English is not my native language, so can anyone correct me if I misunderstood the process ? 1- put the rice in water and touch it with your hands to remove the starch, then remove the water and redo it 2-3 times 2-Put the same volume of water as the volume of rice. 3-put it on high heat and add a bit of salt 4- when the water is boiling on the edges, turn the heat off completely, put the lid on, sealing it with a towel. 5- turn the heat back as low as possible, and cook the rice for 10 minutes 6- turn the heat off, open the lid. 7- Bazinga By the way, you're an amazing cook. You really know the tricks, and how to explain them. I'm gonna try this tomorrow.

@@fixmix9857 Time-wise, it takes much longer with a rice cooker (usually more than 40 minutes). With some rice cooker (like mine) I can set timer beforehand (in the morning) and come home after work to find cooked rice. There are many days when I come home after work and wonder if I should cook, the thought of 40 minutes at the very least often turns me to eating out. I can try to stay more organized and plan ahead, or I can try the method in this video and get rice in 15 minutes. Guess which is easier? :P

My rice turned out totally undercooked but I thinkthe pot I used might have been too small if that's even a thing. I didn't see rice "dancing" at the side of the pot but water was definetely boiling. So I just turned off the heat, covered the pot & left it on the stove with small heat for 10 minutes. After that the result was REALLY undercooked rice so I just kept adding water & it all turned into a disastrous watery rice. Gonna try again with a bit larger pot.

The total cooking time is closer to 15 minutes. Bringing the water to a gentle boiling will take a while and the rice will see another 5 minutes cooking before you cover and start the 10 minutes low heat cooking.

Thanks for the video, I'm planning on making this rice to have with a katsu curry. I've found in the past that using this method you can make virtually any white rice 'sticky'. So I think next time if to 2tbsp vinegar to 1 tsp sugar.

marie Savino Hi Marie, even with brown rich you are going to want a short grain rice that is a more glutinous, regular mid to long grain brown is not great for this.. Let me know how you get on.. Steve

Made sushi for the first time tonight. First time, we cooked it like we cook our white rice - 2 cups of rice, 4 cups of water, boil, and simmer for 20 minutes... The rice turned into a glue-like mush. On our second attempt, we used 2 cups of rice and 2 cups of water, but we used too much heat (I think), "peeked", and (I am pretty sure) used a sausepan that was too large for the amount of rice being cooked. This batch came out edible, but undercooked with a gross crunchy center. I am excited to try these instructions tomorrow. Thank you for posting this tutorial.

It'll work if you follow it exactly.

Same my second try of the day using this method. Currently cooking and I’m hoping it doesn’t come out gluggy. This time I soaked rice for 30minutes.

I've been doing 1 cup rice with 2 cup water and rice always seems fine, will try just 1:1 next time cheers!
@Steve-Owens4 жыл бұрын
No worries but I see no advantage of using twice the water that rice needs to cook, it means your rice can have a greater chance of being clumply. Practice my way, you'll never go back.

I just tried this for the first time and it was so easy and I couldn't believe it when it turned out perfectly cooked and sticky. Just like at Japanese restaurants! For the people saying that it wasn't cooked I'm sure it wasn't sushi rice that they bought. You have to buy short grain rice (sushi rice). Thanks so much! This was the first thing I cooked while following a video that actually turned or good!

"If I were using this for sushi I would add sugar and vinegar"- which is not shown.... yet this is supposed to be sushi rice.

a lot of westerners refer to Japanese rice as sushi rice it even comes in a bag that says sushi rice even tho its the same as Japanese rice.
@englishatheart4 жыл бұрын
@@2Edgy4ThisPlanet Because it is the rice used to make sushi, a.k.a. vinegared rice. If it was prepared rice, it would just be sushi. Just as ramen is noodles AND soup, but ramen noodles is just the noodles.

I watched this video about a year ago, and it's how I've been cooking (all) rice ever since. Where I'm from, most houses have an electric rice cooker, so people are impressed when I say I cook my rice on the stovetop. As I don't have a very bottom-heavy pan, sometimes it will burn a little on the bottom... but just adjust the heat and time up or down, depending on the amount of rice you're making, and this is the best, easiest, and most reliable way to make rice!
