the older games track too. its more then just slowing down. so that debunks like half this video. also i dont like the way you praise noobie things like having a huge reticule and getting free headshots is good. that is bad
@criticalinfinite49452 жыл бұрын
No, previous halo games did not affect the players aim without direct input from the player. The player was the only one who could move the reticle. Next week's video might be explicitly about reticles, but the short of it is that size isn't, the only thing thats changed. depending on the weapon and range of engagement, the reticles of infinite can be actively missleading. I.e. having your reticle placed corectly and still missing.
@Kevin-uj4uu2 жыл бұрын
@@criticalinfinite4945 yes it can effect the reticule. want to add me and test right now? Mister Arbiter. we will go and customs and test you will see. as long as you are moving your spartan or aiming, you will be tracking the other player. and considering you dont stand still very often in halo i wouldnt count that as direct input from the player. as long as you are not afk you will track players with your reticule. you can test by moving forward with one player and the other player moves across that players reticule. your spartan will start to turn towards him or go in splitscreen and test yourself

@Kevin-uj4uu2 жыл бұрын
@@criticalinfinite4945 yeah thats it man. how is that not moving the reticule though? the reticule sticks to it thats tracking to me. just not on the level of infinite. you said the other games only slow down sensitivty and that video is proof its a lot more then slowing sensitivity move in a straight line and a target will move past your reticule and it starts to turn into him. thats the reticule tracking him
@criticalinfinite49452 жыл бұрын
In the video i tried to make a distinction between a "sticky" reticle and a "magnetized" reticle. What adhesion does in that video is translate reticle "friction" into a rotation in player movement. It's like a planet catching a commet with it's gravity. As you move your retice across an enemy by walking past them, reticle "slowness" kicks in causing an elipse in your movement. If that setting were raised to the max, you would strait up orbit enemy players in a perfect circle. The question is: who threw the comet? like i said, the game isnt moving the reticle around, it instead moves YOU around. The game isn't moving the reticle, YOU ARE. You're just using the left stick to do it.

@@criticalinfinite4945 yep ... Thanks for making this. I'm a controller player and Halo Infinite's controls feels terrible to me... All this time I thought it was just the servers but that doesn't explain why I dominate in tactical slayer. I have a feeling that the game adjusts the aim assist behind the scenes depending on performance or some other weird metric because some games shots just land with perfects everywhere and other games feel like it takes 6+ bursts to get a kill, with perfectly lined up shots at close range especially doing absolutely nothing... and this is regardless of what server I am on. I actually don't mind the small reticles... but what I do mind is how clearly the game is trying to aim for me and it's a terrible experience. The way the legacy games did this was just the way to go. Another vital change that I noticed is that when looking down, the head "rolls" forward. This allows players with height control to peak down a ledge under them as if their neck grew out to the size of an elite. I wonder if this rolling causes issues with aim as well. I wish there was something we could do to make them fix this, but I honestly doubt it.

Aim assist existing in the same environment as m+kb is cancer. Aim assisted players will always be less reliant on skill than m+kb. Consoles and controllers are relics from the late 90's-early 2000s when PCs and the internet were more niche. They're relics that refuse to die b/c giant corporations are operating on the sunk-cost fallacy. And I grew up w/ Halo on the Xbox. And most consumers are unable to realistically anaylze that no game will ever feel good with 2 entirely different input systems co-existing. It's not Infinite's fault. It's simply what would ALWAYS happen in this situation.

This is a great video breaking down what I started to think could be a MASSIVE problem with Infinite. I believe this is a large problem that 343 doesn’t even realize has and continues to alienate players. Many people I know play on PC and they’ve given up for the reasons you outline. I am playing with a controller on my PC for Infinite as it’s always been how I’ve played Halo and I wanted that nostalgia. But I have never felt comfortable in Infinite like I did in most Halo titles. This game never feels “good”..I thought I was going crazy. My aiming and movement muscle memory for past halo titles is still very strong 20 yrs later so when I started playing Infinite I felt like I went from a level 48 to a level 10, instantly 🤣. I understand games have to evolve, but this evolution doesn’t feel “good” at all. I’ve put Infinite down after I completed my battle pass and I have little desire to play knowing how inconsistent and off the aiming can feel at times. It’s weird, I hope they investigate and fix it 😕

Hey, I appreciate the amount of depth you went in to in your video but you might have something wrong. I believe the "aim tracking" that is found in Infinite is present in older Halo games as well. I believe the aim assist characteristics of campaign differ from multiplayer. I just booted up H3 with a second controller on Guardian to test out if there is full on aim tracking when the enemy player is moving. When I induce a slight amount of look stick input the reticle tracks the target fully when he is moving around/jumping. The tracking also looks to have a larger effective range than Infinite. Perhaps it's different in Reach but I have a feeling if you try to replicate what I described in a custom game you will find it tracks in a similar fashion.

