I've been cooking for about 65 years (but not in a camp oven until recent years) and I successfully tried your damper in the camp oven because I agree wholeheartely with your method of mixing it, and NOT kneading it! Great success! I was also successful in using just a sprinkle of flour and then hanging the preheated oven with a tripod a certain height over the coals, didn't need as much flour in the bottom of the oven. Your way is the best.

I bake very nice sourdough, in my cast iron camp oven, in my gas oven at home. I have had some failures when camp baking over coals. Today I am following this method of baking, particularly the loose flour in the base of the camp oven.

Where are the herbs and garlic, Ronnie? Just joking mate. It looks fabulous. Smear of Aussie butter and Vegemite while it's still warm and you have fair dinkum Aussie tucker. I look forward to your video on making bush tea in a billy.

lol, well you can try feeding a dirty damper from a fire pit to a gang of cranky shearers or a mustering camp if you want but I think i will stick to doing it my way :)
