Thank you for helping this Mexican woman how to prepare this kind of squash ! I never saw this particular kind growing up in Mexico.

Yo same here. I’m Salvadorian and today is the first time I eat one. Took me 36 years to finally want to try one.

They are Delicious! My Mom used to make these with butter and brown sugar when I was a kid in the 60’s. Great Memories ✌🏻. Thanks

The one with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon must be delicious. I think my mother-in-law makes it in a pot with piloncillo (unprocessed cane sugar in the shape of a cone) and a little bit of water. That is really yummy too, and I believe she leaves the seeds in, which is delicious.

Yes they are. I am from El Salvador and that the way my mother used to prepare them. I remember Ayote en dulce or Calabasas en dulce.

I would recommend butter, nutmeg, small amount of clove, and honey. Maybe cinnamon.

These look simply delicious! I am hoping to find some at the farmers market this week. I do them in a similar way but I haven't cut them as you do. That is a good idea...thanks again.

Is there any other way to cook this other than baking? I'm not going to bake.

Just out of curiosity, what’s the point of washing the skin nobody eats the skin. They just dig the insides out.

Hard squashes often still have visible dirt on them from the ground they were grown on as they have to remain dry after they are cut from the vine which means they are vulnerable to mold. They have an elevated risk of food borne illness like listeria and E. Coli that transfers to your knife and cutting board.

I always just cut in half. Put in microwave for around 5 mins upside down. Turn cut side up put in butter and light brown sugar and another 3 to 5 mins depending how soft it is and how fast the butter melts as well