great video. this explains everything, and why infinite sucks for us KBM players. specially with aiming. I just started playing PC two years ago, I remember when I playing halo 5. I had aim assist on, and I honestly felt like I wasn't a true gamer because I was letting the game help me aim. I took it off, and man, is it hard playing on controller with no aim assist. But the fact that this game literally tracks for you is so absurd. I get it for campaign, but honestly for online multiplayer, tracking should be taken off in general. all I ask is for 343i to make it easier for us KBM players, or take off tracking for controller, something to make it more balanced because at this rate, halo infinite will be a dead game in no time.

well the solution would be gyro aim for controllers (no need for aim assist) but xbox controllers don't got a gyroscope so unlikely to occur. Now what is gyro aim and why no need for aim assist (granted the no need for aim assist is rather complicated). Gyro aim is the process of using the gyroscope to aim (obviously); you use the orientation of the controller to aim specifically in the pitch and yaw fashion or instead of yaw you can use roll or both. What this means in essence is that you give mouse like aim if not directly however instead of operating in a 2D space (i.e., on a flat surface) you operate in a 3D space (i.e., rotational and not like Wii sports where you fling and swing your arm about). The complication here is it can be affected by minor movements so naturally you set it with a lower sensitivity and use the stick for broad movements (traditional or flick stick). Now how is that complicated, well not all people are the same; some shake more than others so there is an aim assist for that. How it functions is indirectly or in other words there isn't a need for a target to be there let alone it doesn't aim at anything specific; it picks up on random movements and tries to counteract them. The thing is, is that it cannot tell the difference between you aiming at a target or not so any small movements will be interrupted so at a higher skill level you would want this "feature" off. Why does this matter well it's all about making for more natural, more direct means of aim and even the playing field across the board by not nerfing one or buffing the other artificially but rather intuitively and not without player input being interrupted positively or negatively. If you have any questions you can ask (and no dismissal of gyro aim isn't a question)

Infinite’s aim assist makes my aim worst because my reticule will be stuck on a part that I don’t want it to be on and When I move my analog stick more toward the head when using a precision weapon I end up over correcting over and over and over again and I don’t deal with that in any other shooter I play or played

Ok, I know a trick that is key to win with the BR You have to spread the BR shoot as long as you can. The BR shoot 3 bullet and you only need to hit one bullet. (it’s not like Destiny or Cod that you need to put all the bullets in the target) The way you spread the BR form 3 bullets landings in the same spot to 3 spread shoot (…) is by flipping the joystick 🕹 and shoot in a correct order Is not the same to BR like (…) to BR like ( . . .) or like this ( . . . ) Notice how much more margins of error you have if you spread the burst fire. Remember, the 3 bullet don’t have to land on target, only one bullet or two are needed to cause a 100% damage BR is 3 shoot to the body and a final shoot to the head. This final shoot is more difficult because aim assist become more weak.

