Another extremely well made video with easy to understand comparisons between Infinite and past games. I especially liked your explanation about the different response curves between H3, Halo Reach/4, and Infinite and what makes them different and why that difference makes Infinite feel "off". Your possible solutions at the end - options to tweak the response curve with a setting that we can toggle to choose a response curve that is like H3 or Reach/4 would be such a great addition to really help. Would it fix everything? No. But it'd be a step in the right direction for getting Infinite to play better. Thank you so much for making these videos. I sincerely hope 343 watches these and realizes that the quality of life for Infinite would be so much better if they spent time implementing some of these solutions.

Ever since the flights I complained Infinite feels extremely inconsistent. When I want to do fine aim adjustments I'm doing 360s, when I want to do quick 180s and spins, it's the slowest turn ever. It's almost like trying to fight a teammate with friendly fire on. This video pretty much confirmed everything I was speculating and cleared up everything I was confused about. While I also admire all the work put into the entire video series, it's absolute horse shit that we have to put so much time and research tuning and adjusting a game that should feel "decent" right out of the box. I've never had to research and tune a game as much as I have with Infinite. Lastly I'm glad you brought up the point about the settings feeling different with different controllers. I've tried this game with two Series S controllers, my Elite 2 controller, a PS4 controller, and M&KB, and every single controller feels entirely different. Ironically the PS4 controller feels the best on PC 😂

Despite all the issues with controller that you pointed out here, I feel like I have much more success playing online on a controller than on M&K. I have 300 hours on M&K in this game, and I am always more accurate/consistent on controller. Winning a 1v1 on M&K is a nightmare. If anything, I think M&K needs a buff somehow.

This is a good point but does not hit the message home enough... Im a top 30 player on MNK right now 05/24/2022 GT iikentron. I have an overall ranked accuracy of 45% (not bad for PC not the great even amoung my peers) I consistiantly get destroyed by controller players in crossplay. Even the top Rated players struggle to keep up with controllers and they are much better players than I am. Not to call a player out or anything but here is an example of someone I've played in crossplay GT: NATEMART2 this is a Diamond 3 player using controller with a lower rank, lower KDA but a higher accuracy without doing much research I can tell you from experiance the players I run into consistantly have much higher accuracy than I have ever been able to accomplish. controller players can consistantly hit 60% + accuracy. I can count on one had how many times I've been able to do that in a fully played out game. It is so impossable to keep up with aim assist and no amount of controller being able to turn around faster will outweigh that strangth. The highest rater PC MNK players in infinate have not been able to breach the 2k CSR threshold at all most of the top players have left for other games because there is no point in playing the game on MNK.

It is just that halo is not made for M&K. Consistantly tracking a target is hard enough on M&K. Now you have the character acceleration being much faster than any other halo. Personally i think Infinite feels awful on controller. Sure it is better than M&K, but it is very jarring how bad it is compared to any other halo. It is very unintuitive and clunky. Maybe being on an old console adds to that because my brother played with controller on a pc and said it felt much better.

Yes, content has been added and it is in a better state than it was at Season 1, but the core issues still persist. Especially on controller: it feels clunky and unresponsive with random ramping up of your aim when trying to course correct it still. I would use MnK but Halo is not Halo on MnK to me. It must be played on controller. Any other game I’m using MnK except Halo. This was a great video that broke down what is happening under the hood and it was very easy to understand. One of the best videos about this topic. I am passionate about this specific topic since I have seen so many wrong things about it that have messed up with my gameplay. I personally got to the same conclusion when I analyzed the sens among the different Halos. The sens curves of all Halos suck, especially now more that we have better gamepads and less input lag, they maybe worked back in the day with older hardware, but right it it should be linear or close to it. But even more important, the games should have an option to customize the sens curves, that would help veery much. In fact that's what I do too, I modified the sens curve of my controller and now MCC and Halo Reach feels and controls so much better, the aim assist still messes up with my aim and brain a little bit, but I have a lot better accuracy now. I tried to do it too on Halo 3 but the sens curve in that game is so messed up I just can't make it to be better. I also wished I could control the steepness of the curve, where that steepness should start, how big the steepness should be.
@hungryyellow21192 жыл бұрын
I posted this on Reddit but I'll share it here too: It can be hard to nail down a comfortable aim sensitivity. Either you feel like your cross-hair slips off enemies, or it just isn't quite responsive enough to maintain tracking. The solution? The aim assist test. Here's how you do it: Load into training mode and set bots to stationary and non-combatant. Now position yourself short-to-mid range from the bot (effective range of the sidekick). You'll then want to start pacing left and right perpendicular to the bot, attempting to keep your cross-hair on them at all times. If you're finding that your cross-hair keeps over-adjusting and slipping off the opposite side of the bot, your sensitivity is too high. If your cross-hair feels like it's fighting aim assist friction and adjustments keep lagging behind, your sensitivity is too low. The goal is to adjust your sensitivity so that you can consistently keep the cross-hair on the enemy bot while moving left and right at all times.

