If Ryan has the time - I know he's got a busy work-life - I think he would be fantastic as a teacher online. His signing is so clear and, of course, he's a charming chap to watch. I know there a number of ASL teaching programmes on you-tube, but they don't have the very lovely accompaniment of you two as Sign Duo.

I work at a tee shirt store and recently had a large group of teens come in who were all deaf. i used to practice a bit of sign language back in HS. So i was hesitant to communicate but they took note and we communicated through their cell phone note app. when it came time to ring them up i signed the total, pretty confidently and it worked well. Now I want to get back into learning again to have a full conversation without hesitation.

No the captions are needed, it confirms where he's at to follow, better for learning as it associates seeing the words together with the translation, without it you'd still be guessing at all the inbetween words too

Thank you so much 😊 I came across your channel recently and I love it. You two are a beautiful couple. I'd been self studying ASL because as a cashier I've come across many people who sign, but I could only resort to pen and paper to communicate. And I hadn't been progressing too much by myself. Your channel is easy to understand, informative, and interesting to watch. Thank you! I learned how to count in three minutes!!! 😄

I have been so confused on the numbers and your video was the first that went slow enough for me to finally understand, thank you! And for anyone struggling past 5, I just finally realized it's not the position of the fingers left up that matters, but which finger you touch to your thumb. That epiphany finally resolved my confusion.

I wish we had a channel like yours here in Italy. I can hear but I want to learn sign so bad and the only videos I find are from 10/8 years ago. I know that every country has its own sign language so I can't really learn something from your channel but this is so good and inclusive. I wish we had a channel like yours. It would be awesome to have someone who can teach some basics to the people out here. Very very proud of you guys btw, you're amazing!

Someone once gave me a hack to remember which way 6,7,8,9 went. Smallest finger for smallest number. So 6 is pinky, 7 ring, 8 middle, 9 pointer. It really helped. (I used to always have trouble whether to start with index or pinky)

@supimLex2 жыл бұрын
Somethong Ryan said in other videos is that it really just depends on the culture your in. There are a lot of different ways to sign things and the more ways you know the better! If your with a deaf friend just ask them what they do for that sign and try using that, but if your like me and don't know anyone who is deaf just try finding some one who knows sign language really well and see what they think. I know you made this comment a year ago but I noticed it and want to help!

When you signed two hundred and fifty seven how come you didn’t do two “hundred” and than fifty seven. It looks like you signed 2 5 7.
@HeliusSlayer4 жыл бұрын
I'm hearing, but I'm guessing you can sign it shorter it's because it's implied that it is two hundred and fifty seven. If you signed 2 5 7 and then no numbers behind it, then one would probably assume it's two hundred and fifty seven. I guessing you can sign it either way but because it's a smaller number, it's shorter just to sign 2 5 7. Similar to if you were to buy something from a store that was 5 dollars and 32 cents, hearing people (and I assume deaf people), could just say it cost you 5 32 without saying/signing the dollars or cents because one would assume that it's 5 dollars and 32 cents. I would imagine for much larger numbers you would want to use the number placements such as thousand, million, or billion.
@MrBluecrusher2254 жыл бұрын
@@HeliusSlayer my guess is that it would be 5 32 without dollars and cents. Because taking “how are you” as example, are gets omitted and it’s just how and you in asl.

I actually thought the most interesting part of this video was how you do your double-L's. I see a lot of people flash double letters. Like they move their hand back toward them and then at the person they're speaking to again really quickly, so I thought the hand-slide to the right for the second one was really interesting! Just another example of how different everyone signs!

I cannot do the three (3) I've always used my pointer, middle and ring fingers to represent 3. My thumb holds down my pinky. Using the thumb as part of 3, doesn't compute with my brain. 😬 Just like stick shift vs. automatic vehicles. I cannot drive stick, it just doesn't work for me. Between my foot and the gear shift hand, it doesn't work. Yes I've tried 🤣😂. It's like my brain says NO.

I have a question tho: if I have 2.500.257 or whatever the example was, shouldn't I sign the last part as "2-hundred-5-7"? I'm asking because in the video it was signed as "2-5-7", so I'm a bit confused. 😅
@RobinHood704 жыл бұрын
I'm wondering if it's like English that way where, properly, you should say two-hundred (and) fifty-seven, but if you just say two-fifty-seven, people will know what you mean.

NIce video but I fail to see any sort of "hack". I think a more useful and nice follow up video on numbers would be those that have different special signs like double digits (22,33 etc, special signs like 21, 23, 25 which is more like a "hack")
@SignDuoChannel5 жыл бұрын
The hack is that even a person that does not know sign can sign up to 999 billion with only knowing 1-10 and hundred, thousand, million, billion signs! 14 signs! :) Maybe in the future we will make that video but gotta keep in mind that might be too complex to teach to people that do not have a foundation of sign language. -Ryan