Aim assist pull/tracking/adhesion/aim bot has been in Halo since CE. It's not at all an Infinite addition. Infinite/recent MCC makes it more obvious with allowing small/zero deadzones, and functionally getting 'always active' aim assist as a result, but every Halo game dramatically moves the reticle with input from either stick. Tracking is almost necessary to couple with reticle slowdown because slowdown alone would make tracking targets a nightmare by killing your sensitivity every time you got close and forcing you to fall behind. Infinite's default center/axial deadzones are the same as Reach's, and the max threshold is the same as Halo CE/2's. Outside of notably lower sensitivity, Infinite's controls are functionally comparable to Reach. 'Skirting responsibility' is a poor way to frame giving these options. Infinite's controls have issues, but these basic options are 15+ years overdue, and defaulting to fat axial deadzones is in huge part in why aim assist exists in the first place. They're actively detrimental to thumbstick accuracy. The shape of the curve itself(the look acceleration is more of a multiplier for it) doesn't seem to be significantly changed in Infinite, but the general sensitivity is lower compared to previous games. Something that illustrates this, is the general sensitivity still increases properly after 5 sensitivity, but it's the maximum accelerated turn speed that caps after 5. I'll need to formally test it, but that cap is most likely carried over from Reach, where anything over ~360 degrees/second is ignored. Roughly doubling the sensitivity values should make it comparable to Reach.
@criticalinfinite49452 жыл бұрын
A couple of notes.... Much of what you say is correct, however adhesion/reticle tracking is new to the right stick. It is possible to experience a limited form of reticle pull by walking towards an enemy moving perpendicular to you in legacy games. This effect is extremely minor, exclusive to the left stick and entirely driven by movement. As for the limits of sensitivity itself capping at 5, I have a video almost out that confirms this. 10 is faster than 5, but they have the same max rotations per second.
@criticalinfinite49452 жыл бұрын
Okay, so I just went into reach and odst firefight with my deadzones disabled. Sure enough, you're right. Ever since mcc launched on pc, I've used a mouse and keyboard and the last time I played halo seriously with a controller was years ago. Though, tracking in infinite is much more aggressive, and friction/bullet magnetism is reduced. Also movement is more jittery than any of the mcc games, which means tracking is more aggressive. Sorry I got this wrong, I'll correct it soon.
@criticalinfinite49452 жыл бұрын
It's very hard to notice over the competent reticle friction/slowness, and the tracking itself is much less significant, but it's there. Because halo infinites movement is so jittery, you feel it more aggressively, and reticle stickiness and bullet magnetism in infinite is still at its bare minimum. So while halo mcc uses a myriad of different aim assist techniques to help you behind the scenes, infinite relies much more heavily on pure reticle tracking/adhesion (aimbot). The balance between the aim assist methods is just different in each game. In mcc, the goal of reticle tracking is just to keep your reticle fixed relative to your target while you take aim. In infinite, because reticle friction area, is reduced to the bare minimum tracking/adhesion serves to follow and manipulate, not stabilize your aim. I'm sorry I got this wrong, thanks to you and another guy named kevin for helping me see the difference. I'll try to make this right, so my viewers get the full picture.
@EternalDahaka2 жыл бұрын
@@criticalinfinite4945 I don't know about the exact strength values between the games, but CE and 2 seem to have significantly more tracking than Infinite, at least compared to your examples. That's most likely because of the larger aim assist 'window' in those though. The small window in Infinite might have been too far. I'm not a fan of the slowdown for making things feel inconsistent, but having it change right around the target is probably worse. Good to know you're covering the sensitivity thing too. I tested a bit to confirm that in Infinite, but not in previous games yet.

What a disaster. I think when mk+b players trash aim assist, they think it's reticule magnetism which of course would lead to situations where the mechanics can counter a player's intention. I may just be a casual, but i think halo should always be more forgiving with hitboxes and friction cause most weapons have long ttk's (even for mk+b). Halo has always been more about map knowledge and positioning over fine motor movement or even having the fastest reflexes. Missing targets by a few pixels at mid/short range never feels good and it gets worse with age. Grenade use is far more critical than having the most reliable four shot cause a well placed grenade forces movement, hits more than one target, and pops shields. In MCC, Mk+b makes cqc and bruteshot jumping way crazier but I still feel something's different for mk+b beyond friction zones. I constantly got mopped by mid range br controllers for several weeks.

The "aim magnetism" you mention does exist though in legacy halo games here kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmauZHaBmZqDnMk . Unless i'm misunderstanding your point. You only show "aim friction" on static targets. When an enemy moves it will drag your reticle in early halo games too. I agree the fact that infinite turns off aim magnetism when you're not using the right stick is bad though, it makes it jarring and inconsistent feeling. The aim acceleration curves are definitely an issue too.

@criticalinfinite49452 жыл бұрын
When changes are made to an engine and that engine is renewed, it is a "new" engine. The official stance is that the engine is modernized "but parts of the original blam engine remain." Halo reach, 3, odst and destiny are all technically running distinct engines. Take infinites audio engine, it's completely new, therefore we use terminology to reflect this. The slipspace engine is derived from the blam engine, but it is still distinct. The proof is in vehicle physics, as they had to be rebuilt from the ground up. This is why they feel different.
@supernice_auto2 жыл бұрын
@@criticalinfinite4945 I don't believe that's accurate. The original plan was to build a complete new engine from the ground up, without reusing any code from the blam engine. They began attempting to do that and then realized it was too large of an undertaking and then went back to modifying the blam engine. Slipspace was effectively scrapped. You can throw a new name on an old engine but the reality is it's not a new engine lol. This is a big part of the reason it took 6 years to deliver this game in the pathetic state that it's in, they wasted a bunch of time and threw away a lot of work and effort.
@criticalinfinite49452 жыл бұрын
Here's an excerpt from halopedia: The Slipspace Engine is a game engine developed by 343 Industries.[1] The engine itself was created for Halo Infinite, allowing developers to have more creative and technical liberties when creating game environments and mechanics. The Slipspace Engine also enables Halo Infinite to evolve as a platform, with new content, mechanics, and stories being added regularly. Around the release of Halo 5: Guardians, the engine was secretly worked on, and took several years to develop. The Slipspace Engine demo unveiled at E3 2018 was the culmination of years of work, and was created to showcase the level of graphical fidelity the engine could achieve.[1] While the engine itself is largely new, remnants of the old Blam engine remain.