Fine, but no matter what, if someone step near the target you are shooting, current aim assist WI fight against you to acquire the new target. Also, for what I did try, unless you have an elite 2 with smooth option, there is not a perfect option and you either choose a low sens setting to stay on target, or fast one for quick responses (but good look using anything that's not the br)

Aiming in Infinite has felt wrong since day one. I knew something fundamentally changed in the coding of the game. Infinite feels more like Killzone Shadow Fall than it does Halo. For those who played the PS4 Exclusive, you'll know what I mean when I say aiming feels "HEAVY". Infinite feels like you're dragging your feet the entire time you're playing. I feel like a tank that is at a disadvantage every time someone gets behind me because of how slow it feels to turn. I understand Spartans are heavy super soldiers, but it never felt like this before. Playing Halo 2 back to back with Infinite is nauseating. Halo 2 Is so much faster but has so much more precision to my inputs with much less effort. Infinite always feels twitchy on the smaller movements (like while trying to keep the sentinel beam on a spartan for more than a second) and larger movements (like spinning, _thats a good trick_) feel way too drawn out. I just end up straining my hand muscles, with all the micro movements I have to constantly make to compensate. As you expertly explained in this video, I finally understand why it has been feeling like this. It is such a shame, I really want to love Infinite, but this is the major reason, why every time I play I'd rather just be playing Halo 1,2, or 3 instead.

I should have link you the options graph I had for Infinite to save you the effort of having to draw your own. Good job explaining it though. The spike in acceleration is straight vertical. It only looks tilted because I don't test smaller than 1% increments and I let Desmos' table draw the lines. Stick input won't influence the ramp up, but for sensitivities 5 and lower, you will turn faster with more stick input past that threshold. This is noticeable in the sensitivity tests in Infinite. 'Max Input' is a bit misleading because of that and just denotes at what point along the curve acceleration triggers and only 'caps' after 5 sens. It did take a few years of requests from the community to up the sensitivity for Destiny 2. Doubling the sensitivity cap, or doubling the existing values(10 sens equals 720d/s) would really solve most players' issues with the controls in Infinite. As your stretched graph comparisons showed, it would pretty closely match Halo 3 if the overall sensitivity were similar.

Ok, don't wanna complain but as a m&k it feels like a complete nightmare to fight players on a controller. It's literally one of the most difficult fps shooters I've played and it definitely doesn't feel like a casual game from a m&k perspective. Every 1v1 feels so incredibly difficult you have to sweat your ass off to hit your shoots and to kill someone. Fighting with precision weapons puts you in a massive disadvantage that's why I feel like I always gravitate to the assault rifle and closer ranges even though I prefer br and sidekick. I prefer big team battle because you can catch more players of guard unlike 4 v 4 where I pretty much get completely rolled on and Im pretty much a dead weight on my team quite often compared to other fps shooters. This game really makes me wish to buy myself a controller but unfortunately I haven't held a controller in my hands for so long that even if I had one I wouldn't be able to do anything with it.

"because of Infinite's adhesion, drift is actually good" this makes perfect sense now. 24:52 I mean no conflict, but I do not advise high acceleration. Halo Infinite works best on low sensitivities from 4-6, (see most pros sensitivities). If you use these settings, you will be pegging the stick when aiming in a gunfight. You don't want acceleration to throw off your aim.

He is mainly just advocating for overall people to use Sensitivities that feels a little more like older Halo games. A lot of Pro Players actually feel like their aimer is off due to Halo Infinites acceleration curve. He isn't saying to increase the acceleration overall. He just wants people to be able to choose different graphs of their aimer so it can fit their needs. Remember that everyone isn't a pro player and that everyone has their own preference of settings. Someone that I know would benefit a lot from a higher acceleration graph would be a player called "A live Dinosaur" he isn't a pro player. He just plays what's fun for him and he mainly plays 10 sens. Again he is just advocating for different graphs. Not to change the overall games aimer because he knows a lot of people already feel pretty comfortable with the aim settings that they already have.

