In this webinar, we’ll discuss the various options when it comes to controlling and limiting engine rpm. You’ll learn about soft cuts, hard cuts, fuel and ignition limiting, and their effect on the engine.
For the webinar lesson, we’ll be using a Nissan 350Z fitted with a Link G4+ ECU to demonstrate knowledge that is applicable to more than just this specific setup.
Due to the current global situation we though over the next few weeks we'd help keep you guys out there entertained and release some of these otherwise 'paid access' webinars to you for FREE to help pass the time.

I'm reflash tuning with HP Tuners and the only options I can find for launch control/2 step options are under fuel, rpm stationary limits. This is obviously a fuel cut. The engine is supercharged and does seem to suffer with fuel cut at launch. As well as when traction control is off or in sport mode, this stationary rpm limit I set seems to go out the window and does not exist, just like the stock one. The car is a manual as well.

Do you ever control max rpm with drive by wire throttle closing rather that fuel or ignition cuts?

Andre curious if you were to build another shop drag race Evo 8/9 what would be your ECU of choice?
@hpa101
@hpa101 2 жыл бұрын
There isn't really a straight answer to this as it depends on a few factors that are specific to the tuner and the budget, but for Andre, a MoTeC would make sense as it is one of the platforms he has used the most in his career via customer cars and his own projects (DOCILE ran an M800 from memory which is probably how he got started with them). Now with that said, a different tuner might have a different answer, and that would still be 100% the right choice for them too. There are really more good options than bad ones out there these days and with that first sentence in mind you really go for what the situation calls for rather than just sticking to one brand blindly - Taz. www.hpacademy.com/previous-webinars/120-selecting-a-suitable-ecu-for-your-application/?

Acelerate and when going fast, starts the rev limiter😂😂😂

Yeah good info, but smoothest rev limit isnt for everyone. The drifters that want a coarser sounding and rev limit which may also help stay in drift a little longer aren't catered for in this explanation. Anyway I can likely figure it out. Smooth rev limiit is so OEM [negative connotation intended]

Well that was way more complicated than I was expecting. Great tutorial though. Particulalry helpful considering I have a Vipec v88 which I guess is what a Link G4+ is based off because the software and settings are pretty much identical. Thanks Andre.

So oxygen sensors read oxygen content, right? If you're on the rev-limiter and using spark cut or fuel cut would the sensor read lean assuming fueling was actually as desired? I'm guessing to just ignore these readings and just tune that area of the map for normal driving right? I would assume the fueling for high load should be fine for the rev-limiter.

Hi good day don't know if it's true or not but a friend of mine owns a skyline R32 and rev limiter was used on fuel cut but spark burnt a hole in the pistons so I was told it's better to cut spark then fuel

Cutting 1 cylinder from a 4cyl engine cuts more than 25% of the power as you are still left with the frictional losses from those bearings and piston rings.
@hojnikb
@hojnikb 4 жыл бұрын
power generated will be 3/4, but losses obviously won't scale, since as you said, you have to lift the valves, move the piston etc...

What are everyone's thoughts about drive-by-wire cars closing throttle for a rev limit?

What's high limit and high restart limit?
@hpa101
@hpa101 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the platform, but your rev limit is your high limit (could be soft or hard depending on the platform), and your restart limit is where your engine will start operating again. So say you have a 9000rpm limit and a 8700rpm restart, if you hit 9000rpm it would cut your engine until it drops back below 8700rpm. If you are an HPA member and need more help with this from a tutor, make sure you post up on the members only forum over on www.hpacademy.com - Taz.

@@hpa101 thanks, also what what cause an automatic car to keep hitting the rev limiter and not dropping until you release the gas paddle? This happens mostly when I brake boost? Could it be the transmission slipping?

I know this was a live class but I'm hoping I can get some insight on something to do with rev limiter. I have a fully built 15+WRX with the FA20DIT making 500whp. I have an IAG stage 3 Extreme Closed deck with IAG Stage 5 cylinder head package. (So fully ported heads with full valvetrain upgrades and 1/2" headstuds. My heads setup is built to rev way past the stock limits buy my tuner left the stock rev limiter on. My question is how bad is it for the engine to hit that limiter? Or is it even bad for it to hit it sense my rev limiter could have been raised another 700rpm

@@_wrx_WHPFaDIT ever have any issues? I wouldn't think it would be a problem, especially if it really is the factory limit, it should be a soft then hard fuel cut. If you're on an aftermarket ECU, it could be either fuel or ignition cut, in that case it would be wise to determine which, although those heads are probably pretty rugged.

How does it work with on the fly control of the limit with a multiple position rotary switch? Would you just setup another general purpose table with one axis tracking switch position (voltage ref)?
