unreal .exr back to Fusion for compositing then grading🙏 legend

If I am grading it in Color and it is all done, now I am working crypto in fusion, How will i have that affects from COLOR in fusion ? how will I have a combined result at the end ? It was so easy in Nuke. but This Davinci is a indeed a great tool and it is little complicated. Just look at that long process of extracting Cryptomatte and it nuke it is just one simple node and here you have it.

Hey Casey, your video was incredibly helpful. It’s surprisingly complicated to find usable information about the process of rendering in Unreal and "utilizing" in Davinci. I am currently trying to render an Ambient Occlusion Pass from Unreal using an Additional Post Process Material. However, when I have the layer as a loader, I have no idea how to access the information in it. Do you have any suggestions? Best regards and thanks for your work. By the way, to answer your question at the end, I am currently a oat milk drinker haha.

Awesome video, you are really moving into the VFX stuff in a big way since last Resolvecon, very cool. I'm still a Fusion newb and just wanting to start out Unreal Engine if my 8 yr old PC can handle it, I'm not sure, it struggles in Fusion already. but I didn't see the link to Reactor download, there are several sites it seems to download it, wondering which one were you going to link or did I just not see it? Thanks as always for putting out such great and innovative stuff, you are the reason I didn't give up when I first switched over to Resolve.

Hm.. that crypto matte thing looks really useful. I would love to see one of those great tutorials on how to use Unreal for generating the EXRs. Because the youtube videos I have found tend to be very disorienting. Leaving out crucial beginner questions about how to do stuff. Basically, in both Blender and Unreal, I would love to see how to export EXRs and camera data so I can do 3D work in those apps and composite in my 2D handdrawn animation in Fusion and keep both the depth of the pixels, the normals and cryptomattes and all that fun stuff and have the fusion camera moves match the 3D app camera. If anyone knows about videos showing relevant workflows, I would be all ears. Because I see all this potential power but no good guides on how to wield it. :) :)

I love your videos they are great, but I think your thumbnails are not very good comparing to your videos, They look so complicated with somany components and don't share the correct information to the viewers, they should be catchy and should be understood within a few milliseconds, maybe try removing text from it ,use contrast colors , green & red or blue & yellow/orange etc, I'll be happy to help you out