Response curve: Linear Looking Extra yaw/Pitch: 0 ADS Extra yaw/Pitch: 0 Deadzone: 0 (If my deadzone is any higher than 2-3) I buy a new controller as a low deadzone is important for these settings) Max input threshold:2(But in this game 2 still means I have to go to the edge of the controller stick to reach my max speed.This is also where my extra yaw would come into play if I had any on.) Looking Yaw Speed: 480/500 Looking Pitch Speed:480/500 ADS Yaw Speed:110/500 ADS Pitch Speed:110/500 Looking Turning Ramp-up Time:0 LookingTurning Ramp-up Delay:0 ADS Turning Ramp-up Time:0 ADS Turning Ramp-up Delay:0 The result is a brutally unforgiving playstyle where every action you make must be intentional because every action you make is picked up on my the stick. The result is more consistency, intentional precision as well as accuracy, and more control over your aim. It takes time and effort to adjust, but now I basically can't play fps games without at least a deadzone and a Linear response curve option. I was trying everything in my power to change the setting on halo infinite to make this game work for me,but it feel so damn slow. I went from touching the thumbstick resulting in sharp movements to having to drag my stick across the entire radius in order to aim the game just doesn't feel smooth enough for me to aim in it precisely especially against players using mouse and key I just feel outmatched and wish I could have that fine precision in this game.

Love the vids man, thanks for such an in depth explanation, very illuminating. One question I have tho, towards the end you say how 10 sensitivity is twice as fast as 1 sensitivity and everything under 5 sensitivity has slower turn speed but 5-10 has the same max turn speed. My question is what’s the difference between 5 Sensitivity and every sensitivity between that and 10? Thanks again
@criticalinfinite49452 жыл бұрын
The sensitivity settings progress as normal, until acceleration kicks in. Without acceleration, there are marginal increases in speed, with each setting slightly faster than the previous. Without acceleration, if you push the stick to the edge, 10 sensitivity will turn about twice as quickly as 1. However, once acceleration kicks in, every setting above and including 5 will scale you up to the same max turn speed (360 degrees per second). So, when "pegging" you won't notice a difference between 5 and 10. You will notice a difference before acceleration kicks in. Hope this helps!

I was hoping that the newer handheld gaming PC can utilise this method, as many of those do not have trackpad (steam deck), and the right thumb stick is used as a mouse but move at a uniform speed. It's a shame that most of the strategy/point-n-click adventure/RPG/old FPS games would be annoying to play if the pointer moves uniformly. But one issue though: how are we going to draw an arch on screen with the thumbstick? It might be very conter-intuitive (for example drawing a smiley face with bullet mark in CS)

So... I get that you can't change the shape of infinite's curve, but the curves stretch vertically with increased sensitivity, correct? Throwing together a graph of curves for infinite at different sensitivities like you've done for comparison across-games might be really helpful for visualization/approximation of previous halo titles. So is there a sensitivity that would scale the curve upwards and approximate previous halo titles curves? IE halo 3's 4 sensitivity is approximated most closely by halo infinites 8? 6? I have no idea. That would just leave the issue of acceleration, which takes a fixed amount of time to reach maximum turn speed.

I really wish Halo Infinite had linear response curve. I play Linear on Apex and COD. I like the raw input, I believe Halo CE and 2 used raw input on the OG Xbox.

Went from 60% in halo 5 to 40% in halo infinite. Funny thing is the pros keep asking for less aim assist. Its heavy when the reticle is over the player, but almost non existent even if the reticle is right next to the player.

can you do a breakdown of the M+K settings and how exactly they modify the curve?? Because the MK sensitivity settings seem to give much better control of the curve but the short description of the specific settings is just not descriptive enough when compared to the actual range of possibilities! It's like they made these complex settings but were only limited to 140 characters for the descriptions? And it sucks because they have settings ranging from 0-100, 1-800, 0.1-10 and 0.1-2.0... and it's real easy to mess with the sliders enough to just really screw shit up when you think it might be better lol?
@criticalinfinite49452 жыл бұрын
So, the response curve is exclusive to the controller. While using mkb, you bypass all of this entirely. I am going to be talking about mkb, but most people (myself included) prefer to turn off mouse acceleration entirely. I think raw input is the best when it comes to mkb, which is suspicious, because it seems like that's impossible. Infinite handles mkb poorly and I haven't fully investigated it yet. Whether it's mouse smoothing or built in acceleration that you can't turn off there's something wrong with mkb. I use 1.6 sensitivity, and turn everything else off.

Could you please add the curves/info for Halo 5 and Halo 2A? Is the curve in 2A like 4/Reach, or 2?
@MrPronGogh932 жыл бұрын
H5, h2a (online) and h4 use the same engine and stats from halo reach.
@criticalinfinite49452 жыл бұрын
I don't have the curve from halo 5, but I'm almost certain it was the same as infinite. As for h2a, there's 2 games here. The campaign is literally og halo 2 with updated graphics. So much so, the original glitches are intact. The response curve for the campaign is literally the same as halo 3 with a much higher max input threshold. As for h2a multiplayer, as @MrPronGogh93 put it .... Literally just reskined halo 4.

