Hi Guys,
So, my cousin Kelly CLEARLY gets neglected by me, in the nail department that is! So in today's video I am rectifying that little issue. She has a few nails that, when they grow, they fan out a little. It's a problem that a lot of people face, and honestly, it's not the worst problem ever and I'm going to show you just how easy it is to fix!
It's so easy to do AND you won't even be able to tell that it's got any acrylic on, it will look so natural it will deceive even the most Eagle-eyed of you out there!
If you have any other issues similar to this that you think I can help you with make sure to leave a comment below and if we get enough people asking the same question, we'll do a video!
Love,
Kirsty xxxx

Naio Nails mhm maybe i have something u can help with. I do my nails for a year know but there is always one thing that bothers me. The c-curve of my thump and index finger isn't very strong but these of my other fingers are different. They have a really strong c-curve and when i do an almond shaped nail or a stiletto thats not really really long the side walls just Look like... I dont know how i can call it... Imagine a cake or something and u part it in three the corner in the middle. I dont get the tipp of the nail low enough that i can keep the side walls straight. I hope u can understand what i mean ^^` and maybe give me some advice how i can fix this Probleme

When I first started growing out my nails, they would fan out to the point where my c-curve would be flat...I fixed this by always wearing a coat of nail polish and moisturizing my cuticles and under-nail with oil. I noticed that if I didn’t wear nail polish, my nails would feel super flat and would start to fan out again, so I always kept a coat or two no matter what. Now they grow out nice and straight with a defined c-curve!! Don’t give up, there is hope! 💅🏼

I think it's because of soaking in water too long that they fan out. Like baths, long showers and washing dishes without gloves. But nail polish stops to much water from getting in and is a hardened layer itself

@@curateddaisies4128 It's a natural nail shape. A very weak one. I don't take long showers or baths, hands don't see much water outside of washing them a few times a day and they are VERY fan shaped. That being said, water definitely does NOT help the issue in the least!

So THIS is why my acrylic tips always looked odd. Some of my nails are fanned and the tech either files the sides down so my natural nails are inward under the tips or they dont do it at all and my nails look so wide. NYC nail salons for ya. Need to learn to do this myself LOL

Kirsty! You have explained my entire nail life in this video! My nails always crack or wear at the sidewall and now I know why. I've been trying to correct by taking away instead of pinching. Unfortunately I've switched to dip systems and I don't think they can be pinched really. Maybe since it doesn't seem to set up immediately even after the cure step.

Thank you so much for this. I've gotten acrylics for over 10 years, but I'm rarely happy with the c-curve that I am left with. I also have a couple of nails that fan, and they're the biggest culprits. I have never once seen 'pinching' done at the local salons, so I didn't even know how to explain to the nail tech what I wanted (there are serious language barriers). The shape of the finished nails are wide & flat, making my fingers look wide and stumpy. Not cute on anyone. Now I know the terminology to use that will hopefully communicate what I want to the tech. Better & higher arch, and a tighter c-curve by pinching. THANK YOU!

I love your work. I keep natural nails. I normally have a natural tight C curve. But I shut my middle finger in my truck door one day a couple years ago and ever since that nail grows fanned out a little. I went to file it to make it look like it used to, 3 days later its snapped. So I learned the hard way, not to file it out.

My nails are super fanned and flat, and the ones that do curve have a more severe c curve, looks more like a v than a c, then have an angle to them and fan out rather than coming out straight. Is that fixable? Fanned nails that appear to tilt? Assuming that if i fixed the fanning it would mostly solve the problem...

Will this train the nail over time? I got a really bad hangnail on my left middle finger in grade school, and it got infected. It took so long to heal that the nail ended up growing in wider now on one side. So it makes it look crooked and wide when I get my nails done. Would doing this eventually train the nail, or will I still have to pinch?

I recently have got acrylic nails, for the first time, hoping it would strengthen and shape my nails. She did a beautiful job with the gel polish and design. Although, she didn’t do anything to help with my very flat and fanned nails. I asked for almond shape (because I thought it would additionally help with the appearance of the nail shape). She filed the side of my nails to give them more of a rectangle appearance and them applied the product. Then she finished by shaping them with a file and adding the coloured gel polish of top. I find the nails now look a wider and the fan shape more noticeable. And when I feel the under side of the acrylic it barely has any curve.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to find a good nail tech for stuff like this? Will any nail salon I drop into be able to do this for me and do a good job? Or should I be more mindful? I get like 3 manicures a year so I’m clueless on this. 😬

Can you use the pinching tool with a few layers of polish instead of acrylics? Thank you. 😊

Does this permanently fix the nail? Or do you constantly have to apply acrylic?

Hi, I do have similar problem, my nails are really fanned and also I have a really short and flat nail bed. Actually I tried to fix it by filing but if I'm not careful I get more like a diamond shape because my nails are narrower at the cuticle. Could you please give me some advise how to sculpt them properly so they don't look bulky and wide fanned?

Is there a way to correct it without acrylic?

Tessa M Ferard Gel! The natural nail won’t pinch on its own and hold it.

Funny that's what I thought she was going to do when the video started. Never heard of pinching before!

I think you can do this with nail glue and tweezers

Honestly, my nails fan a bit. If I wear just regular polish all the time they keep dehydrated and actually look pinched

Whoops I always file my sidewalls 😅 Kirsty any advice to people who have nearly no nailbed? My nails always seem so short (even when the free edge is very long)

Noe Dactyl Same! I have short nail beds AND fanned nails- plus my natural nails are thin and bendy. I guess I won the genetic nail lottery. :(

Same here, fanned nails plus tiny nail beds means my hands always look childish and weird, plus they're always weak because until I saw this video I always filed my walls as well!

Fanned nails & soft. Using jojoba oil with a bit of pure vit e oil on nails (underneath too) plus always wear nail polish, even just one coat. I file my sidewalls & they’re not weaker

Glad to know this. I use oil, always wear polish, and just recently started to gently file my sidewalls on a couple of fingers where they were sort of lightly fanning out. They have stayed really strong so far.

Does this help long term or just while the acrylic is on the nail?

Is the pinching something you have to ask for specifically? I have this problem too, and whenever I've had acrylics done, I've always kept them short, but always thought they looked too wide, but I've never had anyone offer pinching. Is it uncomfortable?
