Many thanks! You saved me from an endless stream of trying new combinations to get it to work. Very frustrating. I knew the mic was working but it wouldn't work on the H4n. Well done!

Thank you oh so much. I got a Smartlav+ to improve my audio quality so I can film in the place I've been living in for over a year, but couldn't because the echo made my videos almost unwatchable... Wanted a lavolier mic to mitigate that enough to get to acceptable levels, so I got the Smartlav+ and then found out it works best with an iPhone and worst with a Samsung phone. Guess which one I had. So, one video of less echoey but more distorted sound later, and I went ahead and got the Zoom H4n Pro, but after it got here I found it didn't work together. Interestingly enough, I actually already HAD an adapter that came with a cheaper lavolier mic I got some time ago, but I tried that and it didn't seem to work either, so I ordered the official Rode adapter. After seeing you video, I pulled out the other adapter, went into the settings, turned the plug-in power to ON and viola! The Rode Smartlav+ is recognized, and if I set the recording level to 40 I eliminate most background static while maintaining a clean, natural sounding voiceover where I can get energetic without it crackling out on me.

I seem to remember that plugging an external mic into the 3.5mm socket on the H4n cuts out the internal mics. Is that true? I'd like to record in 4CH mode with the lavalier on my main speaker and the internal mics picking up my interview questions for a podcast.
@TheWorldofPierre4 жыл бұрын
Hello. Yes it does. If you buy an XLR adaptor you can plug the mic on one of the XLR.

Sorry mate I cannot think of anything other than the obvious stuff you have probably checked already. Take it to the store who sold you the mic or the zoom, they might be able to help.

thnx alot for this vid! very helpfull! can i record with this setting on the smartlav, and on the zoom h4 built in microphone at the same time?
@TheWorldofPierre5 жыл бұрын
Hello mate, I don't think you can. As soon as you plug a mic in the line in it will disable the built-in mic. If you want to use the built-in mic and the SmartLav, I think you can buy an XLR adaptor and connect it to one of the XLR inputs to use it on the 4 channels mode.

Is possible use 2 smartlav on h4n pro ? same time?
@TheWorldofPierre6 жыл бұрын
Hello mate. I have been asking myself the same question. I need to do an interview with 2 people soon. It looks possible. You will need to buy some adaptors and use the XLR tracks Right and Left. Have a look at this video below. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJWWlGeaq8-leZo I will try to do a video about it in the next few weeks :)
@MIMCKMedia6 жыл бұрын
you can even use 3 mics because the XLR inputs are mono. So its one mic stereo on the Mic input and two mics on each XLR Channel.
