How to convert/remux mkv files to mp4 using OBS

Not all video editing programs support mkv files, but OBS Studio (Open Broadcaster Software) has a built-in way to convert (or, more accurately, “remux”) mkv files to mp4 files. Here’s how to do it:
Open OBS, click File, then Remux Recordings

Awesome video. If you're having trouble with navigating the user interface to reach the same settings as shown in the video then I would recommened looking closely at the side bar. Remember, the options are presented in the "advanced" orientation, not the standard one that shows up by default.

Some people said that other software like VLC can remux files that OBS fails to handle. I can’t vouch for that but it might be worth looking into

Sounds like this may have worked for you in the end? I hope so! I have seen some people have issues with files that aren't made by OBS (but in my use case I never tested such files, because the files I accidentally recorded as mkv were indeed made by OBS.)

This is actually working for me. Straight to the point, great tutorial. Only concern I have for Premiere Pro users, when the video become long (1 hour for example), Premiere my take longer to confirm the file. Not sure if any issue would appear.

I recorded my file in mkv and when I try to remix to mp4 an error shows up telling me the file has been remixed but it is incomplete and then when I go to check it out it's only a minute long and no matter what video I remix it's just the first 5 seconds Very strange Ive tried changing the remux location to my desktop with no luck, any tips?

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a solution to that issue. It could be that the original file didn't record completely and has a problem that will prevent successful remuxing.

i had the same problem and for me the thing was because one of my drives didn't have enough space. So I had changed the location from one drive to the other