How does the Axial deadzone acts the same way as the Inner deadzone too in a way that it can reduce/remove drift as well in Halo Infinite?

I know this wont help Infinite feel like MCC either way like you said,but i've been trying to find out how the deadzone options in Infinite scale to those that they added in MCC. If as stated in this video 12.5 in Infinite is equal to the default in MCC which is 12, youd think that a 6 in MCC would simply scale to somewhere around 6/6.5, or a 3 as 3/3.5. However if I try to set my deadzones using a scale similar to this in Infinite it just feels like the game isnt registering my inputs as if my deadzones are way to high compared to MCC. Im curious to know if the scaling is just way off somwhere so I actually need completely different settings, or if this is somehow also purely down to the issues surrounding awful response curve.
@criticalinfinite49452 жыл бұрын
So, the new version of mcc allows you to tweak your deadzones over the original games. There might be some differences, but the menu seems to work in percentage values. In modern mcc, the default deadzone tends to be 3. Infinite should correlate, so 3 in mcc and 3 in infinite should be equivalent. However back in the day when these games initially released, they had much higher deadzones because controllers weren't as accurate. Reach and 4 initially had deadzones of ".125" which would turn into "12.5" with the modern games. A deadzone of 6 in infinite would work out to 0.06 because that's the decimal conversion. However, the new games of the mcc have been overridden. You can now customize your controller in ways the game never originally allowed you to. This new system replaces the old one. In theory, if you set your deadzones to 3 in the mcc, then 3 in infinite should line up well. Mind, the curve is different so Infinite can't feel anything like mcc. Long story short: mcc overrides the classic aim, to give you more options the game never originally intended to.
@oGxSKiLZz1172 жыл бұрын
@@criticalinfinite4945 Thankyou for the info, its strange though as the deadzones in Infinite really dont feel like they line up with the ones in MCC. For example in MCC my inner deadzone is usually set to 3 or 4 on all titles and my axial is set to 5 or 6, however if I pick these setting in Infinite they feel way too high and I have to push my stick much further than I do in MCC, most noticable with the Axial as around 5/6 feels perfect for me on MCC but in Infinite I can feel myself having to force myself off the horizontal line to aim diagonal at all like its very sticky. My original therory was that since the MCC deadzone settings adjust in 1's while the Infinite ones are in 0.5's that 6 in MCC for example might actually be 3 in Infinite, though your video has made me think otherwise. It just raises more questions though as my current Infinite settings are 1 inner and 3.5 axial, which (while still not perfect) is the only way ive got it to feel even slightly like my options in MCC.

@@oGxSKiLZz117 so what are you settings in game that you use for move and look deadzones? All of them bc I’m literally just pissing myself off at this point trying to figure out how to get the game to feel like MCC
@oGxSKiLZz1172 жыл бұрын
@@PkmnTrnAnt it still doesnt feel that much like MCC, at least my settings, and im constantly slightly tweaking the aim stick, but these are the settings I usually tend to come back to: Look accelleration: 5 Move thumbstick: Center Deadzone - 10 Max Input - 10 Axial - 5 Look Thumbstick: Center Deadzone - 0/0.5 Max Input - 10 Axial - 3 It still doesnt feel great but it feels less bad than default, id also potentially recommend upping your "zoom level sensitivity" to about 1.4 on everything up to 3x, then from 5x onwards set it to 1.2, as the default setting of 1.0 is lower than the zoom sensitivity in previous games, somewhere around 1.3 to 1.5 is closest to the classic games I believe.

Go on the app, set "real diagonal" in order to have the og controller feeling, then set "smooth" for the right stick in order to have more control over little adjustments. That's the close you can go for the classic feeling.

Is it just me or does lag with the host of the game (online) make you have to lead your shots? I've seen on my own gameplay and on killcams where my shots are behind the target even though I know I am on target. Are the weapons hitscan or not in this game?
@jackcolson47452 жыл бұрын
It's kind of stupid for 343 to choose to go this route but never explain it. But anyways here it is. All bullet weapons are projectile in halo, always has been, however, in halo infinite they are all so fast that they seem hitscan. You have to lead with the sniper and br at long range by such a short distance that it goes unnoticed and players confuse it for desync. This issue is further exacerbated by the instantaneous movement acceleration and the low bullet magnetism.

@@Septentrional33 Please do your research before telling someone that they are wrong. Every single weapon in Halo has been projectile based. The ones that seem hitscan just had projectile speeds much faster than the tick rate of the game, so they were _technically_ hitscan. In fact, if you run the old games on the MCC at a high enough frame rate, you can witness the moving projectiles of weapons that were previously thought to be hitscan by viewing them in slow motion in theater mode.
