45 minutes? That’s a lot of gas or electricity to cook rice. How about soaking the rice for an hour prior to cooking. Does that help?

Did it work?

@@XXG_ Really? My brown rice comes in a plastic jar and has instructions on its back. It says to soak for half an hour. Its brand name is Daawat and the product is called “easy cook brown rice.” I hated the taste for my test batch. I should cook it again in case i am at fault.

@@Natasha26if I soak it for half an hour do you know how long I should cook it for after?

@@alexischavez3238 See this is also a problem with white rice. There is aged Basmati rice (whitish and yellow in colour) and long grain rice that has been aged in its husk prior to dehusking (this rice looks a bit transparent like plastic). As you can already predict, this is a minefield for “rice soakers” like myself. I usually soak white long grain 11XL aged Basmati for 1h. At 50th minute, i start boiling water in a saucepan and then put the drained rice in to boil for 8min. After 8min (7m30 depending on how elongated rice gets), gas off, i drain all the boiling water, fluff up the rice and let it steam for 10min under a lid, using its own heat. No more gas. Then i mix it up again and let it steam for another 10min. When i change rice, it’s only the boiling time variable which will change. For brown rice, i tried 12 minutes but when i took a sample to eat, it was still chewy. So i went on to 15min. And carried as normal. All i can say is that it is a strange and awful tasting rice. Did you know that there is black rice too?
