The rice has a better consistency and is less sticky. There is also a faster way. Use jasmine rice, wash your rice, put it in boiling water for ~3minutes, pour off the water and put the rice in the steamer, steam it for ~10minutes and you are done.

If you want perfect rice, get an electric pressure cooker. You will have perfect white rice in 10 mins and brown rice in 15 minutes.

You probably cover rice with something that reject steam. The uploader is covering with a thin cloth that allow steam to heat rice easy. Or your steamer is leaking

This is a misleading video on steaming rice. The method is called "mov vum cub" You soak the rice over night (or you could pour hot water on the rice and let it soak for 20 mins) then you pour the water and rinse the rice and place it on the steamer for 15 mins, then place the rice on a bowl add hot boiling water about 1 inch above the rice, let it soak for 10 mins, then place it back to the steamer for 8 or 10 minutes and it's done.
